while he used his W/u aggro (curving into Archangel of Tithes and Dragonlord Ojutai)
out of 5 games, i won only once.
the deck just runs out of gas quickly. in the games i lost, i had him at 1 to 3 life, but the burn spells just didn't make it on time. he produced too many creatures just traded with or shrugged off mine.
with the ground clogged up (W/x aggro and Bant Coco will surely become FNM favorites), perhaps it's time to take to the skies and go bigger.
we have Pia and Kiran Nalaar, Thunderbreak Regent, Avaricious Dragon and Goldnight Castigator as our options. the dragons will enable Draconic Roar, which will improve our reach. we can still probably splash green for Atarka's Command and Clip Wings.
at least that's what i'm thinking after the playtest. unfortunately, it seems like we can't have another playtest before FNM, so my new deck idea i will have to put to the test on FNM itself.
You know, the build of R/X doesn't actually feel that underpowered, outside of the awkward burn spells. What really seems to be the issue is that the meta is just better either aggroing or combating us.
W/X humans is a aggro deck that plays a lot of 1-drops. They have no reach, but we have very little too, so it hardly makes much difference. The thing is, their human synergies give them the ability to go bigger than us so we lose heads up,
Green decks play 4x Advocate which is a nightmare with our current removal. They are also generally GWx with company, so they clog the ground quickly.
If we go big and flying with Thunderbreak, we just get blown out by Avacyn flashing in to eat our dragon and then kill us in the air. Roar doesn't seem worth playing otherwise.
We are a decent deck, but just don't seem to be quite good enough competitively for what's in the meta right now. We'll have to wait and see. I think MTGO meta will be an interesting indicator of where we are, given how it historically favours a heavy RDW presence.

I think I would adjust that to saying that MTGO favors a heavy cheap aggro presence. In Modern that's usually Affinity and Burn, in Standard it's usually whatever Red deck is best but for a time it was the UW Heroic deck. It's entirely possible that the W/x Human deck becomes the go-to MTGO deck if its sufficiently cheap. If it starts to get more expensive, people might turn to Vamps or RDW.

well, we can splash green for Clip Wings. of course we have to get rid of Archangel of Tithes first, which can be sacrificed in Avacyn's stead and itself is just too tough a blocker for a Dragon to get through.
speaking of green cards, are there any other worthwhile of putting into the deck?
(apologies I am not familiar with the deck posting coding yet)
Arashin Foremost and Reckless Bushwacker have tremendous synergy and almost always seal the deal on turn 5 when they are available together. (keep in mind Arashin gives out two doses of double-strike when she has haste) Kytheon, Hero of Akros provides an added threat and honestly serves as a great distraction. Hidden Dragonslayer I was skeptical about at first but the lifelink is quite valuable especially with double-strike and games that carry on allow him to take out a big creature. Goldnight Castigor is there to finish, Always Watching makes it a 5/10 flying / haste but I could see using Thunderbreak Regent as a comparable substitute.
The sideboard is mainly there for you to manage your control based on what your opponent is throwin' at you.
Boros warriors is at least something to consider, I've had success with it and with Silkwrap /Declaration In Stone problems like Sylvan Advocate are on their way out (into exile at least).

I think Gibbering Fiend is decent and I like that he'll still deal at least 1 damage even if you don't have delirium online (though hopefully my madness/discard spells will make the fiend a bigger threat in the mid/late game).

unfortunately, i do not think so. one of the most popular decks now, W/x humans, is too quick and plays excellent defense.
My friend top 8'd an IQ this weekend with my list. We called it Boss Sligh 2016, I'll post the SCG link or get him to come on and post about it, whichever comes first.
This was our list, before friday, he changed some of the cards after FNM, but not substantially.
I can't remember how manyGeier Reach Bandits were in the deck, but it was 1-3
Not sure how many people were at that IQ. Might have been small. Either way, it's good to have something to add to the board, even if it is rough as guts. I've added it to the first post. I'd guess that there was fair bit of "I didn't have the cards" incorporated into that build. Not enough 1-drops and not enough green sources. The basic shell looks about right though.
I love your idea of a mono red with Reality Smasher, but IMHO i would advice you to replace 3 Rogue's Passage for Shivan Reef because you are playing 20 cards that requires RR and maybe you will found difficult to play them in some circumstances and also gives consistency to the deck.
Have you think about the sideboard? Maybe some Eldrazi Obligator could be a good call, because of all the eldrazi decks that are being playing.
I've updated the primer's primary sample deck to be Atarka Red, with the specific IQ build listed in the winning section. I've also added a matchup/sideboarding guide for the major matchups we saw in top64. I'm trying to keep the sideboarding suggestions fairly open, as everyone's 75x will be a bit different.
He put Castigator and Judgement in the Cards to Watch category. Which means could be really good or really bad. Seems about right.
He reckoned Sin Prodder looks solid, rating it in the Good category.
What was somewhat surprising is how high he rated Breakneck Rider. It's the only card he put in the Excellent category.
i can't see why. Insolent Neonate is the excellent red card from SOI for me.
i'll try the Atarka Red build you posted in the first page and see if i can get good results on FNM. i'll use 2x Chandra, Fire of Kaladesh and add another Titan's Strength to replace Sin Prodder.
@Sleeper_Agent: I'd cut Tormenting Voice. You have plenty of discard outlets already and not even that many madness cards. Besides, it's not really what you want to be doing as RDW. I'd probably also cut the Impulse and run 4x Exquisite Firecraft and an extra land instead.
so my friend was able to bring me the cards i reserved from the LGS near him and we were able to playtest. i used the Atarka Red list i made above:
4 Abbot of Keral Keep
4 Falkenrath Gorger
2 Lightning Berserker
4 Reckless Bushwhacker
2 Insolent Neonate
3 Zurgo Bellstriker
Spells 20
4 Atarka's Command
4 Lightning Axe

2 Forest
4 Game Trail

3 Tears of Valakut

Tears can't deal with Archangel and Ojutai when Always Watching is in play, though.
Black gives us Ultimate Price and perhaps even Alms of the Vein as an additional "burn" and gains life as well.
