Hey, I was wondering what happened to good mana ramp like birds of paradise, wild growth or fertile growth? Seems the mana ramp is a bit slow now. Is wizards intentionally slowing down ramp?
There's more than one kind of mana ramp. Some is early ramp like Birds, but other rampers in Standard can boost midrange decks and their spells. Sylvan Caryatid is an excellent card that's staying for another year, and Xenagos, the Reveler can make mana for GR strategies like Monstrosity on Stormbreath Dragon and Polukranos, World Eater. Plus, there will probably be more good mana ramp/fixing cards in Khans of Tarkir. I'd be surprised if there weren't, since every fall set has to fill gaps left by the set that rotates out. Theros can't do everything by itself.

Play Mono Green Devption. Elvish Mystic, Sylvan Caryatid, Karametra's Acolyte, Burning-Tree Emissary, Nykthos. Dump hand by turn 5, kill opponent by 8.
Honestly, if we get a Farseek or Rampant Growth effect back, it will significantly reduce the value of Sylvan Caryatid, for the purposes of pure ramp (i.e. land is not summoning sick). On the plus side, IF this happens, it will be an awesome mana fixer and blocker.

Disclaimer: As per the norm, I am aware some people will disagree with my opinion and I acknowledge there is a possibility that my opinion is wrong. The above post is simply my musings on what I view to be the most likely scenario given the information that is available and I am aware of at the time of typing! Peace.
Well, They both kinda make the land summoning sick by making it enter tapped, so Sylvan Caryatid is better than both, just because it puts a body on the board that can do the same thing as those tapped lands can do on the next turn.

If you like playing roulette and winning or losing by a big margin then yes Mono-Green Devotion is a good choice.
I don't know why, but I'm always suspicious of people wanting ramp as spells over permanents. I imagine it's because it's harder to interact with, but sylvan caryatid is already hexproof, so is it just a desire for another 2 mana ramp spell? Is hexproof not good enough in a world with verdict and anger? Or is my bias against green based decks just bleeding through to heavily :/? I suppose it could also be a desire for better spells which have been weak lately, but I dunno.

Personally, I'd rather have rampant growth or farseek in the format. For me, I don't want to pay $20+ for the playset of Sylvan Caryatids. 0/3 isn't really that big of a wall, so I don't personally think the card holds up well in combat. And the card is destroyed by sweepers (Mizzium Mortars, Supreme Verdict, Anger of the Gods, Planar Cleansing). I'd much rather have an additional land than a 2 mana creature. 1 drops are different in my book though. Birds of Paradise was very nice when it was in standard. Llanowar Elves and other 1 drop mana dorks are good in my book because of their low investment cost. In the end though, I'd rather have a land over a creature though.

I don't blame you, it's certainly better for non-devotion strategies as well. I really hope they bring back some of the good stuff in khans. Oh and bant control would like rampant way more haha. I forgot about that.

There are many decks which would like to Ramp while also running sweepers, and doing so with mana creatures is painful. Aside from not dying to Anger, Verdict, or Devour Flesh, Rampant Growth has another huge upside over Caryatid; it removes a land from your library. A top docked Caryatid is often completely dead, where as a top decked Ramp spell will pull a second dead card from your library. They also act as shuffle effects for the narrow situations where that is relevant.
They probably wanted a format without one-mana mana dorks so people would have to work a little harder for the monstrosities Theros gives access to. Standard changes. That's its entire appeal. Change with it, or play a nonrotating format.

Really though, can't blame you there if that's the case.
