if you play eldrazi displacer you should replace wasteland strangler with vengeful rebel.
its a match made in heaven, but too bad the hyper aggro meta ruin this synergy.
on gifted aetherborn, BB is a tad bit ambitious considering you run 3 color (BWC), this dude only great if you can cast it on turn 2 and can be easily outclassed by opponent.
i think you missed out on ruins of oran-rief benefit. recurring 5/4 scrapheap scrounger is just pain in the ass.
It's supposed to be 2x Kalitas, but I only got one. That's why the sideboard is incomplete.
You guys got any suggestion?
Definitely mainboard Kalitas, especially if you're struggling against zombies. Also put Reality Smasher in the sideboard; as discussed above, it's pretty much a dead card against aggro, and given how fast this meta is, it's likely going to be a dead card on gane 1.
If you're playing mono black then definitely run Gifted Aetherborn; this card is a pain to deal with for aggro decks. Also cut Mindbender entirely; given how fast this format is, you're rarely ever going to get a double hit.
I recently played in a standard tourney and went 4-0 with my BW Eldrazi deck posted above. There I also played against someone else with mono black Eldrazi. I think mono black is faster with better instant speed removals and being able to run Gifted Aetherborn. We played against the same decks and I think he was able to win faster than I was. In the last round, I beat him because i had more answers available.
the problem with metallic mimic is it has 1 toughness, in a meta infested with walking ballista it is not a good thing. reality smasher sometimes is not good enough even if it came down on turn 4, if it come down on turn 4 the plethora of cheap deathtouch creature will render it useless. it is a different story with skysovereign, consul flagship, if it came down on turn 4 it will wreak havoc on the enemy's board. it think it deserves a honorary eldrazi title along with scrapheap scrounger
moving forward i think the best shell for eldrazi is still black, splashing another color for artifact removal and utility.
i am experimenting on mono red eldrazi featuring eldrazi obligator and burn spells. threaten effect are rare in standard. and particularly devastating on G/B deck.
Seconded. I no longer play Smasher main board because the 5 mana cost is too high and pretty much a dead card against aggro decks.
Ive been doing BW the last two weeks. I like this combination of colors because I think it provides us the most amount of answers.
When things go as they should this deck performs great. Early game removal then take over the board. But so far I've lost about half my games due to either not drawing lands or removals; statistically, both should be unlikely because I'm running 24 lands and 11 removals. If anyone can spot why it's happening or think I'm wrong please let me know because I'd very much welcome your opinion. Otherwise, I'd assume it's just chance.
Other cards I've considered:
Eldrazi Displacer: everyone I've met say this + Thought-knot Seer is great but I don't see it (pun intended). The opponent would draw a card before you snag one so their net loss is 0. Of course it'd be great with Panharmonicon but I'm not running that.
Eternal Scourge: I like that this creature can interact well with Scrounger and eats up removal so that you'll pretty much always have a 3/3 available lying around, but the fact that you have to spend 3 to cast it each time was very inconvenient. Also it can be rid of easily with Walking Ballista.
Gifted Aetherborn: I REALLY want to play this but I think the double black cost would be too constraining for me. If I do, I'd probably switch to just WB midrange and dropping the Eldrazi altogether.
Archangel Avacyn: she is good but I didn't think she added much value other than just being a good card in itself. For 5 mana, I think Skysovereign is a better choice.
Immolating Glare: I think Blessed Alliance is overall better.
Authority of the Consuls: This is effectively Thalia in Enchantment form. I am tempted by the life gain yet I don't think that makes it worth running.
Please let me know if you think differently.
Update: I've gone 4-0 the last two FNMs with this deck. Played against mostly Concstrictor and 4-Color Saheeli.
Overall the black cards are doing most of the heavy lifting, but the white cards have also been extremely beneficial in getting me out of spotty situations, like Fumigate which helped when I was utterly outnumbered and Thalia which significantly slowed down Vehicle decks.
Has anyone played with mono U? I am building a standard deck after having not played since Shadows over Innistrad was released. I have an opportunity to play next week, so wanted to build a deck on a budget. I tested it out on wednesday at my flgs and my only loss was to a mate wgo was on BG Snek (that he used to top 4 the rptq the weekend before)
He said that there is nothing like it in the meta, so he had no sideboard cards that he wanted to bring in.
Here is my list;
// Deck: Standard (60)
// Lands
10 Island
4 Nephalia Academy
1 Ruins of Oran-Rief
3 Sea Gate Wreckage
4 Warped Landscape
2 Wastes
Ruination Guide has over performed - T2 Mimic, turn 3 Ruination Guide swing for 4. Turn 4 Ruination Guide swing for 9. They also make skyspawner a clock if the ground gets locked up
Despite the last couple weekend events being comprised of mostly Mardu Vehicles and 4c CopyCat, a few Eldrazi decks have surfaced and actually done quite well. The most recent one was BG at SCG Classic Indianapolis:
Looks pretty good and well equipped, even though some of the card choices here are questionable if not outright ridiculous. Still 4th place isn't bad out of at least 16 lists posted on the SCG website.
