Please let me introduce myself.
I played magic for years.
Unfortunately my friends decided to take a break with magic so i followed them. (Don't know why...maybe it was not that fun to move to tourneys alone)
However, we started to play again this time with Standard (First was Legacy) and i decided to play this deck. I mean, i played Dredge before if you know what i mean regarding my decktypes
I just read the comments and took a closer look at the lists and the results:
Why is nobody talking about the first place with Grixis Colossus in Roanoke at SCG Invitational?
Redirus91 already posted the article from DeBrannon and i think to go Grixis is a good way.
I playtested this version a lot and i have to say: My friends don't wanna play with me anymore. Its like i win 80% of games.
In my location I play against Temur Energy, U/R Control, Zombies etc..all the top decks.
Those specific cards are rather difficult to fully replace, but we do have some decent ones to work with.
- Swirling Suns for Kozilek's Return
- Possibly alter the formula to work with Panharmonicon, like with Servo Schematic and Maverick Thopterist. Prism and Puzzlebox already likes it.
- Scrap Trawler for Matter Reshaper
- One of the Tezzeret cards in place of On Nix
- Saheeli Rai is still a card despite losing her best friend
- More inventor's Fair for Sanctum

I've updated my Colossus deck with HOU, and it's at the best it's ever been. The addition of Mirage Mirror has closed the hole that the deck has against faster decks, and counter-control with direct removal. Testing on paper and online, the mirror has never been countered, and only destroyed once, saving itself by turning to a land. It enables a turn 5 attack with a copy Colossus. The instant speed allows for blockers with a tapped out board. It's just great, and will probably turn from 3 to 4 in main. Since HOU, only loses have been to mill (it's real and rough to deal with) and an Oketra Monument deck. My list is less conventional to the usual deck, built more to stay past rotation, but still same principles.
Overall, the deck is good with the right pilot, could use changes but it's still a new standard. Fun to play, and no one has expected the Tezzeret or demon.

I like control decks and have a bad habit of making anything into one, even if it's aggro or combo. Don't know why or how.

I don't like it, but tell me something better. Hedron Archive is difficult to replace
Oh you're talking about after rotation? I thought you were talking about right now. I wouldn't even worry about after rotation until the next set becomes known otherwise it's just waste of thought in my opinion
Preparing for Rotation isn't bad. Getting ready for it, and modifying your deck in current so it doesn't die at the time of rotation, lets you know how it'll work once X cards are gone, no matter what comes from the new set. Then once Ixilon come out, new cards will make the deck better.

Though it's not 100% effective, Padeem, Consul of Innovation and Battle at the Bridge help to slow aggressive decks down, only requires less early artifacts played. Baiting removal is helpful as well, as most red decks will run out of fuel quickly.

I haven't had a chance to test against the pro tour RDW list, but it looks like this player in a small Japanese tournament tech'd his list against aggro by filling out the playset of Battle at the Bridge and adding Fireforger's Puzzleknot for more early interaction. I'm planning on taking this to game day this weekend and I'm sure there will be plenty of budget red lists there.
I tried both those cards and the problem is it doesnt do anything by itself. IF the format was slower, maybe but this deck as a hard enough time with red and zombies as it is.
I can understand Fling being bad, but I thought the Manticore seemed pretty legit. Worst case, you crew a Caravan in response to its trigger and basically Shrapnel Blast something. Besides, a 4/3 for 4 with flashback is already not the worst deal ever. I'll probably rebuild this deck and try playing 1.
Also, I'm really intrigued by the 1-of Tezzeret the Schemer in the sideboard. When do you side that in? I'm a big fan of that card, so I'm really just looking for an excuse to play it mainboard.

you can read in later threads that I tried 1 Manticore and unfortunately I rarely drew it and the times I did it didnt have anything to eat, in fact I real disappointed to learn that it cant fling itself.
To get a better feel for it try 2.
VS. Control
-4 Push, +4 Tyrant (+1 Mtn, +3 Saheeli until I get Tyrants)
-3 Bridge, +3 negate
-2 Fumigate, +2 Crook or Mirage mirror, dont know which will be better
-1 Flagship, +1 Herald
Unfortunately, there aren't really any new artifacts we can use in Ixalan, and losing Hedron Archive is kind of a big deal. The good news, though, is that most other decks are losing a lot more. The only artifact that I think is worth consideration is Conqueror's Galleon, but I doubt it's preferable over Skysovereign.
Search for Azcanta might be the best card Ixalan has to offer for this deck. Worst case, it's a scry 1 per turn, which is fine. But since we're pretty creature-light (I mean, the card the deck's built around is a creature, but you know), the flip side seems pretty powerful. It even sort of cheats at finding creatures by being able to find vehicles.
I notice you're running Manalith, which says pretty strongly that we're low on playables. I'd definitely run Mirage Mirror in its place, though. Unclaimed Territory also seems questionable, how about just Fetid Pools?

OH GOD, losing Archive and Sanctum of Ugin was HUGE!
I thought about the Galleon but then you are back to "what do you take out?" Maybe against control but right now my threats against control are 12, 4 colossus, 4 Heralds and 4 Carnage Tyrant
I REALLY like the idea of 1-2 Mirage Mirror! I think that if one were to play those it would be in a version that is more focused on getting Colossus into play so that you can copy and swing.
Unclaimed Territory is not a big deal at all! There are SO many sources of color in this deck, using one for Bird, another for Demon and another for Dinosaur is fine. I did some limited testing last night and never had an issue with it.
The other cards you listed I dont think make the cut, the requirement for artifacts is so high, dont think the pay of is worth it.
Tezzeret seems better in a improvise heavy shell
I also thought about Saheeli, digging for Colossus and copying. Incremental damage and diverting damage from aggro decks.
I have also thought about Visage of bolas and Nicol Bolas, the Deceiver as a finisher

Other Ixalan cards that we might consider:
Arguel's Blood Fast (Sac colossus for 10 life)
Vraska's Contempt
Walk the Plank
Deadeye Quartermaster
Treasure Map
Vance's Blasting Cannons
Makeshift Munitions (good with Tezzeret the Schemer?)
Also, is Sunset Pyramid any good?
