Yeah, I agree that Membrane it really more for big beaters that are tough to handle, or utility creatures that tap for an ability. It can be a replacement for Curse of Chains, but Curse does have the advantage of hitting Guardian of the Guildpact
And Analysis can easily replace Gush for some players. I know there's a divide in players liking and hating Gush, so Analysis can be used for those that don't like Gush.

That's a link to a list that did well in a MTGO event, but my read of the question is not how much it would cost to build a MTGO list in paper, but rather whether a paper list would differ from a MTGO list. That in turn depends on your meta. I build commons-only lists with the Legacy banlist for my casual kitchen table meta, so I use Cloud of Faeries but not Gush. What you can use depends on what your events allow. If they go off the MTGO banlist (and many do), then the MTGO lists will be a good starting point.
