MTG Salvation

So, I returned to MTG after years of being to distracted to play the game. I gave myself a challenge for an upcoming FNM:



Buy 2 boosters, use the 2 rares to build a deck. The deck has to use the 1 or 2 colours the rares have, and their activated abilities need to be what the deck is about.
So, I got 2x Born of the Gods boosters. Inside:

fated infatuation
Oracle of Bones

So, what do we have?

Red and Blue, an interesting combo I haven't played with yet. At least not seriously.

My current plan:

Eternity Snare
Divination
Fall of the Hammer


This is what I have so far, ofcourse other cards will be added.


And getting the Blazing Beasts of Myth intro deck for some good red cards.

I haven't yet played with standard, and since all my cards are all Myr era or the Kaldra era, I am completely card less. What do you guys think? Can such a deck work for casual FNM games?

Without knowing what cards you have I'd hate to build a deck you don't have the cards to, so what I did was take the Manipulative Monstrosities Intro Pack and jam it together with the Blazing Beast of Myth deck. That way it shouldn't be too hard to acquire the cards you need.



That deck is pretty basic, easy to acquire, and not half bad. It's not great of course, but for $25 bucks its alright.

Those are actually two excellent cards that haven't really been explored yet. The obvious weakness is that you can't really run these cards in the same deck together because their weighted mana costs will make sure you often can never cast either card in a normal game. That being said, Oracle of Bones's triggered ability is an amazing combo with Fated Infatuation creating another Oracle that gives you another trigger. It's like a bigger, hasty Burning Tree Emissary.

The kind of deck you should build should either Abuse Oracle's ability of free spells, or abuse fated infatuations unique Ability of instant speed cloning.

I could see an aggro control deck with Oracle and other hasty creatures. Hypersonic Dragon is an excellent, cheap creature not being played atm. Both Oracle and dragon synergize with spells. Could have spells like Opportunity and Firemind's Foresight, Fated Conflagration to abuse with your oracle. Along with core aggro-control spells like Lightning Strike and Divination. Theres a nice curve of Shock/Rapid Hybridization> Frostburn Weird/Lightning Strike/Disperse> Divination/Act of Treason> Oracle of Bones/Fated Conflagration/Clone> Hypersonic Dragon> Opportunity.

When they catch on to this Oracle strategy you can switch to a more aggressive plan when they give you a 5/3 haster for 4. Can bring in more burn spells like Magma Jet and Shock. More creatures like Satyr Nyx-Smith, maybe even Satyr Firedancer. Honestly fated Infatuation is an amazing card but I don't see you casting it much outside of the oracle trigger. It can still be a one-of in your deck, have interesting synergies with Nyx Smith, firedancer, and oracle, but Oracle is a lot more reliable for interesting synergies. Basically it's much easier to hit 2 red on turn 4 than 3 blue on any turn.

There's a deck here, a pretty cheap one actually, could be very fun.

Current deck idea:



Why this? Because at the moment, I really don't have the chance to buy seperate cards. These are from different 2 different intro decks. One I have (The White Blue Born of the Gods intro) and the Red blue from Theros.

You have about 8-10 cards (depending on bestow and including geyser) that require 5 or more mana so running 20 lands is not nearly enough. I have to say Eternity Snare is just a terrible, terrible card. Turn 6 really defines the game and if you're tapping out to keep one of their monsters tap you most likely lost. I can appreciate you are the constraints of your very small cardpool, but virtually anything would be better than that card. And I'm cringing at the sight of 4 Fated Infatuation. With your mana pool you'll almost never cast that card. With that specific mana pool you ideally hit 3 mana then no more which often happens. If you manage to hit 3 blue mana with that pool you wont be able to play half your deck.
I'm telling you even with dual lands fated Infatuation is extremely difficult to cast. Even when the new temples come out you'll still miss it.
Other than that there's really no advice given. Without knowledge of your cardpool and your unwillingness to even buy penny singles, there's no more advice I can give.

I'm currently playing around with a UW/Bant deck using fated infatuation with populate cards like growing ranks, footwork defense, and legendary creatures just because. Daxos of Meletis makes for an interesting cloned army.

Ok this is why I think people lie on here a lot. There's no way you are regularly casting fated infatuation in a 3 color deck, and you can't clone daxos because he is legendary, you would instantly have to sacrifice one of them and waste a card.

^ I prefer to give them the benefit of the doubt and take statements like that to mean they have a deck idea involving such and such but haven’t legitimately playtested it as yet…

It's still an experiment, but the pieces are in a UW control shell. But good thing to know, since I can't find anumber ruling online for legendary and fated infatuation tokens. I'll put the decklist here in a bit to show what I've currently got.



Edit: the latest take on this. Lands are gonna change to make better use of the portion of hybrid mana symbols, and the creature count is gonna probably be halved to fit in more lands and spells.
