Hey guys, I'm new to this forum. Actually, this is my first post. I've come here because I need some help making some tweaks to my Black/White Control deck for a tournament this weekend.
The problem I'm facing is regarding my draw spells.
I'm currently running 4 Read the Bones; 3 Main, 1 Side.
I've opted to run Read the Bones over Underworld connections because I'm not running a devotion deck. I feel that Underworld connections under performs when you're trying to find an answer card quickly. Read the Bones allows you to scry 2, draw 2 (potentially giving you the power to dig through 4 cards). As opposed to Underworld Connections which limits you to one card draw per turn (at the expense of 1 life and 1 mana after the initial 3 cost).
The reason I've come here is that after playing a vicious game vs Black Devotion where I sided in Erebos, God of the Dead, I realized I wasn't able to turn him into a creature because I didn't have the devotion necessary. Ultimately, falling a few devotion short cost me the game. On the other hand, I've had plenty of games turned around and won solely due to Read the Bones.
I top 4'd last weekend running a 2-2 split of both cards (Underworld Connections + Read the Bones) but, I often felt like the connections was just dead in my hand.
I'm at a stump as to where to go from here.
Here is my deck list:
Creatures: 12
4x Desecration Demon
3x Blood Baron of Vizkopa
3x Lifebane Zombie
2x Obzedat, Ghost Council
Side Board: 15
3x Doom Blade
3x Pack Rat
2x Sin Collector
2x Erebos, God of the Dead
2x Revoke Existence
1x Duress
1x Read the Bones
1x Obzedat, Ghost Council
I'm also on the fence about what to do with Pack Rat.
I could REALLY use some perspective on the matter. Any input helps, guys.
I really do like Read the Bones over Underworld though. The only time I've ever felt like it didn't fit was that one match where I sided in my 2 Erebos.
I've thought about mainboarding Pack Rat, but I feel like it falls off hard vs. certain match ups; Esper, U/W Control, Red Aggro, etc.
Taking Lifebane Zombie main board gives me vision of my opponents hand and deals with a lot of pesky creatures. It's also great in for sniping Planeswalkers because of intimidate.
On the other hand, let's face it. Pack Rat is one of the MOST DOMINANT creature cards in the format that grows like a weed if left unchallenged. The problem here is that there is so much removal in the format, that Pack Rat has been taken down several pegs.
