These seem to be the big decks right now. I have been playing UR Dynavolt Tower for a bit, took it to GP Providence and lost 4 matches on day 1. I need a new deck and I want to pick a deck that is both strong now and which I can expect to be more than flavor-of-the-week. I'm leaning toward UW Flash because I already have the Avacyns and half the Copters. But BG Delirium is more established over a longer period of time.
If you were in this position, which would you choose to play?
I have the guts to both decks (missing like 3-4 cards out of each 75). I've been in the same boat and after a bunch of playtesting with the two, here's how I feel.
BG has amazing late game if you can push there. Emrakul, ishkanah, delirium fueled fatties and grim flayer, an amazing walker, etc. but losing duress seriously blows for this deck. I feel like I just roll over to things like aetherworks marvel or aether resovoir. The deck has really good game against UW flash because you have access to removal that gets around indestructible and you have a low curve with beats that will eventually out grow them.
For the UW flash deck, when you curve out really well the deck feels super busted. You have top end threats like elder-deep fiend, avacyn, or the blue gear hulk which all come down at instant speed with a crazy good ETB. I mean if snapcaster mage targets anything but a 1 cmc spell, you already start wading into torrential gearhulk territory, the nuts body is just gravy. Deep-fiend is great at keeping mana hungry or all in creature strats at bay while you whittle them down. The deck also plays almost entirely in your opponents turn. summary dismissal is your catch all to jank Johnny bs running rampant at FNMs right now. Ecause it cleans up the stack. I mean sure, sac 3 dudes to voldaren pariah, im still going to counter the ability. Sure pitch two cards to haunted dead, but she can stay in the yard.
Both decks feel viable and have different streangths and weaknesses. A tempo build without enough interaction in the early game is going to fold to RW aggro. A derliriun deck that can't draw into the handful of answers in its 75 loses to combo.
For what it's worth, both decks have cards that are making a showing in modern...if you're interested in that kind of thing.
I'll be on GB delirium myself just because I feel like the UW flash match up isn't too hard for me to navigate since I have reps with the deck.
