As an aggro player I find that esper and grixis are both very difficult match ups. I don't believe that life gain is the correct reason to drop red for white but I do think that Lingering Souls is. I have a coin toss win loss ratio against grixis but esper is downright unwinnable.
On a seperate note. I'm also looking for a new deck. I currently play RDW and have been consistantly doing well at FNMs etc. I have yet not to win prize pool with this deck. So my problem isn't that I'm not doing well. I want to become a better player. Because of this, I'm looking for the most difficult/skilltesting deck to pilot(it'll still need to be competitive). I would love any suggestions anyone might have.
well i have 2 standard decks i can play at fnm i have the black and green deck built by kibler but with a couple changes and i have omi-door-thrag-revalation deck the omni deck is super fun but the b lack green deck just seems to flow so idk what to play
I'm currently trying to find a deck to make and stick with. I've given UWR tempo a crack, but I have no Snapcaster Mages so I always feel like I'm lacking. I've tried 4 colour control and, although really fun, didn't have the competitive edge.
Not enjoying standard much so not played it since November but am travelling for a few events this weekend. I'm a bit out of date on meta but probably expect to see reasonable amounts of bant control and UWR flash.
Which would you play: jund midrange (I like batutinha's approach to it) or junk reanimator (kenji tsumara type of deal)?
I've tried Naya and can't get on with the greedy mana so it's ruled out for me
Back a few months now after a 15 year break. Modern, standard and EDH are all played at my FNM so im trying to put a deck together for each without having to sell my body! I enjoy aggro, control and just about every color anyone have any ideas of something I can play without going poor and that I can build on as time goes on?
I'm looking for a not super expensive deck, ( hopefully not 3 or 4 colors as the mana base eats up my budget.) I am looking for a fnm level fun deck, anyone have a list or archetype that fits the bill. I haven't played in standard much since mirrodin where I played esper artifacts.

Standard wise, RDW builds without the Helkite will only cost you $50-70 depending on which version. Its not as stable as previous standard generations of RDW but can still get there and is probably the cheapest consistent placer. That, and the burn spell in gatecrash can potentially help a bit with the thragtusk problem.

What would you recommend in place of the Hellkite?
I am not sure what to play, I just started a month ago and I have been playing u/w enchant, but I much rather play u/b or esper leaning more towards esper, but I don't know what/how to make a competitive deck of either.
I don't know why I don't like G or R, but it just doesn't appeal to me.
I have made 2 threads in the Budget section about decks I may want to play, but nobody responds and helps. I am hoping somebody helps me here. I am 13 and not able to get a hold for 4 snapcasters or really any card $15 and up. I like playing w/g and w/b control.
Any advice on what to run?
One budget deck I actually did quite well with that flew under the radar this past standard was based around Rhox Faithmender and the amazing synergy it has with pump spells and any and all lifegain. It's by no means tier-1 competitive, but it is solidly tier-2 and can catch people off guard. Basically, it's a GW deck with four Faithmenders and a good amount of Heroes' Reunion, with aggressive, tough green low drops such as Strangleroot and Young Wolf, enabling you to safely clear out of the reach of most aggro rushes. Put in a bit of white removal (Pacifisim, O-ring, etc.) and four Rancors (absolutely obscene on a Faithmender), as well as a few finishers-I recommend Wolfir Silverheart as a nice budget curve-topper, although Angel of Serenity or Sigarda will work just fine, and two Chalices of Life for an occasional added win condition. This deck's main strength is that nothing can run right over it, and you have a fighting chance in every match against anything in Standard. With the right sideboard, this deck can go places at the FNM level. Hope that's what you wanted to see.

