I can't afford Abrade or any of the really good control pieces, and I wanted an FNM-viable deck that runs two colors. Since taplands and aggro don't mix, I decided to
The game plan of this deck should be simple - stall out the opponent with cheap removal like Shock and Unsummon, dig for your win-conditions and then cast them for cheap so you can protect them with counter-magic. Four Enigma Drakes are the main wincon, but as a backup beater I have Cryptic Serpent. Thriving Turtle serves as a Turn 1 play and a chump blocker with a big butt - he can stall out up to Turn 4 provided that the opponent isn't running an evader. I was thinking of switching it out for Shore Keeper, but that extra 1 toughness really matters.
Sideboard is, again, because I can't afford Abrade.
Instead of ETB Tapped lands, have you considered using Aether Hub, and along with it Harnessed Lightning and Glimmer of Genius? A happy side effect of that strategy is that your Thriving Turtle would benefit from that energy too, allowing him to block even longer or possibly even be a win condition.
