I am just wondering, would you like to see Force Spike in Standard (and subsequently Modern)? Its white counterpart, Mana Tithe is legal in Modern. Also, in regards to Standard, it currently has six cards that are conditional "counter target spell unless you pay x mana," with the closest version being Stymied Hopes, which is just Force Spike with 1 more mana and a scry 1. So Wizards obviously deems this type of counterspell to be okay in Standard. What do you think?
I wouldn't really mind it once rev and verdict rotate. Can't give one thing all the toys at once but post rotation, I certainly wouldn't mind seeing some tempo.
Being an Rx aggro player in Standard, it would be annoying but I can deal with it. For Modern, as a Zoo player, it would likewise be annoying, but I already have to face a lot more powerful counterspells than Standard so it's all right. Now, as a UR Delver player, it would be awesome to have a conditional 1 CMC counter any spell.
Actually I think it would have hardly impact on Standard, like Syncopate is way better in this format than Force Spike is.
There's literally only 2 cirumstances I can think of Spike being better:
If you're on the play against MBD and they T1 thoughtseize, Spike > Synco for 0
If you're on the draw and facing RG and they go T1 elf, T2 Domri
I don't know modern well enough to comment but I imagine it's a bit better, the whole format is about playing busted 2 drops right?
Syncopate is pretty different from force spike, leaving no reason to compare. There's a few extra bonuses in the matter. Syncopate doesn't do anything for 1 mana. Force spike always does something for 1 mana and only does things with 1 mana, meaning that you are more free to play other things. Whereas syncopate, its all about how much open mana you have compared to them. Force spike on the play stops a one drop. Syncopate can't under any circumstances. Simply, force spike is faster and has a faster expiration date. Syncopate only works in draw go since you have to have at least 2 mana up to make it work and if you want to make it last, you have to keep a fair amount up afterwards. It plays very different from force spike where you do your thing, leave 1 mana, and let them decide to walk into it or play around it.
Why do people think Force Spike is a control card? Just because it is blue does not mean it goes into control decks. Force Spike is, and always will be, a tempo card. You play it to punish decks that want to tap out every turn and to make sure you get the most out of your mana while keeping your opponent from being allowed to use theirs
Look at the decks Daze sees the most play in (Merfolk, Delver, Thresh, etc). The goal of tempo decks is to gain incremental advantage, and cards like Force Spike (which is a stupidly efficient card if used correctly) are a great way to do that.
Having said all that, I don't think there's much of a demand for that sort of effect outside of maybe Monoblue Devotion. However, Judge's Familiar is probably just plain better in that deck. Maybe after it rotates
Well, judge's familiar won't be "plain better" as force spike can catch planeswalkers like turn 2 domri rade on the draw and turn 1 aggro creature whatever on the play. Etc, etc.

Which is precisely a very good reason to have him in UR Delver.

Sure. Question though, would it do anything? I'm skeptical of it doing anything. Daze isn't played all that much in legacy and is a lot better than force spike. I'm a fan of the card in general, but I'm skeptical of it doing much of anything.

"Yawgmoth," Freyalise whispered as she set the bomb, "now you will pay for your treachery."
...it's true. Decks with the card: UWR Delver, merfolk, BUG Delver, and RUG Delver. Miracles doesn't want it. Shardless BUG doesn't want it. Basically the card belongs in tempo decks and nothing else.

I know, that was my point. Pretty much every tempo deck in the format runs it
I'd like Lightning Bolt and Lightning Helix in standard though...
Force spike wouldn't hurt too much in standard though, it's not as destructive as a thoughtseize and pay 1 won't be too bad :/ unless you are playing small aggro of course

Me: Oh no you don't!
I mean, if Thoughtseize is okay for a Standard print, I don't see why Force Spike shouldn't be as well.
Force Spike is pure joy. I wonder if control decks would cut back on CIPT lands to maximize it.
Wat?
