Welcome readers,
So this deck is an idea I have been tossing around as a possible method of playing some of the better mythic cards I like that are not being used in the format at this time. I happen to be sitting on a set of Archangels in real life and have been unable to play them despite the usefulness of them in control sideboards, so I decided to focus the card in a deck that might abuse the ability she has. This deck plays a lot like monsters, except the only monsters are the utility card Polukranos, World Eaters, with the Archangels making up for the Stormbreath Dragons. Of course, this deck does not have the benefit of Domri Rade in R/G Monsters, but it does have quite a bit of three drops to play. Specifically, this deck attempts to play Brimaz, King of Oreos early to be more aggressive than the deck might otherwise be. With the abundance of four costed cards and double white required cards, I feel running four Sylvan Caryatids is pertinent to keeping the deck functional in the early turns.
Now what this deck does is take over the game if the enemy deck can't stop it from playing just a couple mythics. Because of this, Ranger's Guile plays an important role in keeping your board developing into something threatening. This deck like other monsters decks definitely offers some unique tools specific to the deck, Selesnia Charms for enemy monsters, Ranger's Guile for black removal, Brimaz for early defense and efficient offense, Bow of Nylea is almost a mini planeswalker with the utility of making even your leftover elves and cat tokens deathtouch, killing blue and red fliers, and gaining you life. Primeval Bounty is my own version of a god in this deck, as it makes top decks much more valuable.
The sideboard runs the standard Plummets for Desecration Demon and Stormbreath Dragon.
Revoke Existence for Control mostly, but Voice is also there for the control and burn matchup.
Probably the more interesting card here is Ready // Willing, I think this can be used against a lot of decks
Combats Supreme Verdict vs Control
Brings lifetotal up versus burn if you can use a caryatid to tap for black (which is easy)
Versus other midrange strategies this card can surprise a deck with indestructable blockers
And finally it can force damage through with the deathtouch/indestructable combination
My final thought:
It is difficult to create a competitive deck that can compete with the card advantage of Domri Rade + Courser of Kruphix strategies, so with this list I seek to play as many superior cards in a creature shell that I can, that are not all monsters.
So far so good, sometimes Brimaz is a turn 4 cast, but that means I often have Ranger's Guile coming with him.
Most of the time, I am more worried about casting a turn four 5/5 creature.
I wouldn't run 24 lands with eight mana dorks, and we would be adding another 3cmc slot to the deck. I do like the idea of spear though, just hard to cast alongside Brimaz at 3cmc.
