With Journey Into Nyx fully spoiled, any preliminary thoughts on where that puts RB control?
Seems the like cards it gains are Silence the Believers (replaces Gild if you are using it), and maybe Master of the Feast (maybe he replaces LBZ at some point?).
Do new cards other people have in other decks severely impact this deck? Banishing Light will be a negative against us, but also everyone else. Maybe we need to pack more enchantment hate, although I don't recall if we have a "destroy target enchantment" card.
I think we didn't really gain or lose with the latest set.
Also regarding Slaughter Games, I run two and have run 3 in the past, and would be easily swayed to do so again. I always name Sphinx's Rev first, then TS, Duress my way through the finishers. The only other terrifying card is Aetherling really, and maybe Blood Baron. Elspeth just gets downfalled.
Hey I was wondering if you guys could post an updated deck list and reasons for card choices, I been looking around at Grixis, Dimir, and other control type decks. This one seems to be very interesting. Also what does everyone think about master of feast? 5/5 for 3 seems pretty good could replace deso demon..maybe? what are your thoughts on brain maggets??
I've been messing with something similar all summer, although I run +1 more LBZ and -1 Pack Rat.
The deck has gotten a whole lot better since the uptick of BW midrange although there are some hiccups with the list.
1) The mana is real bad. Mana Confluence is awful to me. I'd rather than a Guildgate (and I do).
2) Because the mana is very bad, I'd hesitant to run all those red colored spells. I run +1 Hero's Downfall and -1 Dreadbore (currently). Also I'd run fewer Anger of the Gods and more Drown in Sorrow. Anger hits more targets although can be Brave'd or the like in WW/Naya matchups.
3) Mizzium Mortars is your out to a resolved Blood Baron. Even Stormbreath Dragon has trouble with this guy, and you can't stall the board against a deck that runs a bunch of Downfall's and Ultimate Prices (blanks their Banishing Lights but who cares -- surpise, not them).
4) I think this list is pretty good against BW midrange's slower hands. If they have a handful of removal, maybe not, but I like our chances with Mortars, LBZ, and Stormbreath Dragon.
I've been playing this on MTGO. It's a fun deck; game 1 you can usually win out of the blue; after SB, the opp knows what's up and kills the Generator Servant on sight and it's more difficult. The mana base is a little awkward, I would suggest adding a Rakdos Guildgate and a Mana Confluence to help smooth out the early RR and BB requirements. Also, there are a LOT of aggro Rabblemaster decks on MTGO, and the 4th Anger of the Gods in the maindeck can help. Unfortunately, I haven't played against any real control decks, so I don't know how it stacks up against UW. But the deck is certainly fun to play!
Edit: I just saw a similar deck on SCG. That deck trades Pack Rat for Young Pyromancer. I like YP overall, but I like the Rat in this deck better.
Stormbreath is just a more consistently better card than master. Hasting the master out with a servant is just too cute for a deck that's really more midrange and wants to have consistently good topdecks.
0-2 GW Aggro -- the matchup is similar to MBD vs. GW Aggro, which is not very good. Trying to 1 for 1 a list that generates dudes EoT is difficult for MBD removal.
2-0 UW Control (Planar Cleansing) -- The deck performed as expected. Liliana Vess overperformed out of the side. Resolving her after a Planar Cleansing was a game win.
2-0 RB Midrange -- The deck was trying to finish with a Master of Cruelties, which speaks to him as a finisher over Stormbreath. None of the games were close since he was on 23 land (putting hope into Generator Servant), I was on 26.
MBD 1-1-1. Drew in to top 4 just to make sure I would pack. Although since there weren't many of us at the event I would've top 4'd on a 2-2 since the other guy on 6 points lost his final round and the other guy rising to 6 points I beat in round 3.
The deck is fine, although when MBD and I were testing during out Round 4 draw I found that I can't beat a resolved Underworld Connections. Which is pretty bad.
