My son and I decided to brew up a casual format made out of other formats so we could play a lot of cards that sit around in bulk boxes. For now we call it MAGS shortened from its "format" above.
Rules are the same as any other Magic duel except with the following parameters.
1. "Artisan" means commons and uncommons only. (No rares or mythics)
2. Modern cardpool AND ban list. (just commons and uncommons of course)
3. 1 card of any non basic land (the singleton part) per deck.
4. NO sideboards (the Gladiator part)
5. Best of 1 or Best of 3 agreed upon before a game starts.
6. 60 card deck, start at 20 life.
So far its been fun and the play experience is different for sure. Slower, trickier to play and very tempo based so far. Its a cheap format and has elements of Commander/Brawl and regular Magic. If you like fast paced high powered decks this format isn't for you. If you like cheaper, casual, thought provoking, more creature based play give it a whirl and let me know what you think. Sometimes its fun to go off format and play with these cardboard squares sitting around taking up space.
NOTE: This could also be PAGS, LAGS, SAGS or VAGS depending on which base format you may decide on. (Although a couple of those sound a bit rude)
Playing since 1994: Currently MAGS (HomeBrew),Standard & Pauper (Pioneer and Modern are degenerate trash formats)
STOP using "dude/bro" as a pejorative or insult. Grow up.
Margaret Thatcher: “The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.”
Benjamin Franklin: "Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety."
Martin Luther King Jr.: "I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character."

Pretty fun and again adjust to your liking. Cards are cheap and you get to play cards that see no use in other formats. Enjoy.

Have been thinking about a variant of this variant that would allow you ONE (singular) Rare or Mythic Creature used as a Companion. Effectively making it a 61 card deck.
Companion rules would be followed. 3 mana to put into your hand. No build drawbacks. Companion MUST be a creature. Actual cards with companion mechanic are banned from the format. No no Lurrus, Yorion, etc. If the companion dies it goes to the graveyard, unless otherwise indicated.
Would actually give meaning to the term rare of mythic if you are allowed one.
Just a thought and I may try it out.
