OK guys, I want to ask you what would you do in this situation;
I have very little money right now, and only a handful of money rares (basically a RDW deck that includes Boros Reckoner, Ash Zealot, etc). I wanted to build a new deck through selling all my cards and starting fresh and hopefully with some money. However after searching through the competitive decks there is only 4 ones that pop up frequently. All of these decks are super expensive (and I mean super as I live in Australia were every card costs like double)and I find the standard meta game pretty boring - either getting bashed slowly by mutavaults or having everything good thought-seized away on T1. Also with soccer season starting up I probably won't have time to go to many tournaments ;(. So my options are these; invest in standard right now ;(, or wait for Journey to Nyx/Rotation and hope the new cards shake the meta game up a bit. If I do invest in a current standard deck which one should it be?
Also in my town modern is only held once a month so thats not really an option ;(
Mono-Black is one of the cheaper decks but still is one of the top decks. It has all around good and even matchups and game against everything.
UW/x-Control decks are on the same level but they cost more than twice as much as Mono-Black does so I think they are out of question for you.
GR Monster is a good deck but it has several weakness like having basically no removal and being susceptible against removal/tempo plays since it relies on 4-5 mana creatures to win the game. It's also not cheap because of all the Mythic Rares like the planeswalkers and creatures.
Mono-Blue is still a solid, powerful deck and it costs roughly the same as Mono-Black but it has not all around good matchup like Mono-Black does I wouldnt buy into it unless you like the deck and the way it plays.
If you are only looking for the cheapest deck that has game against everything, Mono-Black is the answer.
If you want to invest now is your personal choice. All I can say is that Black Thoughtseize decks and Blue/White Sphinx's Revelation decks are going nowhere until rotation in October. They are far too good and powerful to be pushed out by something. Dont expect that Journey into Nyx will shake thing up dramatically besides making existing decks better.
Conceivably the only new archetype I see Into the Nyx spawning, which has some good pieces in place presently but not enough to push it into contention, is a W/x enchantment aggro deck. Hero of Iroas, Hopeful Eidolon, Ethereal Armor and Eidolon of Countless Battles need a little more support. Hero of Iroas and Eidolon of Countless Battles are real cheap right now and would of course spike in value if such a deck were to become viable; but of course it's a gamble as to whether that will happen. So if you don't want to go that route, I'd agree that you should invest in mono-black; or just save your money, trade in your RDW pieces for some Theros block staples like Sylvan Caryatid and Hero's Downfall, and wait for rotation.

Love. Forgive. Trust. Be willing to be broken that you may be remade.
If you still want to play when the next block comes out I would recomend buying into monoblack as there are quite a few good cards in Theros Block for mono black
Im sure the next set and next core set will have some good stuff as well. I am sure there will be some sort of 2cmc removal in the next core set as well.
I don't want to invest in a top tier deck myself because of Mutavault.
Next season I'm going to do what I can to buy everything that is used at the fall standard PT. This seems like a sensible theory as Mutavault was sub $20 well after PT Theros.

Downfall $4
Demon $4
Thoughtseize $13
Then pretty much everything else isn't more than a dollar or two.
Removal
Hero's Downfall
Bile Blight
Gild(possibly for gods)
Discard
Thoughtseize
Draw
Read the Bones
Creatures
Gray Merchant of Asphodel
Herald of Torment
Erebos, God of the Dead
Devotion Enabler/Reanimator
Whip of Erebos
Than if you are going the aggro route you have Pain Seer, Tormented Hero, possibly Nighthowler and Mogis's Marauder
Im sure the next set and next core set will have some good stuff as well. I am sure there will be some sort of 2cmc removal in the next core set as well.
Cash? Credit? Gold? or Jace?
