Recently, I saw a friends causual deck. There was a card I had heard a lot about, but it never really impressed me. Then I got to play with the card and instantly fell in love with it.
Trinket Mage
So, Im planing to make pauper deck about it as isnt good enough for legacy, modern or extended.
i think perhaps a bit too much equipment.. there was actually a successful DimirTrinket deck out there fyi... also think you're a bit too focused on the fact that the trinket mage can fetch artifacts... one of the big things the DimirTrinket did well was it used other cards for control instead of just piling in a bunch of things you can search for.. for instance the servitors, they're really not that great... sure you can get them out with the mage, but they won't hold up against most creatures out there and most of the time I imagine you'd rather find something better for your situation then say a chump blocker
You can see the card synergy: plunk the Viridian Longbow on either a Typhoid Rat or a Rendclaw Trow for creature control. It's a bit slow though, I feel. It takes a total of four mana to equip the longbow to a creature -- one to cast it, three to equip. It's still a fun deck, even though it gets a hosed by Post decks. But which deck doesn't?
Does anyone think the apprentice engine works? Or is it just too cute? I thought it could be something for the late game with Chitteribg rats, to lock down storm and people from drawing, Mulldrifter to draw an extra card each turn, and trinket to get a lot of cogs.
Too cute? Be McGuyver: use your resources: if apprentice works, use it, right? haha
You could slow down an Infect player with that card too, make them wait out another turn. That is if you can plop the apprentice down first turn, then on the second turn lay an island down and bounce their Glistener Elf back on top of their library. It's probably not a mechanic to hinge your whole strategy on, but it's a tool worth, at least, brewing around with.
Huh, I actually read the apprentice as a familiar and didn't really pay attention to it. Can't really see comboing with it; there aren't any comes into play effects that are worth giving up your draw phase that I can think of. It's pretty cute with evoked mulldrifter, but that's still 2UU to draw one card. In a casual deck that'll work as a fun card advantage engine, but a serious deck will run you over while you're doing that.
