I am of the belief that each color should get they're signature card back.
Not the overly powerful ones like counterspell, lightning bolt, or thoughtsieze but cards that people are use to playing back when magic 2010 first updated the combat rules.
White - as an aggro player I see nothing wrong, and I even hope for a 4 Mana uncondional wrath. It adds tension and punishes players for over extending. It made games for me so much fun.
Blue - one Mana cantrips that don't suck or Mana leak. Mana leak is a fair counter spell. I liked it in the format.
Red - two Mana instant speed burn like lightning strike. The lack of burn right now is terrible.
Green - one Mana Mana dork please. I still have no idea why they took them away. They were not too powerful but as other decks lost weapons, green had to as well.
Black - doom blade. Black has had some good removal spells for two Mana but none of them scale well. Doom blade answers a lot of problems black face.

Yea, those are MTG Bars. What can I say, I am a dork
This is exactly why core sets were vital to competitive standard play. Also, with as out of control as the creatures have become, i wouldnt call counterspell, lightning bolt, etc too powerful for today's game.

With the power level of creatures and planeswalkers being so high I can't think of any reasons why they would be to strong for standard.

they only potential I could see for getting too out of control is if there were too many similar cards in the same rotation....but then again some of the strongest Standard formats had just that. 4 different playable (and less restrictive) counters, burn spells, etc
Wizards missed the chance to reprint Lightning Bolt back in Theros block when we had a lot of X/4s running around. It would have made red devotion better, but also could have helped keep Black and Blue devotion in check by being an effective answer to Pack Rat and Nightveil Specter.

I agree, Theros would have been the right time to have reprinted Lightning bolt. It would have rotated before Atarka red.
About Red, I totally agree. I wouldn't expect a Bolt reprint, but at least give me some solid 2-cmc instant-speed 3 dmg spell. You know something's wrong when you're happy for a Shock reprint.
About Green, the reason they took away 1-cmc mana dorks is because it limits the good 3-drops they can make (for example, if Elvish Mystic was in standard right now you could have turn 2 Nissa or new Gideon).
And if there were more and better answer cards, it wouldnt matter what the green player Mystic'd in to because they could be dealt with
I agree with most of these except for the one cmc mana dork. Elvish Mystic and the like helped midrange decks too much and hampered Wizards' ability to make 3 and 4 cmc creatures b/c they could come out a turn early. The one drops did not support true ramp, they pushed midrange too much. I'd vote to see green get something different than the mana dork, though I'm not sure what. Since the other colors are getting spells back as opposed to creatures, is there a green spell we can bring back?

Rampant growth? like seriously why did putting a basic from library into play tapped move to 3 CMC

for the same reason they decided printing 15/15 uncounterable, indestructible flyers with trample that destroy everything including your first born were a good idea....
I don't think Lightning Bolt is too powerful for a staple Red card. Sure, there's a lot of stuff it can hit, including players and planeswalkers, but that's true in Modern, Legacy, and Vintage as well. Those formats don't seem bothered by it.

All of these cards are powerful, but I don't think they're format-warping powerful.
I agree, but a lot of players will not. People had a hissy fit when thoughtseize was reprinted in Theros. The problem with theros though wasn't thoughtseizes. The problem was Mono block devotion was way better than the other colors by far.

This is true. It was a bad time for Thoughtseize to be reprinted. Mono-Black devotion would probably still dominate without thoughtseize.
They won't reprint these cards because they don't need to. They kknow these are pwoerfull and cards that cans ell well so why bother put into a 4 dolalr pack when they can jsut put into a 10 dolalr one like the master sets. Conspiracy 2 was an odd ball and managed to get some great reprint but i doubt they will make something like ever again.

Yep, they will conserve the best cards for the premium sets. It seems like every decision from wizards lately is about money and not about making the game fun to play.
Even without thoughtseize Mono Black Devotion was the best deck in theros. If I remember right wasn't duress playable to.
I don't really buy the idea that they won't reprint these just to keep prices on the secondary markets high. WoTC has shown in the past that they don't care about the secondary market, or at least it isn't a primary concern, and none of the cards I listed are expensive, except for Thoughtseize.
WoTC probably just thinks these cards are too powerful for Standard, and I believe that if they released just one it would be. Lightning Bolt without Serum Visions or Thoughtseize would be too powerful. If they released all of them in the same set, there would be some balance.
Maybe, but you have to remember that other decks would also be running thoughtseize. Thoughtseize would have been a huge tool for GB decks to fight against mardu and Copycat combo. Lightning bolt would have powered up red decks like RDW and humans. The 2 damage you take from thoughtseize is a very dangerous against decks playing Bolt and other burn spells. If we had thoughtseize in the format most, if not all, of the standard bans would've never been needed.
If white gets a 4 mana unconditional wrath and blue gets mana leak you better sure as heck give red straight up Lighting Bolt.
Agree otherwise.
Wrath and Leaks were in the format when Bolts were not for a year. Both did not warp the format, and Red was still heavily played (Pillar flame, galvanic blasts, gut shots) were in the format.
Bolt, IMO is a very strong card and for the longest time was the most powerful card in Modern.
Bolts are something that are good at all moments of a game where wrath's are terrible vs control, and Mana leaks can be played around. As an aggro player, Bolt caused me way more problems then wrath and Leak did.

1 cmc Shockis unplayable but 1cmc Lightning bolt is broke. Does 1 point of damage really make that much deference? Bolt never seem broke before in Standard.

.....IDIOTS!
But I think a 2CMC 3 damage red card is the only one really needed.
Standard: BG Golgari Midrange
Modern: U Merfolk GWUBR 5 Color Humans UBW Esper Gifts GW Bogles
Give Blue their Serum Visions, Green its Birds of Paradise, White the Wrath of God, and Black Thoughtseize.
