Golgari BG Past 2-0
Golgari BG Eldrazi 2-1
Esper BUW Control 2-0
Key Notes:
Hangarback Walker is great against Languish. Drana and Hangarback work well together. Hangarback has been getting more overall value than Mimic.
Dark Petition was instrumental at searching up Smasher against GB Past. Against Esper Control, it found me an Ever After which reanimated a TKS and Drana.
Duress and Transgress helped dismember the Esper mage's spell book.
The G/B Eldrazi deck was nearly identical to my deck including Drana. The opponent used Deathcap Cultivator, Traverse the Ulvenwald and 2x World breaker (which didnt make it onboard) He said whoever get to TKS first wins. He was right about that in the first two games. But in game three, I was on the play and put out 2x Bearer. He obliterated my TKS on turn 3. But the two Bearers and a dashed Horde were the game winners.
Dark Petition is an interesting choice. I've traditionally seen that card played in only Esper builds. You don't think the 5 mana cost is going to slow you down much? While being able to search for a Smasher late game sounds interesting, bear in mind that you'd need to have 7 untapped lands for that, at which point you should be about to win or lose anyway, unless it's against a control deck in which case, I think early hand disruption is a more efficient option.
Against Seasons Past Control, it sounds it did what it should have. Keep trying it and let us know how it goes. With all the removals and hand disruption we have, I think our build is already very strong against most control builds. But I'd like to think Dark Petition would be extremely useful to search for Virulent Plague against GW Tokens.
any deck with Smasher and TKS is now on everyone's radar. Any deck with B is bringing in Infinite Obliteration and Transgress the Mind. And shredding my deck. In response, I am forced to main deck my own Transgress.

You mean decks with Smasher or TKS are starting to see more play?
1) I hope so, I'd love for my playsets to go up in price haha.
2) For countering it, are you just using Transgress the Mind, or are you using Duress too? Seems like Duress would be a better counter as it hits both, and casts less so you're able to cast other things as well like a Duress+2 drop on T3 to keep up Tempo.

This seems like a possibility. And to main deck Duress over Transgress gives us a possible t1 play.
Yeah, I feel like Duress is probably a better result in the case that it wiffs too.
Wiff with transgress and you're down 2 mana but know their hand.
Wiff with duress and you're only down 1 mana but know their hand.
I also feel like with the exception of reflector Mage, the biggest threats to this deck are things duress hits anyways. Though the exile clause is nice.

I use Transgress in the main board because I think it on average hits more than threats than Duress. Against any control deck I'll use Duress and Transgress.
Ran basically Conley Woods B eldrazi at a small pptq today to a 3-2 result.
Beat RG ramp, jund and GW tokens. All these games the hand disruption just ruined thier game plan and the ruins adding counters to TKS and smasher made them to hard to deal with.
lost to bant coco and a lower to the ground bant coco deck based around thalia's lieutenant. was just 2 slow and early interaction wasn't enough as they always had reflector mage to clear path or could just walk right past the bearers. I didnt draw a matter reshaper or end bringer all day.
I never once had no cards in hand so the sea gates were bad, and while they wouldnt have helped much in my loses I think mirror pool would have been much better.
one of my loses was directly missing land drops turns 4 to 6 on the draw , this is a mana hungry deck so upping to 25 lands and see if I dont get to slowed down with evolving wilds to help enable dilerium.
I was side boarding out hangerbacks and bearers a lot to bring in more sweepers or hand interaction, I think i will change to something more like
In a few of my games, I have been running a couple of Hedron Crawler. They can be very effective especially on the draw at helping us "catch up". They appear harmless as they cannot attack. Therefore your opponent will usually not burn a kill spell on it. They also help when we miss a land drop. An allow us to sometimes cast two spells in a turn. HOwever, I have managed to mutated a Crawler into a 2/3 with a Drana in play haha
Sea gate Wreckage has only netted me one activation in my for 40+ games using it. I just cant seem to empty my hand. Mirror pool has helped a couple of times. And Ruins is the MVP in my land base

4 Ruins of Oran-Rief seems a lot. I think 2 mirrorpools would be nice. Also, you didn't think having 4 lands coming in tapped slowed you don much? It's largely for that reason I'm running two mirrorpools and only 1 ruins of oran-rief.

