You consider UW Control and Eldrazi Tron bad? My record argues otherwise. Heck, even my results against Company are pretty good, though that one's more of a race.
Hi, I have a question for you guys if you don't mind.
When do you mull for a Aether Vial?
I'll give some concrete examples, would be great to hear what some experienced players with the deck would do. Obviously, assume in all these cases you have the correct amount of land, obviously you will mull really bad hands.
1. Draw no Vials, no 1-drop creatures, but have multiple 2-drop creatures.
2. Draw no Vials, a 1-drop creature, some other creatures.
3. Draw a Vial, no 1-drop creates, some 2-drop and other creatures.
4. Draw two Vials.
5. Draw three Vials.
Also, what do you consider the best hand? I would think 1 Vial, a 1-drop creature, at least one 2-drop creature, and a 2-3 lands.
Thanks!
i have never once mulled to look for a vial

1: I love the extra card draw from the Silvergill Adept and Spreading Sea's. They kept the motor going when I drew them. However when I didn't, if I hand't won the game by the time I was out of the cards I typically ended up losing. Are there any recommended ways of drawing more cards or do I simply need to be more explosive so that by the time I'm out of the cards I've won?
2: Harbinger of the Tides. I see the potential and his flash bit is quite neat. But I rarely found myself in the spot with four mana open and typically would have prefered having a Vapor Snag in hand. I know it costs more card slots, so maybe this is a poor idea, but I was considering pulling them for Coralhelm Commanders. They give me another cheap body to get on the field and they have the potential to be another Lord pumping things. Though with Fatal Push about, perhaps that's not a great idea.
3: Merrow Reejeery. He/She is sweet. I don't have any complains about it's cost or ability. However I was wondering why not diversify with one's unblockable options? Islandwalk is great and giving to everyone is also great but I was wondering last night if Lord of Atlantis/Master of the Pearl Trident were enough to consider swapping the Reejeery's with Merfolk Sovereign's? That way I could still plink damage through if I'm waiting for that Spreading Sea's.
4: Elves. So, that was an experiance. How does a small creature swarm army beat a bigger and faster swarm? With everything else I played against I was in with a chance but with Elves I was blitzed off the board so quickly. It was amazing to watch but next time I'd like to put up at least a little resistance.
5: Kira. Are people main boarding her or side boarding her? I didn't see a lot of creature kill hate, mostly hand disruption so I'm wondering about her value.
1. Smuggler's Copter is an option if you like drawing gas.
2. Harbinger is usually played alongside Snag so we don't lose to Burn or Death's Shadow or other aggressive decks, like Affinity.
3. Reej is easier to cast than Sovereign, allows dumping the hand if we get to untap, isn't tapped just to give one creature unblockable and does other stuff.
4. Elves is bad. You can try some Gut Shot action or Tidebinder, but not a lot of hope.
5. Kira is whatever one wants, main, side, 2, 1, none, your choice.
I've had my share of struggles with control. They can spot removal a few threats, board wipe if you over commit, lock the board down with Gideon/Elspeth and then reload with Sphinxes Rev. I've ground out some games, but I wouldn't exactly call this is a good matchup.
Eldrazi Tron doesn't particularly bother me, although IF you consider that and Affinity to both be a problem then perhaps look at Ceremonious Rejection?
With regards to Counter Company I do have a question.... IF you have a Gut Shot in your opening hand do you immediately pluck off the mana dork to slow them down, or do you hold it up until Vizier hits the board to make sure you have an answer?

At first glance, it seems like a bad Kira. However, it is a merfolk. Hmmm.....

Again, totally not official, but apparently a sheet for Ixalan has been leaked...UNCONFIRMED:

So basically a merfolk Kira.
Considering they are printing merfolk tribal in the set, that means that both this set and its sister will have merfolk in it.
Again to echo Cowology, the deck is pretty stock the way it is...cursecatcher, adept, the lords, they're all basically going to stay...maybe there is some flex in the deck, but its unclear even if this is a VERY heavy merfolk set, what we're really going to use.
I agree with Zarator - that looks like a 2, not a 1, which in turn makes the card significantly more powerful. I think that if I'm correct, it will replace Kira.
Could it be run along side Kira? 2 Kopala in the main, 1 Kira in the side? Having two protection effects on the field at once seems pretty tantalizing.
The fact that it now cost 3 instead of 1 is a form of protection. They cannot afford to use their removal and cast the other things they wanted to cast, so either:
a) they allow Image to live while casting their other spells to develop their board, which gives us more swings with P.Image and the other fish it is pumping,
or
b) they don't develop their board, spend an extra turn removing Image, giving us more turns to swing with our other fish,
or
c) they remove image, but cannot afford to remove our other fish because that is ANOTHER 3 mana, giving us more turns to swing with our other fish,
OR
d) they remove Kopala first, which uses up a precious removal spell, giving us more turns to swing with our other fish.
Kira doesn't protect Phantasmal Image; at all. Regardless of if the spell would have been countered, Image was still the target of the spell, and so it will sacrifice itself.
Im not talking about Kira with Phimage, but with any other...opponent needs to spend 2 removals, the new merfolk will delay them early game, but mid/late game they will have the enough mana to remove our guy with a single spell
Apologies. I misread your last post. In that situation it just functions as more synergistic creature. It gets pumped by the lords its protecting, and is unblockable, where as Kira is always just a 2/2 flyer. So it will actually put up a faster clock to help prevent the game from reaching the point where the opponent has the excess mana.
