I played my first game yesterday at me LGS of sealed limited i think its called. anyway had a great time even though i was struggling to keep up.
I had bought a planeswalker deck this week, link below.
with the two booster packs. Now i have since been told this deck wont be competitive but ok for casual. My question is. Is there anything i could add and remove from this deck to make it competitive or would i be better just to build one of the recommended budget decks?
those types of decks are awful building blocks. That one in particular contains 1-2 borderline playable cards. Budget magic at a competitive lever really isnt a thing (at least not anymore) so if you plan on playing competitively, you can expect to invest several hundred dollars to get up to speed.
Sticking to limited for now while you acquire the cards you'll need might be your best path atm and there are guides you can read up on that talk about the best drafting strategies to use
Sorry for the silly questions, so you mean dont actually buy any cards yet just play in limited sealed drafts? So the budget decks recommended on here on not actually competitive?

you can acquire cards for the deck you want to build over time. Since you asked specifically about budget, im assuming that just going out and spending $500 to build a deck isnt something you were in a place to do. Limited would let you see more packs and you could draft for your standard deck as well as limited. And yes, budget really isnt competitive. Pro Tour Amonkhet is in 2 weeks. I would wait to see what decks see play there and then choose which kind of deck you want to play.
Mono black aggro is looking to be Tier 1.5-2 right now and costs under $100, but it depends what is considered budget for you.
RW Humans is roughly Tier 2-2.5 and is also in the same price range.
EDIT: Nevermind, Mono black is way too much right now for the price increases. RW Humans can still be under $100 if don't buy Gideon for the sideboard.
$100 -$150 is fine i just want to make sure im investing in a deck that is decent and competitive going forward, something i can stick with whilst learning the mechanics of the game and improve over time.
Hello! I noticed that you posted a link to MTG Goldfish earlier, and I just wanted to point out that they have an entire 'budget' series. (https://www.mtggoldfish.com/series/budget-magic) They will usually appraise 'competitiveness' in each article, and suggest card upgrades if you're not on a budget. Please ignore me if that was a painfully obvious thing to bring up, but I'm a relatively casual player who enjoys deckbuilding outside of the top-tier decks, and I sometimes play with people who are more experienced (and have better cards) so and that series has been extremely educational for me.
Also, playing limited formats and building up a card collection is a very expensive/slow way to get cards.
The cheapest way to play competitively is to buy the cards individually. If you're looking to play a very competitive deck, the best thing to do is to look at some of the proven decks and pick ones that are cheapest.
I personally like to build my own decks, but I do it the same way. Buy the cards individually. I build my decks using an app on my phone, test with proxy cards (fake cards), then I buy. I typically avoid more expensive cards (except lands, I buy lands, and I recommend all budget players buy lands).
There are also ways to get lots of cards, cheaply. Typically on EBay, you can get full playsets of commons and uncommons of each set that comes out for $45ish.
