I love how every single pro player was saying it was a problem on the day they did the B&R announcement, then merely two days later they already could see the writing on the wall. My faith in wizards has been restored, lets hope they didn't blow something else up on the way out of the station.

1. (Ravnica Allegiance): You can't keep a good esper control deck down... Or Wilderness Reclamation... or Gates...
2. (War of the Spark): Guys, I know what we need! We need a cycle of really idiotic flavor text victory cards! Jace's Triumph...
3. (War of the Spark): Lets make the format with control have even more control!
Man, what am I going to do with all this extra sideboard space. Here's to not having to "respect" the combo any longer!
But for real, anyone that didn't see this coming is blind. I'm just glad they didn't let it drag on for another month, thanks for seeing the light WotC.
This announcement has to be taken with a bit of salt. They say the reason is data from MTGO, but they likely said this because it's bad for a company to admit they made a mistake due to market share reasons. Basically, Wizards will admit they made a mistake when the apocalypse happens.

and data from forums and youtube:
"...sampling of pros and feedback ~ from our community and we decided to take action."
So, before the ban of Smuggler's Copter , emrakul, the promised end and Reflector mage we had a healthy 5-8 deck standard, after ban we had a 2 Deck standard. With this ban we may have a new 1 Deck standard, It would make meta gaming easier for new players.. I predict more bans coming.
I don't see how anyone can see this as a good sign. It should've happened on Monday. By waiting two days they just destroyed any confidence in their brand. What's the point of the announcement if they aren't going to use it?
It is very clear they have no idea what they are doing. I'm glad it happened but why they would wait is beyond me. I feel bad for anyone that just bought sahili
I definitely think they were too premature in this. Saheeli may have been posting very strong results, but they should have waiting until after the Protour to make changes, not just relying on MTGO data. Clearly it goes to show where they put the weight of their opinion in making these kinds of decisions.

As I understand it they actually had stores threatening to stop doing business with WotC and drop MTG support entirely. Stores weren't able to sell product or fire events, I've heard of LGS that literally haven't had a standard event fire in 2mo. The bottom line is this was doing serious damage to attendance, sales, player confidence already and not acting Monday was a mistake. Yes they might've used some MTGO reason but realistically this was an "Oops" moment on WotC part. Better they act now than repeat the mistakes of the past (Affinity standard anyone? Leave a 90% metashare deck around for 6mo+ and ban it after possibly as much as 50% of the player base left for good.)

Case in point, no mistake admitted for not banning the cat earlier.

go ahead and cheer for there banning of a single card, killing a single deck type.
Thus causing another deck type to be the deck to beat after gaining a whole 2 days worth of data from an online environment where you can't get a play set of the cards instantly (unless they changed it since I last played MTGO). And thus, you can't build the deck you want instantly. One would think that it takes more than 2 days to brew, test and shift the meta, even in an online format
This is the most facepalm-inducing move WOTC could have possibly made. After two days' worth of data from a format that was barely out of the embryonic stage, that's enough to make them budge on the issue? Not to mention from only one source?
Time to take the entire staff out for an afternoon of electroshock therapy.

The deck is FAR from dead without the cat-combo, in fact it is a very competitive and fair deck more than capable of taking on Mardu Vehicles and other top decks even without it.

You might want to reread the article.
Especially the following part I bolded for you.
"What we expected to take a few weeks to understand has ended up taking two days to form a clear picture of a metagame unbalanced by the Copy Cat combo, as even its natural predator, Mardu Vehicles, fell behind. Couple this with consensus among a wide sampling of pros and feedback (and pizza) from our community and we decided to take action."
Emrakul, the Promised End
Reflector Mage
Smuggler’s Copter
Felidar Guardian
Then, what is going to be next? I am not evaluating the convenience or not of them being banned, but the fact that Wizards designs and sells us these cards. At this pace the list of cards banned in standard in going to be longer that the ones banned in modern.
I have lost completely my trust in Wizards. Standard? Nevermore; Wizards, you can count me out of it.

I suppose if you want to consider that as a source of data then okay, but as far as demonstrable, hard numbers that they can refer to it was only from MTGO. Not a significant enough pool of information to draw from, especially this early on, hence my comment about the format barely exiting the embryonic stage of development.
