Yeah, this is just like that time when Caw-Blade was was the dominant deck. Just, no variance at all in this metagame. I think Standard is in serious trouble right now. Your ban list is good but we might also want to ban Sylvan Caryatid and Stormbreath Dragon.

you're certainly a man of reason! I say we should keep on *****ing about the format's lack of diversity on these forums, because that might totally accomplish something
It's especially ignorant given the format is reasonably diverse. The "Big 4" is nothing of the sort. There are plenty of viable archetypes in the metagame, and even if there were only four, four is a hell of a lot better than many, many Standards. Last year's summer Standard was about at the same place as this one, with 4-6 premier decks and a host of slightly worse off but good in particular match up decks. Expecting the premier tier of decks to be 5+ is borderline insane, and complaining because your budget home brew keeps getting crushed does not mean Standard is bad.

But complaining is fun.
And I actually don't run a budget deck, I play R/W Burn. It has a favorable matchup against U/W/x Control and Thoughtseize/Pack Rat decks, it is okay against G/R/x Monsters, and no one at my LGS really plays Blue-based devotion, so that's not really a problem.
And Burn is a solid deck, with good matches against a few decks in the field and a few tighter ones. Blue Devotion is, in fact, quite similar. Point is, the format is pretty wide.
If Verdict weren't available, a lot more creature decks would jostle for competitiveness. It's one thing to have Lifebane Zombie strip out your green fatty. It's another to have one spell wipe out a board of 4+ creatures that you needed if you wanted to get past Elspeth's soldier tokens.
That said, it's not like U/W control wins all the time. It's just that it regularly thwomps my Prophet of Kruphix deck.

I would like to just clarify on something. When I first created this thread, I was legitimately not pleased about the dominance of the Big 4. But over time, as the meta became more diverse (see my thread "Does Standard finally have a diverse meta?"), and as I tweaked my deck to become R/W Burn which actually does pretty well against the top tier decks, my complaining as evolved to more of a "make fun of my former self." Just to clarify.
to anyone complaining about this standard I'd like to remember of delver-snapcaster-gesit. God, THAT was awful.

I don't know if anyone has been paying attention to SCG Opens lately, but Mono-Blue has been making a resurgence. Response to earlier posts stating "mono-blue is not a top tier deck".

They say G/W isn't top tier but you don't see me dropping the deck to jump to blue.
I've become 65/35 preboard, 90/10 postboard, against mono blue devotion.
Black-based devotion, BOROS BURN, Blue-based Devotion, and U/W/x Control
^ thats the big 4 not r/g/x monsters
Er... according to what I can find, Jund midrange decks (a variant of G/R monsters) have several top placings alone in the past few weeks at all level of play while burn has a few, with most being mtgo dailies. Its been over a month since burn had a significant finish at a major event (11th at SCG Portland). Jund has just as many, if not more dailies high plaings, with far more highr level finishes as well in the same period. Burn is either under represented or under performing. And this is considering only a single variant of G/R monsters.

Isn't it supposed to be competitive with mono black and UWx control?
Stinky deck is not big 4.

Hushwing Gryff and Skylasher is enough to shut that deck down.
