I'm new to this TCG and I'm looking for some pro tips on what I can do to improve the basic white starter deck (the one with 30 cards and has Gideon Jura in the front of the box). So can anyone help out a noob here?
Welcome to this great game and MTGSalvation! I can't find a listing of what is in that deck in a quick googling. Any suggestions would be based on your budget and competitive expectations. If you want to play with friends and a similar card pool, then you should be fine.
The basics of upgrading or creating a deck are covered pretty well here. Reid Duke also did a fantastic series on the mothership (magic.wizards.com) about general play under the title "Level One," IIRC.
If you want to be able to go to a local store and not get totally smashed at FNM (or whatever day they have it), I would recommend you pick up one of the brews in the budget section. This is one that I picked semi-randomly for you. You can get a feel for the game with a real deck.
If you are friendly and ask questions without pretending that you are knowledgeable, your opponents may be willing to help with advice or even cheap cards after your match. Often there are piles of commons and uncommons abandoned after a draft that can be mined.
Edit: You can also post the contents of your starter deck in the budget section and solicit suggestions. Even if your budget is not particularly constrained, it makes some sense to start out with a minimal investment until you get a feel for what's going on and how you want to participate.
