I think a lot of things are printable in standard that would be great everywhere else but only okay here. This card could be solid. I don't know much of modern but I guess I could see this being a great tempo card (since everyone else seems to say that, it makes sense) but a lot of control games in standard want to go long so I don't think it would be too realistic of a card to effectively play in pure control. Def an option tho. I guess okay in modern? meh. (ive played a little so this could def be plausible)
I'd be fine with Force Spike in Standard when they reprint Birds of Paradise. Getting under a T2 Domri for example is one of the merits people are talking about, but right now that's actually probably the only way green has any hope of beating a blue control matchup. The thing is T2 Domri is so rare given only 4 1 mana accelerators and all teh scry lands. More likely than not it's counter T2 Caryatid or like T3 Domri (although Syncopate could do this). With the Scry lands Force Spike seems especially good. Maybe with Mana Confluence this becomes less of an issue for certain decks, but I don't think it makes sense to print a card like Force Spike until there are additional cheap ways to ramp past it. Still I think Wizards has heen in the habit of not printing counters that are good early against aggro. I think Force Spike makes it very easy to curve on counterspells generally. I find it much more likely they reprint a card like Spell Pierce than Force Spike for that reason since I don't think think they want to encourage countering creatures for 1 mana.
