Hey folks, I'm looking to build a deck that I can use in Standard play. I have experience playing, but I've never needed to prescribe to deck rules because it was just playing with friends.
I mainly like decks that are primary Green, but I'm also willing to play Blue primary. I'd like to be competitive, but I'd also like to use this opportunity to learn, so every time a new set comes out, I can make these decisions myself.
Budget: Flexible. I'm willing to pay for cards, if they are really worth it (would prefer if they weren't on their way out) Colors: Green or Blue primary. Mix of both. Or alternate secondary colors. I really like Green's Ooze cards, but I don't know if I could make them competitive. Sets: Standard, and if possible, I'd like to lean towards newer cards so they are in Standard longer. JOU cards would also be good, I'll be trying to get my hands on that set as soon as possible.
You could try mono-green or mono-u devotion, most of the current tier 1 decks with the exception of mono black and mono blue devotion will be hit very very heavily upon rotation as the core that makes up the decks are from RTR/M14. Even mono black/blue will be hit, but the heart of those decks are not in RTR so they'll probably exist post rotation. Mono green is a bit less competitive, but has a lot of tools in the theros block to help resist rotation
I just played Gu devotion and went 2-3 with it, losing against Esper control, Bant control and boros aggro with Elspeth. There's a ton of people playing Gruul/Jund midrange and I should handle those matches, but the control matches were just too much. Is it worth sticking it out (because I'm a timmy at heart) or should I switch to something that doesn't loose as much but is more complicated to play?
I am generally not a standard player, but I am looking for a reasonably inexpensive format (compared to legacy) to play with my brother and I figured standard was the place to go.
Seeing as that we weren't totally sure of what to go with, not really knowing the metagame, only our preferences, we were hoping for some advice. Here is what we usually play, thanks in advance for the advice.
Having played a large amount, we are both comfortable with more complex decks.
We are both control players at heart but if we had to rank it:
Me: Control > Combo > Aggro
My Bro: Control > Aggro > Combo
Me:
-Shardless BUG in Legacy
-Faeries in Modern
-Damia Sage of Stone/Hermit Druid/Laboratory Maniac Combo in Commander
My Bro:
-UW Stoneblade in Legacy
-Naya Zoo in Modern
I went to Friday Night Magic this weekend and did horribly... I played W/R heroic aggro deck and won the first match of each of my rounds fairly handily, but ended up 1-2 in every round after my opponents sideboarded in removal/blink. I'm wondering what kinds of decks could do well in my meta: heavy control and several different midrange decks. I enjoy aggro style decks, but obviously fragile early-game orientated ones won't do too well.
Playing in a GPT this weekend. Normally I've been playing some form of control (UWR is my favorite to play, but Esper has generally performed a bit better, but this was pre JOU). I generally like to win off the backs of spells rather than creatures, but looking to possibly mix things up this weekend. I'm trying to decide between:
UWR (updated with JOU cards)
Esper (updated with JOU)
Bg devotion
Junk Midrange
I'd need to buy some last minute cards for each of these decks, with Junk being the one that I am missing the most (primarily the lands). I'm leaning toward Bg, but I'm not sold on it 100%. Suggestions?

Modern: UWR Breach, UWB Esper control
Legacy: UW RiP/Helm, UR Sneak and Show
BG Devotion is probably your best bet. Mono black is the most resilient deck and adding green really helps push the deck in a good direction for any smallish event.
I have the following decks:
RW Burn
Mono black dev(splash red/green)
Mono black aggro
UW Control (splash red/black)
Mono U (splash W)
Naya Hexproof
My LGS meta is pretty aggro heavy, the regulars seem to be:
RWb Burn
Junk constellation
Golgari midrange
W splash U aggro + good stuff (aggroy mostly, but have revs/gods)
Boros Aggro
2 best player plays Esper Control
And game day a couple other stuff usually pop up, but those are the regulars. What do you guys think would be the best deck to tackle this meta? There was 1 mono black last game day, but typically no MBD decks. Open to building anything else except RG monsters (don't want Domris when they are closing on rotation)

Actually you're horribly horribly incorrect. Control decks WILT under hyper aggressive decks. Over the past 5 weeks at FNM im 16-3-1 with different iterations of All in Red style decks. Go check out the primer in the proven competitive standard forum.

