OK, I'm preparing to get really yelled at here.
CYA Disclaimer: I searched multiple areas of the Standard forums and did not find ONE INSTANCE of Butcher's Glee, so either I'm doing Search wrong or it's a terrible card.
I play a lot of Limited and I have never seen anyone lose a game where they cast Butcher's Glee, even when they were way behind. So, does this Limited must-play have any home in Constructed???
I play Abzan Aggro, and so I've wondered about Butcher's Glee there, but it seems like it'd be hot in Mono-Black. Clearly, it has one serious limitation, where it is practically only good DURING combat, but it's so swingy, that I wonder if it can't be played as a 2-of or 3-of in the right deck. It has secondary applications in Fight, and possibly to counter removal.
There's just not enough mono-black aggro decks around. Plus, if you want to compete against teir-1 decks, a conditional utility spell is not as good as disruption.
Three mana is too much for most combat tricks, regeneration is typically inferior to Protection or Indestructible (represented by God's Willing and Valorous Stance), and Lifelink isn't especially sexy for an aggro deck except in specific matchups.

Formerly Angrypossum over at the now-defunct WotC forums.
There is much more flexibility for cost in limited as FuriousMarsupial points out or at least touches upon. A 4 or 5 cost spot removal could be good in limited but terrible and not even considered in constructed. If I wanted a black combat trick that does regenerate, I'd go with the much more flexible and less mana intensive boon of erebos. Yes, it costs life but if I'm in an aggro deck, I'm going to value that flexibility like being able to swing into a courser or caryatid and threaten to kill them as early as turn 2 should they try to block. To me, that flexibility as well as the ease of leaving 1 open vs 3 is much more valuable to me in an aggro deck than the life that might be gained if it goes to combat and they're not using a kill spell or something.

Thanks for your consideration.
