I'm almost brand new to the game, and ever since I've starting playing draft, I've always been wanting to create a deck
(Standard) that uses artifact creatures as its primary means of combat.
So I went ahead and searched through all the standard blocks' cards that had 'colorless' in their description, then looked for decent lands,
and managed to make a deck that looks synergistic... although I'm not totally sure if it'll cut it even for casual play.
Sadly, there are very few decent artifact creatures and no 4/5 color bombs (should work well in artifacts seeing as you can just play a ton of painlands/vestiges/fetch taplands/along with a rainbow lineup of basics, and have artifacts to survive the early game, so that you can presumably summon really borked multicolor stuff lategame), and this means I'm not even sure if this deck is good enough for casual standard play.
Please give me all suggestions (or just flat out say that this deck is garbage) so that I can decide whether this is worth getting or not.
First, you should definitely read the stickied post about how to format your lists, so people can easily digest them.
Second, I don't see why it wouldn't work at a FNM. You've got a lot of creatures that come into play very easily. You've got an anthem which is helpful. I feel like the deck is light on disruption to get your creatures through. You definitely need something that can clear the way, or have some reach to make sure you can finish off your opponents.
This only somewhat addresses the problem, and I think you'll need to add more to make the deck effective, but I'd recommend Pia and Kiran Nalaar. You have plenty of artifacts to feed to the ability. I'd also try to find some more room for some more removal. Exquisite Firecraft is a good option. Incendiary Flow would also be good.
Thanks for telling me about the better format ;).
As for the removal, yeah, it's definitely lacking, despite Reclusive Artificer being pretty much guaranteed to kill things when it hits the board, and Blighted Gorge helping in the lategame... 5 cards probably won't be enough!
Sadly, as great as Pia and Kiran Nalaar is, it'll screw up my manabase (2 red), and is probably a little too slow for what I consider to be an aggro deck.
Firecraft falls in the same category.
Incendiary Flow, however, I could see being quite good due to it giving me a slightly better mathcup against decks that play a lot of floaters, and the fact that it isn't a creature is compensated for the fact that it can be used as a finisher to burn your opponent!
I guess I could also play a fourth Reclusive Artificer.
But... does that mean I'll have to cut some draw power?
And more importantly, do I need it (the draw power)?
For now I'll go:
+1 Reclusive Artificer
-1 Artificer's Epiphany
(eventually will add incendiary, but don't know what to cut... I need to play as many artifact creatures as possible.).
I'm not sure how deep you as a new player want to go into this theme because 90% of the cards good for artifact strategies will leave Standard come October. Also, depending on your artifacts, you may have a problem dealing with two very popular cards:Kozilek's Return and Liliana, the Last Hope.
Anyway, here are the cards I would consider, besides the ones you have:
Forgot about Hangarback/Vile Aggregate, they're actually both quite good and can replace my worst cards quite effectively.
The rest, however, just don't fit in aggro, despite how generally strong they are.
Thanks for the tips!
But... yeah, rotation will kill this deck, unless the new block has a bunch of playable artifacts.
I might still get it just for *****s and giggles if it isn't too expensive.
KR/Liliana don't really hurt this deck that much due to all my 3+ drops having 3 or more DEF, and this being a swarm deck (making one guy go -2/-1 isn't the end of the world).
Also, I'm trying to win the game before Liliana's tokens overwhelm me (turn 7-8 ish).
Amusingly enough, the deck also now has ZERO actual removal (besides land abilities which I almost never resolve!), although the good flyer access/ swarm ability should help deal with the problem.
