I've been strictly drafting on MTGO for about a year now being the limited junky that I am. Lately, I've been getting the itch to give it a shot at standard though.
My question is, what kind of competition can I expect in the 8 and 2 man queues? I'll try to run a daily or premier when I can, but for the most part, I think my schedule will primarily limit me to the queues.
What's the meta like for both standard and block? Can i expect to play a tier one deck every match or are there a fair amount of people with budget or rogue brews? I have about 100 tix to invest initially into my deck. Wondering if it's worth starting in block constructed vs standard as well.
Even in Standard queues, at least 90% of opponents are playing a tier one/tier two deck, though in queues there is a much higher preference for cheap aggro decks.
For Standard if you don`t have any cards you are looking at $200 plus for most decks. It might not hurt to hold off until BotG`s is out for a little bit unless you pick something really safe like Mono B.
Block is Naya, 81.86% and costs just shy of $200 to make.
Ugh! Had no idea Naya made up such a large portion of the meta. That doesn't sound like much fun. The U/W Heroic deck looks like it only costs 6 tix to put together, but I want something I can win with.
I'll take your advice and wait to see how BotG shakes things up. Cheers!
I can't speak for block, but Standard is highly competitive on MTGO. The meta is fairly well established and reported daily (mtgo-stats.com) so you can take a well-positioned rogue deck in and do well occasionally. Which is basically all I ever do.
Hey guys, let's play a game of Naya the Gathering!
I never played block, so I didn't know the metagame was that bad. Is it always like this?
It was more diverse earlier, but over the last month or two Naya has taken over, started out as GR.
Usually block isn`t this bad. Plus it usually gets better as more sets are released.
As for quality of players. Block might be higher than Standard overall. Think more people may be trying to grind in block, whereas Standard you can still run into average players more often.
