Ok, so would it make some sort of sense to run a 2/2 split? Or do you always 3-4 of whichever you prefer? Maybe that just makes you suboptimal in all situations lol
On a sidenote.. What do you guys think about running 2 (or maybe even 3) Oboros?
Ok, now hang with me on this..:
We all know that you can get UU with oboro+mutavault right? So, we would be on a disadvantage if we would draw 2 Oboros and nothing else in an opening hand right? BUT we would gain consistency if we have in our opening hand Mutavault + Oboro (And no other lands). The second event would happen more often (Since we run 4 Mutavaults)right? So overall we would gain consistency. Plus we would gain a little edge when playing against Lilianas (By bouncing and discarding it).
I'm interested in your thoughts on this. Is there anything im missing here? Edit: I guess the situation of drawing into Oboro 3rd or 4th turn when we already have an Oboro on the board. But then again, theres a question of importance - having Turn 2 UU or turn 3 3 lands.

absolutely not. you'd screw yourself EVERY time you drew a 2nd one. and using it to filter colorless to U costs you a land drop. so if you have a hand of Oboro, mutavault, mutavault you can't make UU and play your 3rd land. playing any more than 1 is totally wrong.

Agreed. It's tempting to have it to filter our mana, but that assumes that you're not making land drops and desperately need fixing, which in my experience is a rather uncommon situation to be in.
My dream is to beat Jund, I would love to watch nikachus matchs on that GP =(
jund is a pretty good matchup for us. he's got lots of videos of the match on his youtube channel. side out your vials and play as many creatures as you can. spreading seas is the best card.

Yeah, I have a pretty good win-rate against Jund. As with any deck it can be tough with the nut draw where they have every possible answer, but we typically have the tools to beat them. Tec Edge & Relic are great. Tidebinder & Kira are useful if you run them. Side out those vials, run as many creatures as you can and keep the pressure on. And try not to mull. Not saying to keep an unplayable hand, but starting the game with 6 or less cards is not really where you wanna be against attrition, so I'm more inclined to keep a questionable hand.
I've just finished GP Brisbane in 45th place playing Merfolk and wrote an article about my matches and experience! Wanted to post it here as I reached out to this group for sideboard advice before the event!!
Modern Monday again last night and I decided to give Merfolk a try again since it did so well at GP Vancouver. Around good turnout and we had 5 rounds.
Here was my matches: Round 1: (Opponent's deck: Eldrazi Tron)
Most of the time I get wrecked by Tron in any form but I get there.
Game 1: Had enough board presence to get my beats on through Eldrazi.
Game 2: Islandwalk really helped this game and I just smashed again with my fish.
Round 2: (Opponent's deck: R/W Prisons)
An interesting deck to say the least, control with the possibly to combo off with Emrakul, the Aeons Torn is scary.
Game 1: Merfolk was with me, enough board presence to beat down this game.
Game 2: Nahiri, the Harbinger protected by Gideon Jura to be able to get Emrakul, the Aeons Torn got there.
Game 3: This game was amazing. They killed so many of my Merfolk and all I had left was a Cursecatcher. I couldn't play my lords because Chalice of the Void on two stoped me but that little Cursecatcher won the match for me.
Round 3: (Opponent's deck: Death and Taxes)
Usually a good match up by going wide by alas, they out valued me.
Game 1: Really close game, had them on the ropes but alas they get there.
Game 2: My board was huge this game and I beat down hard.
Game 3: They had enough removal for my Merfolk and I couldn't make enough of a board presence.
Round 4: (Opponent's deck: Naya Burn)
And so begins one of my most hated decks in Modern, Burn...
Game 1: This game was pretty much burn to the face and I couldn't race my opponent.
Game 2: Master of Waves is my hero, REALLY good against burn and I got there. They couldn't stop my Master this game.
Game 3: They pretty much aimed all burn at my Merfolk and I had nothing.
Round 5: (Opponent's deck: Elves)
This match is pretty much a race, who can get enough beaters out and make an alpha strike.
Game 1: They set up faster than me and was really helped by Collected Company, they got their quicker than I could.
Game 2: I waited until I had enough of an army of Merfolk ready and I alpha strike for more than 30+ damage.
Game 2: Shaman of the Pack was the winner of this game and the much honestly. Quite good, should be one for Merfolk.
I have changed my deck a bit since the last time I had I played with it, mainly because my fiancé is playing with myChalice of the Voidin her deck, so I made some changes. Here is my list:
The main changes I made from taking out the Chalice of the Void by adding one more Island instead of having only 19 lands total and thought that having an even twenty would be better. The other change is adding the second Kira, Great Glass-Spinner and good god that card is really strong in that deck.
All in all I went 2-3, not terrible but not fantastic. The last match determined if I made top 8 and alas, Elves got there.
I now ask for critiques of my deck and more specifically Sideboard along with Mainboard. What should I add candor take out? All comments are welcome!
So I haven't played Modern in almost two years but will be going to GP San Antonio and will be building a deck before then. I'm leaning toward Merfolk at the moment, but nothing is set in stone. Using Nikachus decklist as a starting point, what other cards should I be picking up to potentially use as flex spots / meta calls.

Btw, I read a war earlier between Tec Edge and Seas Claim. They are both good and I wouldn't fault anyone for playing one over the other at any open. However I was expecting Grixis Control and RG Valakut and sea's claim is pitiful in that department.
With death's shadow being the star of the show I would move to sea's claim for this weekend.
Thanks for your thoughts. I happen to agree with them. Another bonus of going 8-Seas is that you'll have to sweat the Burn matchup less - I have yet to lose against them since I made the switch.
Agree Rothgar. I crushed every burn player at my PPTQ thanks to 8 Seas.

My last 3 Burn matches my opponent flooded out lol. But yeah, generally Seas are great in the matchup.
And Id take echoing truth over snag and dismember vs Deaths Shadow. With Ulvenwald its not at all uncommon to see multiple copies hit the board giving it a lot of reach.
Unfortunately non of our answers are ideal, but I might still prefer Dismember over Snag. You definitely have to plan your blocks and throw away some creatures and life, but at least its semi-permanent. Until Lilly or KCommand anyway. Snag only buys you a turn.
This might sound dumb... but i almost just wanna run Reality Shift or Narcolepsy to nuetrolize them. Or run 1 random Act of Aggression just to troll someone lol Threads of Disloyalty anyone?? Hell, maybe even Ratchet Bomb. Its not entirely without other users, but at that point might as well just Chalice.
Course the problem remains; hand destruction. Like when i keep that hand vs. Lantern Control only to have my recall eaten up by IOK t1. Snagging that Chalice t1 could be back breaking, but might still be our best plan. It eats up half their deck and should help you get unified will online to protect it.
I guess they could cast it, let it go to gy and cheat it into play, but that's a lot of work.

As someone new to fish, do you plan on making sny additional changes to your 2nd place finish besides the seas claims for tecs?
Yes, I'll have a list by Friday. Im not sure but I think I want Negate over Unified Will in a sea's claim build to help fight control. Valakut got a lot worse anyway. We'll see.
