If you are a fan of co-op games and love Magic (well, you should love Magic, you are on this forum), I may have the game for you. I have just released the 3rd Edition of my RPG variant 'Planeswalker'.
Planeswalker takes Magic: The Gathering and infuses it with roleplaying aspects. To play, players create a planeswalker using the creation rules (32 races to chose from, over 60 special abilities, and different attributes that govern their ability to cast spells). Based on the planeswalker they have created, they then construct their own Magic decks. The planeswalkers then adventure taking on automated dungeon decks looking to defeat the menaces of the land. Being successful is rewarded with new spells (cards) to add to their existing deck or items that affect their planeswalker’s abilities. As planeswalkers gain levels, they can cast more and more powerful spells and gain more traits that help them in battle.
Basically, think of a WoW Raid except you level up your character like an RPG and the raid is automated, so no one needs to be the 'bad guy' (although you can have someone be the game master and be the bad guy if your prefer!).
Check it out and let me know your thoughts, thanks!

EDIT: Got a lot of requests for direct links so I have added them below.
Just wanted to add some samples of cards you will see in 3rd Edition. Below is a boss (you defeat bosses to go further in the dungeon), a fragment (Each boss leaves a fragment behind that makes the dungeon harder as you go), a sample of a scheme card (bosses use these like in archenemy along with spells), and a legendary item example (you can get items that increase your planeswalker's abilities as treasure).
Interesting. I like some of the concepts you guys have, but I think I like my version a little more. However, I do like the time and effort you guys put into having pictures. Keep up the good work!
I gonna try that with friends.
My Territory War is only good for many players... now I need something for a smaller group^^
Since I started lately with Pen&Paper, this variant catched my sight.
But it seems hard to get in the beginning. is the somewhere a example of the planeswalker creation, with choosing race and setting attributes?
I'm really bad in learning stuff by just reading the ruls... i learn with examples/pictures or videos >.<
greez evi
Edit: Did read the rules a while... I'm not sure how the stuff with Gems and treasure works.
Could you maybe, if possible, send me a pm with a reeealy short example how to set up shop/treasure and gems(or optional without gems but the replacement)?
I think the rest I did more or less get with Planeswalker/deck creation and how the dungeon works.

Hi Evul, I sent you a PM to try and answer some of your questions.

Hey, awesome stuff, tho the character builder doesnt automatically add +1 Spark for Human racial bonus and doesn't allow it to be manually adjusted either

3WWU, 2GWW, and 4RWW! These were the mana costs chosen to summon the perfect little angel! But Professor Avacyn accidentally added an extra ingredient to the concoction! Chemical x Thus, the Powerpuff Girls were born! Using their ultra super powers, Gisela, Bruna, and Sigarda have dedicated their lives to fighting crime and the forces of evil!
So. ...I'm assuming the player can also shuffle their graveyards back into the library? Or do we just lose? Since we can't mill the Boss the death then it can't mill us to death, right?
edit: I have found in the Gameplay section: "The players lose if they are reduced to zero life or have a number of poison counters equal to or greater than half of their initial life total." So I don't know about getting to shuffle our cards back in from the graveyard, but I'm gonna play like not being able to draw a card doesn't kill us at least.
If similar depth as the character creation was used, but a version made that actually consists of board movement w/ creatures and summoners sprinkled around maps (at least when a map is intended to be dangerous) I would wet myself

I have a non-Office program that handles Excel files, but everything but THAT works

I used the misc column to adjust for these since the character sheet wasn't completely finished, although the character sheet has still been extrememly useful for keeping track of everything
Regarding the Legendary Magic Items, it is unclear to me as to how we acquire them; should we add them to the treasure?
If I got that right, you can buy them in the shop for gold.

and price for minor or major Item is on page 23 somewhere in the middle ^.^

Seriously, a Magic RPG with movement would be terrific and I do love the character creation for this one

Thanks all for the great discussion, I appreciate it! I'll try to help with a couple things.
-The spreadsheet does work correctly in Office, but it sounds like some of the formulas do not work appropriately in non-Office programs. I will see if I can't simplify it to make it work.
-Legendary items can be found via rolling on the treasure table for the Magic Shop or loot from a dungeon (granted, you need to roll pretty darn well, but htey are supposed to be very special and powerful). Good call on not having how much they cost/sell for, I will need to add that.
-I have toyed with making this more of a 'boardgame/tactical RPG' but came to the conclusion that it would be very difficult to balance abilities for Magic cards and how they work in a 'map' environment (whereas Magic cards are 'balanced' more or less automatically, and just the dungeon needs to be blanaced against them). Not saying it is not possible or it won't happen of course!
Oh, thank you, glad to see some feedback. That's the only letdown is that my expectation was so high for a map-based Magic the Gathering xP lol It seems a lot like the work that went into making this would have to go to a separate project to get that done. I've been trying it all out in my head, and best I can come up with is character system (VERY similar to yours) that limits (and adds specialty with) certain colors and types of cards, so that playing involves your character as a playable character with stats with which to fight, however, "abilities" would come in the form of creature summoning, enchantments, spells, etc, so that it's not necessarily a game of Magic, but just a game where Magic cards double as your spells/abilities. Also, Flying would be balanced for maps, Reach could increase range of attacks, etc. The definition of "Blocking" however eludes me for this purpose. I've just in general really wanted a Skyrim styled, Magic themed video game or something where you could travel planes and do things so much more Vorthos style (walk around locations forging mana bonds to use later for mana for spells, deciding to join a guild in Ravnica, get temporary Theran god "blessings", etc) and a well-made RPG would be the most practical way to see the customization and roleplaying.
