So I have been playing Thermo-thing/UR fevered visions spells deck since just before last rotation, when I gave up on my Esper dragons deck.
But with the sharp shift towards aggro decks I just can't keep up, with the low mana huge creatures, also Fatal push kills all my win cons.
I played UR Dynavolt tower for game day and tonight, but with only two gearhulks and two glimmer of genious, 0 disallow :/ I didn't really have time to obtain cards. But it was pretty terrible honestly, (2-3, 9th, game day) and (0-3 tonight).
I thought about the UR emerge list zombies list but I have no kozileks return and someone else at the LGS picked up that deck since the pro tour.
I still have my esper lands, maybe something UB? metallic summonings was pretty great for my dynavolt deck... if I lived long enough.
*sigh* everything needs multiple copies of mythics. :/, and it is not nessairly the money it is more that Stores and people don't have the cards or are not willing to trade them incase they get bored and switch decks next week.
I am recently coming back to magic and decided to buy one of those Planeswalker decks. I bought Tezzeret's Deck and some Boosters from Kaladesh and Aether Revolt to assist me.
With the Tezzeret deck in my possession. I do possess also Noxious Gearhulk and Sram's Expertise as notable items what I have that I've obtained in my Booster Buys.
I was thinking of a Esper Build for this one. Semi Budget at best, not looking for a bank-breaking deck for this one.
Brand new Magic player here.. I'm looking to build my first deck and need some help figuring out which would be best for me. Are there any sites or places I can look at online that help break down the basics, the pros and cons, advantages and disadvantages of certain decks?

Here is one take on improving the Tezzeret deck on a budget. Even though it isn't esper, there might be ideas that could be stolen.

Generally players start with aggressive red decks, get a feel for the game and the choices available before deciding what they want to play. While playing aggressive decks optimally is quite challenging, they are relatively straightforward to play suboptimally. The best aggressive deck in the current format is Mardu Vehicles. It is both expensive and sophisticated, but if you want and can afford it, It should give you the best early results. Snek might even be simpler to play. Green-white or Red-White Humans tribal are not as competitive, but are decks that I am familiar with. Others can certainly suggest other aggressive decks that are at least on par with these Humans decks.

https://www.mtggoldfish.com/ do a series of budget decks both standard and modern with videos of them being played. It's a pretty handy site.

I do appreciate your help in advance, I'm sure you see plenty of these threads/questions weekly. What better place to learn from the expert community though?
So I haven't played MtG for a solid 5 years if not more, I know a lot has changed and the game can be incredibly overwhelming. I've been watching Tolarian Community College a lot and developed that itch we all know so well.
I went to my LGS tonight, solo, just to hang around and watch. I learned that you know scry 1 after a mulligan, is this after any number of mulls? I also noted a new "energy counter" which I can read up on (unless you'd like to explain a bit!). Any other major changes like these you can give me tips on?
Also, I think I'm best positioned to start playing and getting a feel for the game by playing standard. I'd like to know how long I can look forward to this "block" being in rotation. For example, I'd prefer not to drop $500 on a deck only to have its core rotate out from under me in eight weeks. And I apologize to ask it, but I'm looking for a deck that will position me well in my FNM (its quite competitive from what I can tell, and I really don't want to get rolled). Budget isn't a huge issue and I don't have any interest in a RDW/Burn variant.
I know this is a lot of questions and information coming at you but again, I really appreciate the help and I hope to become a member of the fantastic MtG community once again!
Nothing will rotate when Amonkhet is released. There is one more block (so several months yet) before anything rotates. Rotation doesn't occur until the last set of the year is released. It will be a new block, as of yet unnamed. The two blocks, Battle for Zendikar (Battle & Oath), and Shadows over Innistrad (Shadows & Eldritch), will rotate out at that point.
The Mulligan rule is the biggest game play change. The rest are new in game mechanics. Vehicles are probably the most different of these. You might want to read up a bit on how they work, as you will undoubtably come accross them in play.
Checkout the Standard deck subforums here in the Proven and Established sections if you want to have a competitive deck. There are other websites like MTG Goldfish that feature metagame breakdowns with average pricing for decks, which might also be very helpful.
About rotations, Zendicar block and Innistrad block are rotating out this fall. If you're wanting to pick a deck that's going to potentially have longer staying power, you'll want to pick decks that aren't heavily dependent on cards from those 4 sets.
Vehicles will likely be a deck that sticks around longer since it's dependent on Kaladesh cards mostly.
The energy variants of green/black could possibly be around after rotation. It at least has a better chance than the delirium variants.

