Epilogue -
It was a pretty wild weekend. Devastated to not at least cash. But there’s more tournaments around the corner so it's not the worst feeling. I’m almost certainly heading to Kobe in May, so here’s to hoping that I can rep the boys in green much better then. I’ve been very disappointed in Lead the Stampede in the board, mostly because I never draw it! I’m likely going to experiment with one Lifecrafter and Nissa, Vital Force in the board after seeing it do a lot of work.
If push comes to shove, then I’ll default back to Lead but for the mean time, I might as well experiment.
Hope it was readable.
First of all, thanks for the report. Very insightful. I was enthusiastic about lead the stampede but according to what you say you had bad luck not drawing them...i think it's bad luck. Every time i included and got the card it was a breath of fresh air and got like 4-5 creatures in my hand due to it. I don't know if bestiary is better or not but...i want to know what real purpose you have not to include them. I particularly use 1x lead the stampede mainboard but im thinking about adding some more on the SB. Can you give me more reasons why are you not considering them any longeR?

I mean if you read it, it says I just have some free time (ie: 3 months) to experiment with new cards before I head out to Kobe. Chances are that my gut's suspicions are correct and Lifecrafter isn't good enough, and that I'll inevitably go back to it.
Very self aware that not drawing a card doesn't mean its bad - just wish I woulda drawn them >0 times this weekend when it mattered.

Yeah i do think lead is better in all ways. Haven't tested it but in theory i don't think bestiary is better. And many good players here where i play concur. Tell us about the experimentations and lets see if it works. Im getting the bestiaries these days so i will be checking them out as well.
I'm not here to stir the pot by any means, but my initial test with the pokedex went great this last weekend. I think the value of a permanent that allows you to scry every turn and draw off every creature cast should be considered. I won a couple games this weekend because I was able to load my hand, widen my board, and draw some companies all in the same turn.
Far from stirring the pot. It's good to see that new cards are being tested and evaluated, the only way to see what works and what doesn't.
I tested a 4x CoCo/2x Bestiary/2x Chord split on Monday and can chalk up 3 game wins to a resolved Bestiary. Especially shined against Jeskai Nahiri since they had no way to remove it and it put a serious strain on their removal spells. Less effective against BGx/Grixis due to their access to Abrupt Decay/Maelstrom Pulse/Kolaghan's Command but luckily they didn't draw any.
Hey all,
Just wanted to put my voice in for the Copperhorn Scout. I have been testing him lately and he seems to cut a whole turn off our kills. For instance:
T1: Copperhorn Scout
T2: dork, heritage druid, tap all three, archdruid
T3: chord for ezuri, untap archdruid, overrun
That is 15 damage on turn 3. I know this is the best case scenario, but no other one drop seems to create that much speed. He generally allows you to chord for ezuri on your turn and activate him the same turn. Shines with Chord.
EDIT: fixed the math.
If you haven't tested it, try it out in place of Nettle Sentinel. You might be surprised at the results.
Of course that is the nuts. No argument there. My point is that with Copperhorn, you have the ability to use chord on turn 3 and still overrun. My point is that if you assume it replaces nettle sentinel, it extends our reach a bit.
T1: Land, elvish mystic
T2: Land, heritage druid, Copperhorn scout , Tap 3 dorks cast Archdruid
T3: Land, Ezuri, tap archdruid you are adding 5 mana and use overruns ezuri abillity, you then attack with everything you can (copperhorn included) and untap creatures (still attacking), tap archdruid again and overrun twice while attacking (still 5 mana because of 5 elves in play) thats: (3 dorks (2/2 + 2/2 + 2/2 which obtain +6+6 and trample from x2 overrun))
Fantastic report Syreal. I am going to Kobe as well since it is an hour away from my house. Let me know if you want to meet up! I am, of course, taking my beloved Elves to the event.

Looking forward to meeting you.
I look forward to it! Pretty excited because its probably my last foreign flight for Magic in a while.
Hey been following this thread for a few weeks now, thought I would post a quick tournament report with my first run with gb elves. Ended 2-2, Unfortunately 1 of those wins was against the bye. Playing very similar list to Syreal.
Match 1 : Budget infect - lose 1-2.
Kept a bad hand in first game, lose on their turn 3 or 4.
Win second game with spellskite out moving the target of his pump spells.
Lose race in game 3.
No melira hurt.
Match 2: Rb enchantment brew.lose 0-2
game 1 get ensnaring bridged. Couldn't draw a shaman to push through damage.
game 2 : Pretty close, couldn't draw any anchanment hate after getting inquisition ed a few times.
Match 3: food and beer.
Match 4: Red black goblins.Win 2-0.
Unfair match once I sided essence warden.
I did have 1 questions though. How bad of a hand should we keep when mulling? Still trying for 3 mana on turn 2 for example?
Played fnm this week with an Abzan elves list. Went 3-1
Round 1 - Bring to light scapeshift/valakut
Lost game 1 pretty quick. Won game 2 and 3 mostly just because I was faster than the other guy. Win
Round 2 - Bant Eldrazi
Won game one after the other guy tilted when I chorded for selfless spirits with his engineered explosives going off. "How do you beat mainboard spirit" he said. "It's not even an elf!". Guy was very mad. Won game 2 by double shaman off CoCo. Win
Round 3 - Titanshift/valakut
Lost game 1 and 2. Terrible hands against nut draws. Loss
Round 4 - Mono Black Devotion
Won game 1 pretty handily. Game 2 the guy played blood moon with me only having 1 basic forest. Responded with CoCo, shaman and ezuri followed by overrun next turn.
Overall, 3-1. I really like the current meta for elves. Selfless spirits won me one round and the other tech gives us a lot of answers for other decks. I also like that no one really plans for elves since it isn't as popular. It will remain my modern deck for the time being.
I am currently looking for a 2nd modern deck for when there is lots of graveyard-hate in the meta. The main question I have is, is canopy/ cavern an auto-include for all decks? Are there any good versions of elves that actively choose not to include them in their lists?
Finally, I found this really cool list online (https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/576238#_=_) and I was wondering what u guys thought of it. I like that that it isn't 'all in' combo, it can play fairly if the combo is disrupted.
In Abzan builds, what's the superior choice: Path to Exile or Fatal Push? Assuming you run fetches too.
I'd take Path all day over Push. If we decide we need to interact so badly that it's worth bringing in removal, I think we want it to be as robust as possible. I'd also probably run Dismember over Push FWIW.

Hi and welcome to the thread! This one has been asked a fair amount recently, so I'm likely going to write a guide on it tonight/tomorrow (using the GB stock list), along with an advanced Thoughtseize guide that can likely be slotted into the primer.
What I can say right now is that its matchup dependant, but in 99.98% of game 1 situations look for great goldfish hands. These usually include fast mana, a payoff and ideally a company.

(1+1+1)+(1+1+1)+(2*3*3)=24
That is 24 damage, not 15.
so far, it has surprised me in my testing.
How are you overrunning 2 times on turn 3?
T2: Land, heritage druid, Copperhorn scout , Tap 3 dorks cast Archdruid

If i am not mistaken..24 dmg