Overall, it looks like Black is probably still the best shell for Eldrazis, as instant-speed removals are a necessity against Mardu Vehicles and CopyCat. Another shell I'd like to try is Blue-White based around Panharmonicon, double-triggering Thought-Knot Seer, Eldrazi Skyspawner, and Drowner of Hope. Though with Reflector Mage gone, it might not be very competitive. Still it sounds like it'd be cool.
I haven't posted in a long time but I had a question for you guys that have been playing Eldrazi Aggro. I have a version of the R/B eldrazi build ready to go. Mine does not play the Glint Sleeve's rather still plays the Matter Reshapers. I was wondering what matchups do I bring in the Olivia, Mobilized for War against. I appreciate any advice you can give me. I am bad at magic lol but worse at sideboarding.
That B/R build looks pretty bad. 4x Reality Smasher in the mainboard? I love Smasher too; it was the reason I wanted to play Eldrazis to begin with, but a 5-mana beatstick is not efficient in the fast and creature-heavy format we're in right now. Also, There's so many cards that it should be playing (Or at least in MB and not SB) but isn't. It really makes me wonder what the deck's pilot had in mind.
I managed to go 3-1 with B/R my first night trying it out. I beat Mardu Ballista, Tower and a bad Grixis deck. My one loss was to Mardu Ballista but in all fairness I mulled G1 and in G2 I mulled and never found a red source. Small sample size I know but your buddy Smasher was pretty solid. I need to work on the board more now that Avacyn has creeped her way back into standard. I did get blown out by her once.
Did you play that exact version? And how many games did you win because of Reality Smasher?
Also it may be a preference thing, but I really don't like having any Smashers let alone 4 in my MB. That would mean I get blown out by aggro decks on Game 1. Against your match-ups, which all mostly control and midrange decks, it would fare. But I know from experience that Smasher is a liability against more aggro decks like Mardu Vehicles or Humans.
i played 2 b/g decks, 1 mardu vehicles without ballista and 2 copy cat decks. the one copy cat was interested it played aetherworks marvel to try and get felidar out quicker. so what i may practice with is maybe adding 2 release the gremlins to main deck
Another B/R list was played at the IQ on March 25th and took 7th place. I originally liked listed this list because of Weldfast Engineer which goes so well with Heart of Kiran
But after 10+ matches in playtesting, it turns out this list is garbage. I lost each of those games and mana consistency was a recurring issue every game, followed by opening hands with nothing cast until turn 3.
The mana base is awful due to the need to run Foreboding Ruins and fixing for colorless. The reason the shadowlands are inferior is that their untapped condition requires you to hold another land in hand, and that chance is very slim here because of the need to fix B/R and colorless, so you're rarely ever also holding a Mountain/Swamp when playing a Foreboding Ruins. And running 4 Reality Smasher is just an automatic forfeit in a meta with so many Mardu Vehicle decks running amok. I get that this deck's pilot is likely an above-average skilled player, but skills can't overcome fundamentals of deck building, unless of course he cheated.
4-0 at FNM with this list. 2 Wins against W/B Zombies, 1 against G/W Tokens, and 1 against some jank. I tuned my deck knowing that both control and zombies were popular, hence the main deck Kalitas and Ob Nix. I was running 24 lands with 13 colorless (+1 Sea Gate) and 11 Swamps, but I decided to go up to 25 lands with extra black for consistency on some of the 1BB spells. Worked out fine. I got flooded once or twice, but Ruins of Oran Rief lets you pump your dudes when you don't need mana, and ballista is a nice mana sink.
Modern: R Skred -- WBG Melira Co -- URW Nahiri Control
Legacy: R Mono Red Burn -- UWB Stoneblade
Commander: R Krenko, Mob Boss -- WUBRG Scion of the Ur-Dragon -- WUBRG Maze’s End
Other: R No Rares Red (Standard) -- URC Izzet Tron (Pauper)
RNA Standard: Grixis Midrange, Jund Deathwhirler, Sultai Vannifar
GRN Standard: Red Midrange, Mono-Blue Tempo, Wr Aggro, Gruul Experimental Dinosaurs, Sultai Midrange, Jeskai Midrange
Modern: Bant Spirits
Forcing a single archetype in all formats: too many colors, bad mana.
its a match made in heaven, but too bad the hyper aggro meta ruin this synergy.

It's a mono-black eldrazi.
It's quite all right dealing with mardu vehicles or the control/saheeli decks but I'm having problem with the prized amalgam deck.

I like Ruins but I don't think saving a land all the time to potentially pump a creature is all that worth it.
The deck still struggles against aggressive decks so I may end up going mono black to be able to run Gifted Aetherborn.
