I don't think they really want to test for it or balance for it. To them Block and limited is basically the same thing.
The Q/A feed was sad/funny yesterday if you checked it out. "We think it's best if the pro's highlight standard". The commentary for the coverage was so bad in this regard. "Lets see what they build" Oh G/B Self Mill. Didn't see that coming lol. Everything is planted in the set.
They might not kill it, just give it the Pauper treatment, IE slow painful death of no daily events cause they can be abused by grinders.

Out of the blackness and stench of the engulfing swamp emerged a shimmering figure. Only the splattered armor and ichor-stained sword hinted at the unfathomable evil the knight had just laid waste.
I turned off the Q/A chat after a few answers since it was boring PR speak.
If they don't need to spend time balancing block, let's hope they make a better standard. The last year of standard was dominated by 3-4 decks, which were represented in the PT a year ago.
Does anyone have the quote where mtgo is supposed to mirror/not mirror paper? I forget what their game plan is. But if they want to mirror paper you can kiss block good bye.
Seems like WotC wants to kill all the formats except standard and limited, which is a terrible idea. Wouldn't be surprised if block never had a pro tour again.
If they can make standard like it was 8 years ago/ravnica timespiral I'm all for it. If not? Worst idea ever.

I spoke with Forsythe at the PT. While block isn't dead per se (unlike Extended), it is not going to receive further competitive/professional level support.
It's functionally just going to be a MODO format and nothing else.
Just got to say, you've definitely earned distinction as an MTGS hero

Because he's the hero MTGS deserves, and the one it needs right now. So we'll global him. Because he can take it. Because he's not just our hero. He's a silent guardian, a watchful protector. An expired rascal.

ExpiredRascals you sir are a god-like hero.

Move it to the MODO forum then next to Pauper?
It'll be interesting to see how horrible it ends up if they don't actually properly support it, 'block' could end up being a mess with one or two viable decks, especially now that there will no longer be pro teams spending time to investigate the format properly.
Grinders usually had the format solved way before the pro's did which was part of the issue. WotC didn't feel there was enough room for the pro's to innovate with the limited card pool so they pushed them back to standard.
I can only assume that they 1) won't be testing it. 2) Will be happy to snap ban if people whine enough, AKA Lingering Souls which spent a lot less time as a dominate deck than 50% wolfier at the end of the season. If they had both been legal we might have had some diversity.

I don't think grinders solved the format. At PT AVR, there was miracles, naya mid range, spirits and hexproof decks. Then at the block GP after the PT, Kibler broke out jund, and the mtgo meta was 90% jund.
Although when the block format was only ISD and DKA, the format was 90% lingering souls, no pros were involved with that. Then WotC had to ban lingering souls and intangible virtue.
But Kibler's jund deck was the reason they limited DE results. The GP was late May, and a month later they stopped posting all the results.
I don't think they've actively tested block for a few years now. I'll see what they do on MTGO when Khans drops. If we have daily events then this can stay here. If we have "weekend daily events" then we might as well move it to MTGO.

MaRo mentioned Block Constructed in his article today about the block format shakeup, so at least they're recognising the format. Personally with the exception of this particular (Theros) SSB, Single Set Block is one of my favorite times of the year. Now it happens twice. This forum is dead for the most part all summer because the format is solved and its just grinders bumping decks to capture EV. Now it won't be.

Yep, I was pretty excited to read that block was going to be continued to be supported. So long as there's no naya monsters that dominates every block like single theros block, it'll be great.

Nope. I'm surprised they didn't delete that tweet. Although I guess incompetence from Mtgo shouldn't surprise anyone.
