Brad Nelson just rocked it in the last feature match with his 4 color Mar-Zan deck. It looks like a "good stuff" Mardu/Abzan mash up, and he is killing with it.
Holy bejeesus Boswell vs Dupal is great! Top deck Magic might be terrible to play but it is fun to watch
Dupal played so bad and still won. Playing Rabblemaster instead of Butcher was bad as you have to play around Bile Blight. Then he takes a turn off to Read the Bones which makes zero sense since his hand was all gas. That game should of ended so much earlier if Dupal was any decent.
Later he even sac'd two tokens to Butcher when just sac'ing one for haste was the right play.

Not really, it's as crap to watch as it is to play. Topdeck after topdeck is just silly and inane, not entertaining.
Dupal played like crap the entire match, yet he beats a top quality player like boswell. I quess thats how magic goes sometimes. I hope dupal watches the match on video and learns from his mistake. He should not be happy with how he played. Not sure how he made top eight if he played like that all day.
"Esper Control Shaheen Soorani" a much better love story than twilight. Really the only problem with esper is that the mana base is awful, 12 etb taped lands :S.
I like Ali Aintrazi's 9th placed U/B is also super interesting. 8 1 cmc hand remove and 4 of both dig and cruise... I assume the win con is Ashiok mill and not nessairly steal. I'll test it (I have all the cards already) It is certainly a mid range meta call but its also good against UW heroic.

I like that it plays 4 Dig and 4 Cruise, feels like its almost unfair
Yes it's a healthy metagame but it doesn't explain why this deck won.
The strategy struggles against Thoughtseize with Utter End.
I think perhaps Abzan decks have stopped playing Utter End.
No, the top 8 was riddled with copies of TS, Utter End, Glare of Heresy, Banishing Light and Erase. In fact, only one deck (ironically the Esper Control variant) didn't have one of the aforementioned cards in their 75. There was also plenty of Drown in Sorrow, Bile Blight, Anger, End Hostilities and etc amongst the top 8 as well for the token side of his deck. The thing you're simply not accounting for is variance. The dude could have gotten the combo off before it could be disrupted/drew into a couple timely negates/won some matches absent the combo and etc. The hate is there but the deck also isn't exactly one dimensional. But yeah, variance.
I really like Kevin Jones' Jeskai Aggro. I wonder if Monastery Swiftspear could replace the rocs to make this deck lower to the ground and more aggressive.

It doesn't struggle as much as one would think, as Ascendancy isn't necessary to win, only significantly speeding up it's clock or giving it a means of auto-winning if necessary. It's an aggro deck with a combo component, not a straight combo deck. It's much more resilient to hate than the mana-dork versions. It also doesn't need to combo off with Jeskai Ascendancy to have Ascendancy prove a significant gain for the deck. Remember, those creatures all get +1/+1. It doesn't take more than a handful of triggers to turn a few 1/1s into real threats. It also turns creates huge prowess triggers as well. It's just able to go extremely wide and fast. You're under the impression the deck *needs* the combo, or even ascendancy, to win. It doesn't. You could keep a perfectly reasonable hand that would be fine against most combo matches, but still lose to the army of creatures beating you down.
I'm sorry but in my opinion that's not true at all.
I'm just hoping the new SCG format gives a better representation of how consistent decks are. Not that there's anything wrong with getting the right top 8 match ups to win a tourny. You can only beat what is put in front of you.

Tourney begins 10:30 am ET.
The SCG grinder crew has some brews (allegedly). Players will be back at it after a week off with Force of Will and Treasure Cruise.

UB Etrata, the Silencer Cloning assassination
Peasant cube: Cards I own
I mean well done to him but it seems like there's something funny with the meta. Too many slow decks and something like that just goes under them all.
All the Mono B decks started Sideboarding for the mirror and UW Control, they forgot about Boss Sligh and were punished for it.

Healthy meta.
The top decklists are all over the place! Really great season so far. Wide open and super interesting.
