Hello everyone, first time here so I'm sorry if I'm in the wrong area or something!
So a 2 weeks ago me and my younger brother decided to try and start playing MTG. We've both played some Warhammer 40K as a hobby but the cost was unbearable. $40 for the soft cover codex and we both needed separate ones? And a $150 gets you the 2 player STARTER set? I know magic can get costly(very) but $150 upfront was too much for any game in my opinion.
Anyway, we bought a Deckbuilders toolkit(To split) because both of us wanted to build decks rather than just buy pre built. Starting to think maybe not the best idea to start.. But what's done is done. He decided to go Black/White and I went White/Red. That was bad right from the start because out of one toolkit we both needed whites.
I like the White/Red combo, but I have heard that it's not the best combo. Don't know. But I am open to switching. I'd rather not go black as both my brother and sister are using it, and that's who I mostly play with.
I really only play at the kitchen table with my brother and sister, although I may sometime if I feel my deck is alright, go to the local card store. On the other hand, my older brother plays it a LOT more. He also has a lot more money to spend on it. I've only played one game against him but I got whooped so bad. And I actually drew an alright hand for my deck.
One thing that got me thinking I need a major revision is that I just bought a bunch of KMC Hyper Mats(Again, kitchen table so I wanted some actual protection if I do get something somewhat valuable) and I'm 99% sure the sleeves on my cards are worth more than the cards.
Now the problem. I don't have any real way to order off of the internet, especially not tons of singles. One major purchase? Sure. 15 single purchases? Could be a problem. Another problem is very VERY strict budget. Between them, I have no idea what to do.. All I've been doing is buying the occasional booster and hopefully getting a card or 2 I can use. I love opening them, but they're not much help.. In the end I want to be able to possibly play somewhere else(Not in a huge rush) and I'd like to have a fair chance against my older brother.
Here's my current deck, I know it's bad, no need to tell me. But it's all I currently have.
the best place to start is to go in and play for a while players will give you plenty of commons and uncommons they don't want also get to know the store owner if there fair they'll probaby get you commons and uncommon singles free after you've been loyal for a few months so go see what people play look at sites like http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Default.aspx and look at cards and definitely check the other budget pages around here read articles on tcgplayer and wizards here too and you'll figure out what you want to play
There are some budget ways to get cards. You can typically get all of the commons and uncommons of every new set that comes out on ebay for $30ish. That's by far the easiest way to get plenty of cards to build with on the cheap. After that, you just make judgments on rares you want to buy.

I was kinda hoping to get a slightly alright deck before going, but I may have to. Thanks!

Where can I find these? The only lots I can find are like the 4000+ cards, but from all sets.. And as of now I'm trying for standard.
Well, like I said, on ebay You can search "Shadows of Innistrad commons and uncommons" and that'll get you there. I'd provide a link, but I don't know if forum rules allow it. I may have said too much already.
If you are going to play 99% of the games in your house with your family/friend i would recommend playing the pauper format, its dirt cheap
look price here: http://www.mtggoldfish.com/metagame/pauper#paper
competitive magic es expensive, but kitchen/house/friend magic is REALLY cheap, i make deck to my friends (for less than 10 USS) and we have a blast playing against each others.
pd: dont buy sealed product (like booster) dont, just singles

That's where I was looking and having no luck. But I looked again and found a 4x all U/C cards from SOI is mint condition for $30. That is really 4 of EVERY Common/Uncommon card in SOI?
That'd be extremely helpful. Then I'd only buy boosters when I feel the urge to try and not succeed at getting a Plainswalker!
It actually would be very helpful as I can get my brother to get me some cards, and if they were just the rares I need, I'd be set!

Problem is, all my friends play standard and would like to stay that way for the occasional store visit and play. So I'm afraid I have to stay Standard.
Thanks for the help! I'll take a look at all of those links!
As for sealed products, I don't plan on buying many, just once in a while I love opening a booster. I know chances are they have nothing, but I just love opening them everyonce in a while. My sister just got a Nahiri last week. Pretty totes cool stuff.
yep, that's correct. playsets of all commons and uncommons typically run 25-40. Also, buying packs is a terrible idea. IF IF IF you want to buy a pack or 3, I recommend going to your LGS and playing competitively. Doing draft normally costs a little more than the cost of 3 packs and FNM standard costs a little more than a pack and you typically get a participation pack. In both cases, you have the chance to win extra packs.

Alrighty! When I actually get $30 up I'll purchase one of them!
Right now I can say my deck is plain and simple not good enough to FNM. I could be mistaken, but I see some valuable decks in FNM according to the interwebs. Drafting I'm not sure about.
One reason I haven't already gone to the local gamestore is I don't have the rules down completely yet and I don't want to be messing up every turn. I get that everyone makes mistakes but I'd rather not just go in there not knowing how to play a good amount of my own cards. I think we may go to the local card store soon though just to check it out. Then go back and play when I decide to.
If you like R/W, then the best R/W deck in the format (in my opinion) is R/W Humans. Just research online a bit for EMN R/W Humans. You can get a good, yet budget version for about 60 bucks.

Now if you want to play in the store (and probably they are going to play standard), you could look for cheap standard deck here:
