The best reason I can give to play this deck is that it is just a blast to play. If you like attacking the meta at a different angle I highly recommend this deck. The deck has a distinct "combo" feel to it since a lot of the games you will will be from just tapping 8 clues a turn to deal 4 damage to the face every turn. Another boon for the deck is that it is extremely cheap to build and the cards are mostly uncommon and commons.
The deck is a nice mix between aggro and combo as it can both just attack the air for 20 damage or it can tap a bunch of clues to kill all their creatures and then your opponent themselves. The deck wants to play a lot of evasive creatures so that you can produce as many clues as you can from Ongoing Investigation to fuel your kill with Ghirapur Æther Grid. To make the deck I diverse threat I thought it would be a good idea to include a spirit subtheme that can help with the beatdown plan as well us give us a good reason to play Essence Flux which doubles as a ETB rein-abler when it's not saving our creatures and growing our spirits.
Sky- you are missing a huge ability on ongoing investigation by not splashing green to use the activated ability, it has been key in a lot of my games against control as a clue source post wrath.
Yes as it's true that you miss out on a pretty large part of Ongoing Investigation when you don't have green in your deck, I simply don't feel comfortable splashing a 4th color in the jeskai list. I think both takes on the deck have slightly different strengths and weaknesses. With white I am really impressed by Reflector Mage and Declaration in Stone.
As far as testing goes I have done almost none, but I plan to get the remaining uncommon's I need this weekend and sleeve it up for some old fashion testing.
Loving how this deck looks so far. Excited to give it a whirl.
In the Jeskai build, I feel like you have to have Eldrazi Displacer in there. Everything has come into play effects, so much value. Rattlechains in my bae, but initially looks like one of the weaker cards in the list

If you always do what you always did, then you'll always get what you always got.
the displacer was a consideration but I cant take any of the 2 drops out for him so I would need to cut some of the 3-4 drops to make room, and they are the reason we want to run him in the first place. I was considering toning down the spirit theme and instead focusing on more midrange tactics, but I am just worried ongoing investigation will become much worse with that plan.
I'm loving the Temur version of the deck so far, although it feels a bit weak to eldrazi ramp strategies, since world breaker and ulamog can exile our enchantments. Any ideas on some good sideboard options for those types of opponents?
I'm running the Temur list from the first post with 2 rattlechains instead of 2 hangarbacks, though I'm not sure whether hangarback would be better or not.
Can it ask how ongoing investigation and Erdwal iluminator interact in multiples? I know that each Erdwal stacks but what about ongoing and Erdwal? If I have 3 ongoing investigations in play and 1 Erdwal, do I investigate twice for each ongoing or just the first one? Eg. When I swing and connect for 1 damage, do I investigate 4 or 6 times?
This is what I intend to jam with tomorrow. Bear in mind I haven't played Standard since Khans, so i'm a bit rusty. I figure main deck Radiant Flames will cook some Humans.
Damn I actually really like the look of the list. I am starting to think the deck is better suited as a U/R controlish deck with a "combo" kill in the form of the Grid.

I think Erdwal triggers only when the first ongoing resolves, so 4 clues in total
R1: 2-1 Esper control
R2: 2-1 GW Midrange
R3: 0-2 WG Human (1- 2 land y no 3r land drop; 2- mulligan 5 gg )
R4: 2-1 Jund Midrange
R5: 0-2 Jund Midrange (no draw red land D: ) loss the win an in :c
Has anyone tried building a clue deck looking at it from a mill standpoint? A friend is playing a b/g version that uses the new blue enchantment that mills 3 any time you sac a clue. Combo that with Tutelage and red card draw and maybe there is a competitive deck in there. I'll admit my friend's list is casual right now, but I'll try to get it from him to share if anyone is interested in that approach.
