hi, i've red alot of post here about what purchase whould be best for new players getting into standard. buying singles seems to be the easiest way to acquire a decent deck that would be destroyed at FNM. however buying singles is really expensive where i live compared what i see online, and buying them online is not an option. for example Make Obsolete (kaladesh) is at 0,9$ but online i found it @0,25$ on cardkingdom.com. Verdurous Gearhulk is almost 18$.
Boosters however are 4,85$ so it seems like buying boosters is a better options when singles are so expensive.
I love making new decks and figureing out combos and playing against my friends/siblings/girlfriend at home. Then it's nice to have a collection rather than 1 really good deck, although i would like to have that option when i go to FNM.
Buy Kaladesh/aether revolt seems like the best purchase since this block won't be outdated as soon as the other ones. Is it possible to play a good deck from only these two sets?
For competitive decks, singles are the most efficient way to build a deck provided that you know what deck you want to build. Just find a decklist that suits your play style and purchase those cards. It will save you hundreds compared to trying to open those cards via boosters.
If you just want to build a deck that is moderately successful at FNM, I would recommend purchasing a few copies of a preconstructed deck, and putting the best cards together. This is probably your best bet if you can't make a purchase online. If you can, it may be better to purchase the singles you want from the preconstructed decks since that would be cheaper.

buy 4 singles: 4x $18 = $72
That's going to be an absolute steal compared to how many boxes of boosters you'll have to buy to get a playset of 4.
