So I removed my 2 Call of the Bloodline and added 2 more lands. Without Indulgent Aristocrat, I was never excited to take a turn off in order to play it. I think it's a good move overall and the extra lands should make it run a bit smoother. Asylum Visitor still continues to impress. I kind of want to throw in 2 Son Prodded as well, but I'm pretty sure it's a nonbo. Plus, with the low casting cost of the deck, my opponent could shut me out of the game with little cost.
Having played against Sin Prodder, I can tell you that even in bad decks, it's a really good card. I played against a RG Land Destruction deck, and it wasn't really good. It was kinda slow, but Sin Prodder actually kept the game close for him. I wasn't playing a great deck, but it was quite a bit better than his. I figure if Sin Prodder can make up that much ground in a poor deck, then it's gotta be a good card. There aren't a lot of cards that aren't easy pitches. Granted, cards like Lightning Axe are easy to decide to get rid of, but other's aren't so easy to decide.
While that may be true, with such low casting costs in the deck I don't really see it having that much value. Generally, because your opponent won't mind taking one or two damaged as long as they can make it back up. That shouldn't be hard and some kind of clue Deck with graf mole.. I know it is not a current deck, but as I said i play block and it's a thing. I much prefer it in a dragons deck which is where I'm trying it because it can also burn people out.
Sin Prodder is like a scry that you don't want, and the discarding is just a bonus to get to the 2nd card. More often than not, i get the ideal cards from the 2nd draw. The menace is also a very big bonus.
Updates to the deck, i have not secured the dual lands and show lands that were essentially part of the deck, so I'm running 25 lands (13 mountains and 12 swamps) at the moment with my Rakdos Deck.
In other news, my Mono-red madness deck took 2nd place at FNM 2-1. Went up against Green Eldrazi Ramp, BG Ramp, and BW Control/Superfriends.
Heir of Falkenrath is apparently out of stock in my LGS. What's a good alternative for her? I'm looking at solid two drops like Asylum Visitor or Olivia's Bloodsworn
Sin Prodder's ability only negates Asylum Visitor's ability if they let you keep the card. Also, if they're taking the damage, even in a low casting cost deck, that's still a positive. A 2 cmc card is more efficient than Shock. It cost a card and no mana. The only free pitches they get are lands. If you're a low cmc deck and you've gotten Sin Prodder out, then you're at 3 mana at least. You likely don't want land draws and should be happy to have them filter out of your draws.
Replacement for Heir? Ire Shaman is a decent 2 drop. Essentially has menace, so it's a type of Evasion, and drawn later in the game, can be a little bit of card advantage with its morph.
The problem with Sin Prodder, in my particular deck, is that it's often the smart move to bin whatever is reveled because I can get more damage in than its CMC. Especially when you consider fliers. In a mid-range deck, I can see it being great. Not so much in an aggro deck. The land filtering is best case scenario while ignoring the worst.
enigma, I think you're comparing guaranteed damage/card advantage to probable damage. In the list you posted, you had 2 fliers. 1 is 5 cmc and the other 2 cmc with 1 toughness. I don't think either of those can be considered guaranteed damage. I suppose Olivia's Bloodsworn is closer to guaranteed damage, since you can haste it, but that's 3 mana and a card, whereas you would get the same damage for no mana and a card with Sin Prodder.
Sin Prodder is a big threat in any aggressive deck. Weenie or midrange.
You forgot Heir when transformed. Understandable. Yet, Still that's still 10 fliers. Ones that get 4-6 damage each in on average. Much better than 2 and being short on board position. I understand you're passionate about the card. I just don't see it for my particular deck. For that reason, irregardless of your viewpoint, it's not going in. Good luck in your brews with the card.
You're right. I forgot her, but she's 2 mana and 2 cards to maybe get 3 damage and even less likely to get get 6 or more. If she's picked with Sin Prodder, she's a guaranteed 2 dmg for 1 card and no mana expenditure, and you get to keep going deeper in the deck. I liken your argument to people who play the lottery. Sure they could just spend their $2 on a guaranteed goods and services, but that same $2 might net millions!
Now, you're right. It's your deck, and you're going to build how you want. I respect that. I honestly have 0 decks featuring Sin Prodder. I've actually only played against it once where it made a very bad, very slow deck almost kill me. I guess I'll leave you with some sage wisdom, and not try to convince you any further. A bird in the hand is worth 2 in the bush. Don't count your chickens before they've hatched. Don't take points off the board. Don't play the lottery. (That last one is just advice from me lol)
I playtested it this afternoon against two deck-techs: BW Control and G Ramp. Let me tell you something. It's faster than I anticipated.
BW Control.
I had a decent hand with Falkenrath Gorger, Insolent Neonate, Lightning Axe, Tormenting Voice, and Lands. The curve was decent enough that I was able to cast creatures every turn and by turn 5, I already dealt 12 damage. Ended the game with a lethal Alms of the Vein from a Lightning Axe.
G Ramp was something different as I had few removal, relying only on Temper and Lightning Axe so killing his mana dorks were slow. Like BW control, I had dealt enough damage to wither him below 10 HP by turn 6. Olivia and Heir were lethal, along with Lightning Axe reserved for the likes of Conduit of Ruin and his other tutors.
1st Match: GW Tokens. 2-0
Game 1 I had complete control. I had Olivia and Drana out by turn 4 and turn 5, went in for the Lethal. Falkenrath Gorger has been a consistent draw in all of my 6 matches tonight and it has allowed me to madness some cards like Youths and Asylum with Lightning and Tormenting.
Game 2 I sideboarded Avacyn's Judgment, replacing [[Fiery Temper]] and it easily took care of the tokens during clutch time and in response to the Gideon emblem.
2nd Match: Mono White Humans. 2-0
Game 1 I mainboarded Avacyn's Judgment and by turn 4, I cleared his board leaving my Drana and some creatures to swing and build counters. It just snowballed from there. Enemy used Declaration in Stone for Drana, but it was already too late.
Game 2 He controlled the board up until reaching mid game, which was a big mistake for him as I had Heir of Falkenrath and Olivia out for counters thanks to Falkenrath Gorger.
3rd Match: GR Ramp 2-0
Game 1 He just couldn't get his mana dorks to survive long enough to go past the next turn. Avacyn's Judgment was mainboarded for Fiery Temper - part of the risk for running against Tokens and Weenies. By the time he got ramped to 7 mana on turn 6, he was already down to 7 life points. I madnessed Avacyn after dealing short of 2 damage from the last attack.
Game 2 I almost lost due to a mana drought, but I was able to draw Tormenting Voice on turn 3 and I risked discarding my Lightning Axe. I got two lands in return and everything was pretty much straightforward from then on.
