I thought naya hexproof was going to be extremely dominant now that its mana is fixed. I'm kinda surprised it didn't do very good. Not surprised about the top 8, control and mono black make up a massive portion of top 16 decks, there really isn't a good reason not to play them. I wouldn't even say we have a big 4 any more, just the big two. Threats are too weak and answers are multi-lateral now. Don't think I saw a U/W/x deck lose on camera all day, not sure how you beat them. Any deck with green really needs Mistcutter Hydra. Figures I quit playing U/W control to focus on playing bass.
Did firemind's foresight actually see any play? It could be something like that mono-green aggro deck where he had nylea in the main but sided her out every single game. Seems ok, 7 mana is a lot, even in a control deck. Like it's good for getting exact answers but you can only really fetch counterspells, and instants that deal with very small creatures. Would want to see it in action because it seems awful.

Wait mono green player sided out nylea every game. Good god why? The trample it gives fattys is something incould vevet do without. Then again his list is weird. Only one polukranos and arbor colossus but 4 shrines. How does he get devotion or what will h do with the mana when he gets it.

Yea, those are MTG Bars. What can I say, I am a dork
Other than Mana Confluence, there was a grand total of three Journey into Nyx cards in all of the T8 maindecks. Grand total of nine in the entire top 16.

It's a small set. Outside of a few new versions of decks, and maybe Orzhov Aggro becoming a thing (Which didn't this tournament) I doubt we'll see a lot of cards from JOU. We saw the majority of cards we expected to see (Banishing Light, Deicide, Mana Confluence, Temple of Malady/Epiphany), we saw a few surprises (Ur GOD), and we saw a lot of cards in the sideboard with Magma Spray, and Nyx-Fleece Ram.
There's so much removal people struggled to fit Banishing Light in their 75.
Give us some actual threats please Wizards.
Desecration Demon is better than the entire Theros block. That is just a complete design fail for this run of standard. Hopefully there is method to this madness and things get better after rotation.
Black really shouldn't have the biggest, most mana-efficient creature since they literally have everything besides a way to deal with enchantments, and they can easily splash for abrupt decay for the best enchantment hate. I don't think R/G/x is a tier 1 deck anymore, most opens have multiple mono-black and u/w/x in the top 8 and R/G/x often has 1 or none. Like I said the answers we have now are so multi-lateral and our threats are extremely weak. I think naya-hexproof needs to step up and make standard unplayable. They have the mana now, and they can answer any removal spell between hexproof, boros charm, and aegis of the gods.
And that deck with firemind's foresight has 3 burn spells in the 75, and I question how relevant a 2-damage burn spell is turn 7 since U/W/R control is the best U/W/x control deck against aggro decks.
I think a lot of people in this thread overreact after only one tournament where most people seems to have gone conservative. Give some time for players to play more JOU cards and new archetypes. There's 2 dominant decks with UW and monoblack but there's many declinations of those and tons of decks that already shown good results like RW burn, GB dredge, WB humans, Monsters... At least it's not a bloodbraid elf or a caw-blade standard.

Indeed. Most of the new decks that popped up are still very much works in progress. It's very difficult to beat decks that have had 6 months of tuning (I would argue U/W variants have had even *longer* than that, as they were around prior to Theros) and perfecting when the new set has had only 1 week to be played with, and one major tourney at that.
I'm not surprised at all by the results. It's kind of the going rate.

The R/W Burn player on stream tried to be fancy with Eidolon of the Great Revel, and that resulted in his own demise. He should have just stick with Ash Zealot. The only changes R/W Burn needs to make is replace the Boros Guildgate with Mana Confluence and perhaps replace one or two burn spells for Banishing Light. Worked well for me in the first JOU Standard FNM.
Shows you exactly why Mutavault is worth the price it is.
Control decks would have free reign without it.
I'm not really excited about this standard. None of the new cards can compete with the rotating cards. You can tell that just by looking at them, nothing to do with the Nyx cards just coming out.

Currently, U/W Control is splashing either black or red for additional removal. As a R/W Burn player myself, whenever I face U/W/x Control, I rarely find the chance for Mutavault to swing for 2, specifically because losing a land in the first couple of turns can be devastating. And if it gets to longer than that, burn spells and Chandra's Phoenix usually gets the job done. So I'm not sure that Mutavault is worth its current $30 price tag.

What bothers me most about this standard is that the core cards for UW (sphinx, verdict, d-sphere, jace) all are from the same set which is the oldest set in this standard and because of that so powerful core and lack of any other 4cmc unconditionnal sweeper, you have no way to play an old-fashioned control deck outside of UW. But i find this format quite open and deep enough for new strategies to emerge. Too bad the pro-tour is in block constructed we would have seen new decks and strategies from europeans and asians players as well as americans best deckbuilders which is not the case in SCG events.
Just realized firemind's foresight can fetch syncopate for 1 and revelation for 3, actually seems like an amazing card now. It isn't a draw 3, it's a draw 3 amazing and highly relevant cards. Two counterspells and a revelation? good luck with that.

But for know, it looks like standard is not going to change signification at all.
You're either playing into Detention Sphere and Supreme Verdict or you're playing into Thoughtseize and Hero's Downfall or you're playing into Mizzium Mortars and Dreadbore.