Ruins has been awesome.
In Conleysome version even just pumping hanger back tokens is relevant. But mostly adding counters to TKS to put it out of chandra languish and grasp range also turning smasher into an even better threat.
Maybe in my proposed version it wont be as good

Do you recall at all what you sided in against GW Tokens? GW Tokens is believed to be the most powerful deck in Standard right now, and I had one FNM where almost everyone at the shop played that deck, and I went home 0-3. The fact that you and kpal both won against GW Tokens seemingly with ease makes me wonder what I'm doing wrong here.

Languish, Transgress ,path ,Duress, to the slaughter , basically go full control
Being get able to attack plainswalkers both in hand and on board is the key.
It seems like a creature deck but it's a deck based on spells.
You are probably not doing anything "wrong". 3x Ruinous Path and 3x virulent plague is what we need. In my match up, i would say the game just went my way. Didnt do anything special. just went full aggro

That's what I figured too. You know it's interesting because I often feel like the biggest advantage our build has is hand disruption. In the future, I might change my mainboard to go more/almost full hand disruption. Then do you recall what you took out after sideboarding?
Kpal: You went full aggro on GW Tokens? How did you do that against an army of chump-blockers?
SC, He's curve was *****ty. G1 when I was on the play, my curve was perfect. Mimic > Drana > TKS > Smasher. GG
Game two, I cleared out his Tireless Tracker ( I believe it was) and Sylvan Advocate. He didnt drop a Nissa until like turn 5 or 6. At that point he was already down 9 life points where I just aimed Smasher at him. He barely had any tokens. Maybe one or two plants.
Later on Xmage, i did run into GW Tokens. G1 on the play it was an easy game. But in G2, they hit a Nissa on t3 and then a Gideon t4. Yes that is hard if not impossible to over come. Perhaps a t3 / t4 Path and Plague would do it. Or a t2 Trangress to steal a walker.
Drana is a removal magnet. Thats the point though. A must answer threat. If she sticks around long enough to build counters on our creatures one time, then I feel she has done her job. In my experience, she has given counters to Hedron Crawler, Hangarback Walker, Pitiless Horde, and Smasher. All well worth it. She is a play style preference. And I have a thing for her myself. Even though she is not always reliable.

I still like the ruins adding value to TKS and smasher but I could see adding a couple of shrines and add the ulamog to the main deck
I wish there was another 4cc hard to deal or value with creature that was B or colourless, kalitas is great in some m/up but terrible vs the displacer, reflector mage and creature light decks. I might try and fit 4 matter reshapers back in
Hi Naz thanks for the update! Matter Reshaper is better than it looks. Its a great blocker and a decent attacker which draws you a card when it dies. Therefore it makes a great suicide creature. That and its colorless makes ultimate price a dead card.
This list offers more control with excellent creatures. Hedron Crawler gets us a t3 TKS or t4 Smasher. Doubles as a chump blocker. Grasp of Darkness is a premium removal. And with our swamp heavy deck makes it an easy 4x Ruinous Path hits everything else that Grasp misses. Including all of the crazy Planeswalkers out there. Remorseless Punishment has been a interesting card forcing opponents to lose life, card advantage and board state.
made the deck and absolutely loved it, but i still haven't faced CoCo-reflector decks, i did beat mono w humans, tokens and seasons past control. bant company and ur flyers worries me a little.
what do you all think this deck need to be fully competitive? can the new expansion help?

I'm curious: what made you think it might be useful? It just seems like a really silly card that's going to have little or a very niche use.
Also, how well has Drana worked in your deck? I'm considering taking it out because she's always killed off so easily before being put to any use.
I think I will be running this tomorrow
I expect to see gw tokens, bant humans, displacer rites , bw control, and likly a couple of the rogue decks from last weeks gps