After you decide to keep, if you have mulliganed at all, you get scry 1. It doesn't matter how many times you mulliganed. The official verbiage is here.
Rotation is with the release of the fall set. Standard goes from being the sets from the previous 2 years (8 sets) to being the sets from the previous year plus the newly released set (5 sets). Official verbiage here.
Your other question seems to me to fit in the "I need help deciding what to play" thread, so I will merge it there to hopefully get that question more direct attention.
The long term themes I see sticking around at the moment are counters matter g/x decks, dynavolt energy, and r/x aggro. Strategies involving graveyard strategies will get noticeably worse once innistrad rotates and we lose some exile tools as well as Gideon and kolitas from bfz.

HI guys! I started playing around the end of 2014, in Standrd, with the Khans Block. I really liked the Temur tribe since they use my favorite colors (red, blue and green) but they weren´t good enough and i got bussy with college so i stopped playing. Now i wana go back to any format tbh (modern, standard or Commander) but i only want to use these colors or any 2 of them(i dont wanna use white or black). So if anyone could recommend me a nice not so-expensive deck to play i´d really appreciate it. Thanks!
I've been gone for awhile. Is there a fairly clear sort of "all in" aggro deck in standard now? If there is a tie or if its iffy , red or black heavy is my preference, but any colors are ok. It doesn't need to be fully "Teir 1 competitive" just... you know pretty good. Thanks in advance.
-Troy Welcome back! Merging into the "I need help deciding what to play" thread because there's a thread for that. I hope this helps. - hoser2
@Tackycures - The themes of the new set fit with the Madness cards of Innistrad. It may take some tweaking, but there is a ton of potential for the right build. I would look here to see what's being done. Mono-B aggro made the top 8 of the most recent major tournament with this list. Or there are my personal favorites for just playing creatures and turning them sideways (although these are adulterated by inferior colors ): WR Humans (which also made top 8!) and GBx Constrictor. There are also RG aggro decks here.
Cheers!

Thanks hoser, sorry about posting in the wrong spot. I always seem to have trouble figuring out the "speed" of a deck other than just looking at the mana costs. Back in the day I always played mono red aggro (way back I played land destruction / sniffles) or white weenies but neither seems to really be a thing anymore.

Yeah, right now aggro decks are all over the place. If anyone is interested in getting back into standard and are running low on cash from playing modern, Strictly Better MTG did a deck build over at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qxMM6tlcj2U&t=0s. I can attest that the deck does win a lot of games and it really plays like a budget sly deck.
Edit: Also right now simic ramp / converge strategies are possible as well thanks to cards like Cascading Cataracts that go well off the beaten path. People just sort of forgot they exist it seems from BFZ.

UR control is a good investment if rotation is your concern; the only real things that the deck will end up losing that aren't likely to be reprinted are Void Shatter and Wandering Fumarole, neither of which is vital to your win condition, with Void Shatter being totally replaceable by Disallow.
I seriously wouldn't worry about rotation unless your deck is using Gideon, Ally of Zendikar, Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet, or any of the big money cards from the time. While singles sellers are trying to bank on the hype in Amonkhet, they are also in the middle of liquidating old inventory and cards like Bring to Light, Woodland Wanderer, etc, are really cheap at the moment. It's ultimately going to come down to breaking even or winning more than you spent on the deck you built to play.

i typically liked to play aggro or mid range decks. after the banning of cat my local meta has massively swung to B/x control decks, and i am having an extremely hard time being a threat. Blacks efficient removal combined with sweepers and/or counters from other colors is making it really hard for me to get a threatening board presence on the table. any recommendations on decks to combat this control heavy meta
Hi, modern player here. I want to go into standard but would not want to invest in the SOI and BFZ blocks as it is about to rotate out. I'm choosing between Mardu Vehicles and Temur Energy. I currently play Abzan Midrange in Modern.
Is it a bad time to choose a deck right now because 2 blocks will be rotating soon and the meta will become unknown again?

Looking (for example) at the most recent MTGO competitive leagues: Temur Energy, RG Energy and GB Energy will be minimally affected by rotation. Some lands and Nissa Voice will rotate, but they will hold some value. The remainder of the cards will be around for 16 months. Mardu Vehicles seems like it will be hit harder. You might optimize value by waiting for rotation, but that might not be a great benefit, as many of your cards will likely have a 12 month standard lifespan. Further, prices will jump for the cards from the best postrotation deck and it could cost you.
In your shoes, I would stay away from Vehicles unless you find a list that doesn't lean on Gideon, Avacyn, Nahiri or Spell Queller. It would be a fine time to pick up and play an energy deck. Starting now could leave you with a good understanding of the format when rotation rolls around. Playing FNM this month also gets you Aether Hubs.
I'm looking to return to playing Standard after a 10-month break from Magic in general. I last played U/R Dynavolt Tower and it never gave me the results I was looking for. I've looked at the MTGO 4-0 lists since the Aetherworks Marvel ban, and it seems like BG Energy/Constrictor and Mardu Vehicles are the top decks now. I already have Gideon and Avacyn, so that makes me more inclined to play Mardu, but the BG deck has some really appealing synergy. What would you go with?
