Ok, I'm fairly new at magic in general and the person that has been teaching me takes advantage of the fact that I am new at the game frequently. Here is my question, if my opponent has fiendslayer paladin out and I kill it, can I then exile it from his graveyard with vile rebirth? My friend says the ability still applies when it is in his graveyard but that has conveniently never been brought up before. Any help would be appreciated.
The static abilities of creatures and other permanents only work when it is on the battlefield, unless they are specifically stated to work in the graveyard or they are characteristic defining abilities. So Fiendslayer Paladin can be targeted by black spells while it is in the graveyard (or any other zone except the battlefield).
