I am looking to exploit Whelming Wave as much as possible. How does this deck win? There's a potential Archaeomancer/Whelming Wave lock once you get to 8 mana, or you can play Shipbreaker Krakens and Scourges of Fleets to tempo out your opponent with their abilities, or you can just stick your big fish and recur a Whelming Wave to blank their board and swing in.
I'm concerned about the deck's early game performance and about how it would fare against control decks. Early game the deck wants to counter early threats or slow them down with Omenspeaker while also digging for the first Whelming Wave. Divination, Quicken, Omenspeaker, and Dissipate all help to find it more quickly. Next you want to recur Whelming Wave with Archaeomancer or Pull from the Deep (which can net you back some counterspells while you're at it) and keep casting Whelming Wave or Curse of the Swine until you can cast your big fish. Quicken is for early cycling or for holding up a counter on your opponent's turn and still have the ability to instant-speed Whelming Wave them or instant-speed Divination.
Shipbreaker Kraken and Scourge of Fleets already have built-in plays against creature decks, and then Whelming Wave will obviously help the board at that point, too. My main concern is how this deck would perform against a control deck. It doesn't really have any threats until 6 mana, at which point control decks probably have better threats and better answers. My SB plan was Gainsays and Crystalline Nautiluses but that's probably not enough.
Anybody have any suggestions? Is this too much durdle? What cards do you think would improve this deck to be more competitive while still staying true to Whelming Wave?
There is plain too much durdle. There's just 4 whelming wave, little board control, and they'll still just play the stuff right back after. Imo, if you were to try this, it'd have to be UG to try to accelerate yourself.