Would Dark Confidant still be good if he punched you in the face for 5 damage a turn?
I'm trying to get back into Standard but I have a limited budget (like $100 a month on singles just to have a deck to play) so I'd like to find something that is capable of winning FNM or at least having a good chance against most of the popular decks, but doesn't necessarily rely on a lot of chase rares to do so. In a perfect world I would play G/R because it seems really fun but I imagine all of those Hydras and such are very expensive. I don't really want to play mono black aggro or R/W (would prefer straight up red burn but that doesn't look very impressive...could be wrong though) so I'd like some feedback in regards to what works right now and what I can expect to pay to get started (IE get the commons/uncommons/rares for the deck while maybe leaving out the $20 and up cards)

"Of course you should fight fire with fire. You should fight everything with fire." - Jaya Ballard
I feel like this is going to sound super generic but I'm looking for a decent deck (doesn't need to be T1) that is at least a little fun to play. Budget isn't a huge factor. I was an avid Standard player during Innistrad-RtR, getting in with Mono Green Fight Club (which I loved), creating RG/Naya Zoo before it was a real thing (so wasn't the best), and then from playing those built up enough credit and trades to play OG Aristocrats, Act 2, and Junk Reanimator. Loved all of them. Somewhere in there I played Omnidoor Thragfire for a month and it was my favorite deck to play. Then Dragon's Maze rolled around and I quit between boredom and school. I came back on Game Day and took first with Rite Aid but traded it back out the next day. I've seen a little bit going on Standard wise and I've built a very glass cannon BG Dredge deck but it's not great in the meta. Aggro goes too quick and Wx Control does fine. Funny enough, the best match up is against Monoblack. Is Reanimator an option or is it too clunky without Unburial Rites? Aristocrats seems hard to pull off without a Blood Artist affect. While writing this I randomly thought of the old Lucky Charms (Azorious Charm + Boros Charm + Reckoner deck) and might see if that's possible.
I'd greatly appreciate any suggestions.
I am getting back into the game, I quit around innistrad. I just need to know what the meta looks like now, so I can determine what kind of deck to make. I am looking to play standard mostly with friends and the occasional FNM. I am a college student so I do have a budget, but upgrading through time is a possibility. So far I am leaning toward mono black aggro or devotion or mono blue devotion. Is there any competitive dredge/reanimator decks out there at the moment?
Mono Black Devotion and its variants (BG and BW being the strongest two), RW burn, UW control and Esper Control, Junk midrange, BW midrange, Blue Devotion, Black Aggro, Red Aggro, Green Devotion, Dredge, Junk Constellation, WR Devotion (probably missing a few decks)
My local meta suddenly got plagued by the naya version of a certain SCG open, now my local meta is populated by nayas / selesnyas mid and agro decks ( Almost 5 of the 12 decks on the last fnm were one of those) i need help on deciding what kind of deck can have a favorable match against those. I was using a brave naya but i felt i had to go on the defensive on a lot of the games. I already have all the cards for grul monsters, monogreen devotion, selesnya agro, monored agro, and i was thinking i could go and try for JUND monsters since it will be easy for me to get the cards on trades, what do you think? is it a good call against the meta?
If the results from SCG Providence are any indication, Mono-blue Devotion would be a good choice. Check out the interview with the winner of the Standard event for his thoughts on why Mono-blue is a good choice right now.

My Decks:
Innistrad-RTR
UWR Flash: 7-1, 1 FNM Win-A-Box
Rakdos Aggro: 20-8
UW Flash: 11-5
Boros Aggro: 3-1
Jund: 42-12-3, 4 TNM Win-A-Box, 2 Koopa Standard IQs, Gatecrash Game Day Champion, M14 Game Day Champion
I want to get back into standard and my preferred colors are Green and White. I had a Naya G/W/R Battalion themed deck before Theros block, most of which is still legal but I got kinda bored with it. I want something casual that I will be able to play after Return to Ravnica block cycles outs or that will stay mostly intact, if possible. It's gonna be mostly a budget deck so hopefully nothing that like requires 4x Voice of Resurgence. It doesn't have to be top tier, just effective.
I threw together a bunch of stuff I had to come up with a pretty mediocre aura heroic/hexproof deck. I like that it stands up pretty well to my friend's mono-B devotion but I don't want to commit to a deck like hexproof that a lot of people say is cheap, un-interactive and auto-play. I want something fun that gives my opponents a chance but maybe wouldn't be too weak to my friend's Black Devotion.

My meta is shaping up to be a ton of Naya, monored and Selesnya decks as well. I'm brewing up a B/W Humans deck heavy on sacrifice effects. (Devour flesh, Dictate of Erebos / Cartel Aristocrat / Xathrid Necromancer) since they've started carrying Rest in Peace vs my dredge deck.
I'd really like to get back into the swing of standard. I'm not looking to spend a whole lot, but I do have, and would very much like to use, some threats like Stormbreath Dragon and Polukranos. Unfortunately, I'm not sure how to do that since Jund Monsters costs a crap ton. Help?
I've been out of Standard for about 4 years and I want to get back in. I enjoy playing mono black, mono red, red black and Jund. Welcoming any and all suggestions. Cost is not an issue. Thanks!