See what I suggested two posts up, it's a ton of fun and it actually works pretty well at the FNM level.
*Ok idk where to post about this, the competitive forum is locked for me*
umm I am trying to play G/W aggro, im wondering should I play Sublime Archangel version or the Thragtusk/Angel combo version, in the current meta environment.
And what sideboard should i use to play against the Peddle to Metal type of deck? I think thats a problem to my deck since they have too much fast removals.
Hello all, I am the crossing point currently of either keeping my deck Naya or Jund.
I tried Naya when RTR first came out but didn't have the go-big cards like AoS or Thundermaw yet. So I moved to Jund Midrange deck and over the course of a few months, fine tuned it and traded aggressively for Bonfires, planeswalkers, and other staple cards.
Recently, I wanted to give Naya a try because around here, there are a lot of people going the indestructible ooze path, flash creatures, and regeneration (not to mention some hexproof). The only answer I could use comfortably and easily was Selesnya charm to exile haste and/or regeneration on 5+ power creatures (as in rancor on a Wolfir Avenger).
Now with GTC coming out, and dual lands helping both, I do not know which one to strengthen first. I see Boros guild adding a lot of cards to Naya (white based cards like Boros Charm).
Which do you think might be a better deck to start into GTC? Thank you.
I'm planning on going to GP Quebec City, and i am looking for a deck to play. i'm debating between a couple of decks some being rogue/homebrew sort've thing
Bant Midrange -> GTC makes it a possibility with the Simic cards, and the Duals cards such as Resto Angel/, Master Biomancer, Thragtusk could pust the deck to be a decent metagame deck
Any Control List ( Preferably Grixis, BUG or Esper ) -> I'm a fan of the "rogue like" control list. I've won a local game day before with U/B Tezz Control which was my favourite deck of all time so far.
I was a driver of Selesnya Tokens, but that deck was simply "meh". Now I'm thinking about some Control deck and my I've got 2 choices - Dimir Control and Esper Control. My local meta is heavy aggro (Reanimators/RDW/GW Aggro/Jund Midrange). Which of this 2 would be better?
Esper control would be the better choice. You got Sphinx's Revelation and more reliable board wipes such as terminus and supreme verdict
Not actually for me, for a friend. We want to run something budget-ish, but we're not particularly concerned. Think $60, but we already have the landbase. It'd be best if it were something not to popular. Thoughts?

Seems like a dull deck, I hit you in the face and win, I want something that ends the game in a funny combo, or makes your opponent unable to do anything, right now I am running U/W flash, which is nice because it does the ladder, but have been wondering about other options, like epic experiment or naya seance combo to play unplayed cards. Another idea was turbofog, but I don't want to play three colors
I'm starting to get back into the game and I want to play a deck that isn't a simple "Smack you and win" basic aggro deck. I want something that switches up the win condition, or at the very least has multiple ways to win a game.
Orzhov intrigues me, as does B/W in general so I was wondering if there was anything including B/W/G? Using the new Obzedat, Ghost Council specifically.
Recently getting back into Magic with the Girlfriend.
She hasn't played since Mirrodin, and I haven't played in about 2 years (Since the Return to mirrodin block cycled in)
I used to play a Mono-Vamps deck that played very well in a meta ruined by Jace 2.0.
Basically just looking for some advice as to what's competitive (apparently the local meta we will be playing in is pretty competitive) and what may suit myself and my gf.
I like control/mill decks and tribal decks (Loved the mono vamps) and the GF like decks that stall while building power, then swings for the win.
I want to play a deck that's just going to win at this week's FNM. I know it can't be guaranteed, but the prize support is going to be insane. So, I'm thinking about sleeving up the (degenerate) Bant Enchantment deck, having just acquired my 4th GOST. It seems like I can just blow most things out with it, even with the addition of GTC (since it will only have been legal for a day).
Normally I play what interests me, but since I'm not buying any GTC product, I need to just win a few times at FNM to get some packs/credit built up. I'm personally not fond of the deck, but I think it's explode-y enough to take it, or at least top 2-4.
The meta is really a good mix of decks, anything from RDW/Rakdos to Esper Control, and it's super super competitive with a lot of good players. I'm hoping they'll all be experimenting with new GTC stuff, and I can just slip in with this Bant-chantments and take it. I would consider building RDW, but I no longer have any Thundermaws, which I feel are kind of important to the straight up red version of the deck. Thoughts?

I've got 4 Thragtusks so I want to do something with green, but I'm unsure what. I've got 3 Geist of Saint Trafts so Bant seems tempting, but I've got a playset of Bonfire of the Damned and 3 Huntmaster of the Fellss too, so I feel obliged to use them.
Can anyone give me any ideas on whats the strongest deck to use with these cards, or what direction I should go in?

Hound of Griselbrand seems like a good choice, if you can give it haste (Lightning Mauler or Gatecrash's Hellraiser Goblin)
