so Knight of the White Orchid pops up here and there in decklists, as he should because his ability to fetch dual colored mana and accelerate into another two mana play on turn 3 is absolutely insane when it works, but due to the diverse mana base of most decks he's a bit awkward to use that early in the game most of the time.
What I'm wondering is if, post rotation when the format slows down, Knight will see more play? Mana fixing and ramping will probably be very appreciated, and the first striking bear is just a nice addition. He's even a Human if tribal decks become a huge thing. However double white is still an awkward cost, and he's just awkward in general on the play.
LOL when the format slows down. What gives you that impression? Thats what they were saying when Theros rotated. And the format did the opposite.
Knight is good in a mostly mono white list. Perhaps splashing for blue or green and you can get a dual land. But no way to tell right now if it sees more play later.
maybe slowing down is the wrong way to put it, but with the sheer power of the Khans block rotating and the manabase becoming much weaker I feel like Knight will be a very valuable part of the upcoming standard. It's just something that came to mind and I agree that it's a bit early to discuss right now, but I'll definitely bump this once the entire spoiler list is out.
He's not really awkward on the play imo, you just drop him turn 2 if you don't have a better play and that's usually still alright.
I don't think the format is going to slow down, but it will be far more focused on 1-2 color decks instead of 3-4 color decks, so I would expect Knight (whose only major weakness is costing WW) to see more play, yes.
Now with the new rare dual lands from SOI, Knight secured its place in my Bant Company. Allow me to demonstrate :
On the play
T1 Fortified Village, reveal a basic Plains
T2 Plains, Sylan Advocate or Thalia's Lieutenant
T3 Knight of the White Orchid fetch another Plains, play a Prairie Stream
I'm happy
New SOI cards must be discussed in SNCD until the entire set is spoiled. -- Lugger
Been amazing for me in bant aggro. Mostly a white deck with small splashes for powerful cards like Dromoka's Command and Reflector Mage.
Having 8 fetchlands certainly helps fix your colour with no Island or Forest required. I don't think it will be possible to play as aggressively with the splash without the fetches.
I love pretending to miss my land drop on the play. I can just keep playing 2 drops all day if they want to miss land drops too
Certainly a good card and has done plenty of work for me helping to get that 5th land towards Wingmate Roc.
so now that the full list has been spoiled, how important do you guys feel Knight of the White Orchid will be in upcoming white lists? I feel like decks such as Bant Company will at least consider him, and if some sort of human deck comes up he'll be an all-star
