What options are there for dealing with a Carnage Tyrant available to a UB mage? It can't be countered or targeted, so all I can think of is Bontu's Last Reckoning, edict effects (Doomfall, Trial of Ambition) and Commit // Memory to at least slow it down when on the stack. Doomfall also pulls it out of their hand, and I guess there's Harsh Scrutiny as well... Anything else that can deal with the monster?
People do realize that it can't be targeted due to hexproof? It also can't be countered, which basically means no targeted removal works. The only answers that work on it are Settle the Wreckage and Bontu's Last Reckoning.

Also Fumigate, but then again he's only asking for UB answers.
Blue only does mass unsummons right now, and black only has one boardwipe. A different way to approach it although not the cleanest answer is a deathtouch creature like Gifted Aetherborn that can come in post board.

It can't be targeted while on the field, correct, but while it is on the stack options like Failure // Comply or Commit // Memory can deal with Carnage Tyrant due to the fact they do not counter. While on the stack the Tyrant does not have hexproof, allowing these cards to target it. You are also missing, as was stated earlier, edict effects that force your opponent to remove their own creatures. Hexproof and uncounterable are annoying for control players, but not back-breaking as there are several ways around it.

I didn't mention Edict cards because they almost never work against a threat dense color like green / red. Forgot about the mini bounce Summary Dismissal cards. Going to miss that fellow come rotation.

Zak Elsik said on twitter that Vizier of Many Faces is a good answer. It can copy Carnage Tyrant so you can trade with it. Plus it has Embalm so you can use it twice. And the cost is not bad either, 2UU to cast and 3UU to Embalm.
Lost Legacy is card that hasn`t been mentioned, but it can take a proactive approach to Carnage Tyrant. Everything else has been posted for UB, I think.
Did I not predict that the control mages would segue seamlessly into complaining about threats right away? And about this exact card, no less?
And it's jumping the gun, of course. The set isn't even in Standard yet and control traditionally gets stronger towards the end of a block. (I don't know whether that pattern will hold once they no longer release sets in blocks, but I think the pattern of strengthening after it's been established what sorts of threat decks are possible in the current card pool will probably hold.)
I am just playing enigma drake now since they decided that they didn't want me to play a "serious" deck.
Buying new sets of lands every rotation is a pain and my enigma drake deck is 80% peasent.
Grasp of Darkness leaving the format is actually a pretty big deal, and it dodges Strike and Abrade. Still gets hit by Harnessed Lightning, but then again most things in the format do.
The card is actually not a weak card. It can get out of hand extremely quickly.

Well, the card is specifically built to be ridiculous against and nigh-unstoppable against Control. To an annoying degree I would say, in the same vein as Sphinx of the Final Word, although this goes in a different deck. I also am rather not particularly interested with Lay Bare the Heart after the Legendary change.
That said, this isn't unanswerable. Doomfall is in the format and is good right now, and likely will be good in Black decks. Requires a clear board, but that's not impossible. Bontu's Last Reckoning is probably going to be more important moving forward.
Well, basically if tyrant becomes a thing the best idea is to play white in some form. My only gripe is that most answers are double white or blue white, with blacks answers being incredibly unreliable. That and if someone knows another player is playing settle the wreckage they can play around that card.
Personally, I like dusk // dawn the most.
What I find silly is that people are forgetting its one card in that deck. They got ripjaw raptor and other big threats as well. The best way to deal with tyrant is not deal with tyrant. Just kill the mana dorks.

Azorius decks are beastly in this upcoming format. So much good removal in those colors and really good card draw options. The decks have sweepers against aggressive strategies, oblivion ring flying angels, cast out and ixalans binding, multiple bounce and counter spells, and a one sided mass bounce on permanents.
I got more faith in pirates right now than dinosaurs.

Has anyone actually played against this card in standard?
A couple of times and it is pretty nasty when it hits the field. The problem is that it's a 7/6 threat that will hit the field turn 4 most of the time and there's really not much that can answer it directly. The best way to deal with Tyrant is to have some indestructible creature on the field, a board sweep, or an edict assuming it's the only thing on the field, which it almost always isn't given if it comes turn 4 it's probably via drover of the mighty and some other mana dork. Deathtouch also works and it's a great reason to play Gifted Aetherborn in the side.

Failure // Comply does the same thing as Commit // Memory.
Then you have stuff like Gideon's Intervention.
