Hey there Frontier crusaders.
I'm planning on rocking as many side events as possible at GP Toronto and I saw there are Frontier daily events. I haven't been able to play the format because none of my local storeowners care about it, but I'm excited to finally try it out. I've been brewing up a little but I'm just not sure what kind of meta to expect. Any Toronto players know what sort of decks are dominating or is it fairly diverse?
At a 1k we'll have 30 people show up on 22 different decks.
I can't prepare you for all of the decks you might see but here are the decks that I expect to be at the top tables:
-Saheeli Combo (Jeskai Black and Temur White).
-Abzan aggro, multiple flavors.
-Green Black Scales.
-Grixis Control.
-Some version of BGX Turbo Emrakul.
-Atarka Red has been absent recently but is primed for a come back, I would expect to see it at GP Toronto.
-Mono white humans.
-Bant Coco.
There will be other decks and it will be impossible to prepare for all of them, but these are the ones you *NEED* to beat if you have any shot of top 8ing.
I was referring to the decks I expect to see at the top tables.
Ensoul will show up, but if it's at the top tables I will eat my shoe. It's a deck that can steal wins with a blistering fast opener, but it's too inefficient in it's use of cards. With fatal push and K-Command floating around and Crackling Doom on the rise... Ensoul is asking to get 2 for 1d (or worse) and doesn't go meaningfully faster than Atarka Red or mono-white.
Ensoul is a bad deck. It won't top 8. There are similarly fast aggro decks that are less all in on hoping your opponent doesn't have a way to kill your creatures.
