Any version of this deck more midrangey and without Ancestral Visions?
I used to play a version with 4 ancestral visions, 3 collective brutality, 4 baby jace, 2 goblin dark dwellers, 3 LotV. Deck was really fun to play, but had almost no countermagic. I feel ancestral vision was stronger in this build then the control as you can pitch it easily.

So to play this deck withou AV I have to go the control route?
I think a version with discards, Lily and just countersqall is strong enough, and modern favors proactive decks more than control decks.
People have had success with Anticipate and Painful Truths. Both of these come close enough but require you to plan your mana and curve a bit differently. Painful truths demands some way to gain life. Kalitas?

I'm facing a lot of creatures based decks, so I have ton mainboard some wrath effects and only 1 Damnation seems not that much for main board. Thoughts about running more (or some other cards)?
Hi guys, been tuning Grixis Control/Delver for the past few months since I got back into the game back in January. I finally grabbed the AV's so I made the switch to control and here is my list:
Meta Calls:
There are literally probably 4-6 Burn Decks at my LGS per tournament so Dragon's Claw is good here.
There are also many decks playing tokens, as well as Lingering Souls, so Electrolyze has been really good as a 1-of.
There are also ton's of Tron and/or Eldrazi Variants running around, so I get a lot of use out of Ceremonious Rejection
I used to love Dreadbore as a 2-1 split with Terminate in the MD but it's been feeling worse and worse lately. Collective Brutality was a 1-1 split MD-SB when I played it as Delver, but I moved the MD into the SB to make room for the control cards. But I have been considering putting it back into the MD as a 1-of.
The deck has been really solid honestly, I don't know what the problem in certain Match-Up's is. I feel like I either go 2-0 by a mile, 0-2 by a mile, or 2-1 by the skin of my teeth. At my LGS the two decks that give me the most trouble is easily Eldrazi and Tron.
The people at my LGS are really various. We get 40-50 people at FNM and 75% of them are playing meta decks and the other 25% is playing rogue good stuff. I feel like even the most roguey decks at my LGS are playing 3-4 Tarmogoyf. Not that Goyf has been a problem for me, it just shows how diverse my LGS meta is. They also change really often as well depending on what is being played at the last GP/PTQ. These guys are on top of it. Last week we had 8 people show up with Grixis Shadow alone...
I am solely invested in Grixis colors right now as I just came back to the game earlier this year. I honestly don't care to switch decks for any reason. I enjoy playing Grixis and I feel like I have great Match-Up's against the meta. Granted no pro-players are at my LGS, but these guys are packing the top tier decks every week and I am regular at Top 8 with Grixis Control. I don't want to be one of those guys that complains about every deck being a bad match-up. Grixis definitely is a force to be reckoned with, and it will always be relevant. I guess I'm just asking if anything seems wrong here, considering my Burn-Heavy meta. I did take Dispel out of my SB as my other counter magic has been effective enough, and I don't usually face too many other control decks at my LGS.
I recently acquired a 3rd Kolaghan's Command and I have been considering adding that and either 1 Gurmag Angler or a 3rd Tasigur, the Golden Fang. I haven't been having much trouble finishing out winning games, but I suppose I might try a more consistent list?
What are y'all suggestion if I wanted to add 1 K-Command, 1 Tasigur/Fish, and 1 Brutality from the SB into the MD? What changes would be appropriate?
I would go with Crypt Incursion instead of Dragon's Claw. I ran the latter for some time, but with a heavy creatures based meta and some Burn running around, lifegain is also an issue for me. We take a lot of hits from ourselves from fetching and shocking and having te handle pressure early game, so Crypt Incursion is a great card all around to have so extra life gain (easily 9 to 12).
Your list looks solid enough, great sideboard also Maindeck is stock, a great list to make some solid runs!
I definitely would not run Dragon's Claw in the sideboard, you want your anti burn cards to be able to fill in for other roles as well. Crypt Incursion is better, Collective Brutality is super solid, Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet is my weapon of choice. Dispel and Duress are both virtually hate cards against burn. Dispel is especially strong against multiple decks, like any Collected Company deck.
well, I finally got my first 5-0 in a comp league after a couple wasted chances. I tried a list that had 3 bolts, probably didn't matter for these specific matches, but I now have crossed that line and will continue to test the change.
Congrats! Would you mind posting your list sans one Lightning Bolt?
Thanks. I've tried many kinds of variations recently, but they're all only 1-3 cards off of each other. I wanted to gain a little more edge against the DS decks since they've shot up in popularity like crazy, hence the 2nd Push over 3rd bolt and 3rd AV over 3rd Remand. Another recent change is the second Kalitas in the board, since Dredge has performed very well recently. I also like to have cards against burn, although not many people have been advocating for the deck recently, so I could see changing the 2nd Kalitas for a Nihil Spellbomb or some other GY hate card perhaps. Kalitas is pretty solid though, and Burn is always somewhat popular on MODO.
Congrats Tiemuu for 5-0 the League! It's a cool list, having only 3 Bolts is an interesting choice. The sideboard is solid : how Kalitas has been so far as well as Remand mainboard?
How is everyone feeling about having mainboard wrath effects such as Damnation? I have a lot of decks based on creatures in my meta (Affinity, Eldrazi and Taxes, Abzan Company, etc.) and some fringe decks with planeswalker, hence why I run 1 Dreadbore and 1 Damnation main. Suggestions about sweepers or efficiency to clear a pretty huge board without spending like 2 Bolts and 1 Push?

Thanks, I've been playing with Remand and Kalitas for almost a year now. Dunno what to say about them. Remand gets sided out a lot but it's still very good against many tough archetypes. I'm pretty sure I will always have at least one Kalitas in the board, it's so strong against Burn and Dredge.
Hey there guys, new this forum, but not new to Grixis Control. I've been testing recently, in preparation for GP Vegas, and I have been playing with a list excluding the 4th lightning bolt. I've been pretty happy with the results. I do feel that there is something to cutting a bolt. It's extremely hard after years of playing with 4 Lightning Bolts to shave one, but right now it might just be the proper call. My list for reference:
I'm surprised that I haven't seen any discussion on Nichol Bolas, God-Pharaoh. It seems like this card could take a much better spot in the cruel ultimatum lists, and it could be used in conjunction with Kiki-Jiki with its ultimate, and its -4 can just win the game if it hits the board. Nichol also has a much less mana requirement than cruel, so it can be less susceptible to cards like blood moon. Its a very powerful card that I think could be the late game bomb that Grixis has been searching for.
Nichol Bolas, God-Pharaoh:

[-12]: Exile each nonland permanent your opponents contro
I'll probably be testing a 1-2 of list once its available, but the problems I foresee with it are more of the same when it comes to win conditions in this control list.
It's very slow, a list with something like oath of nissa may just be better to find and cast him along with cards like birds of paradise and other ramp. 6 cmc seems to be the highest cast spell the format can consistently build around. (I'm looking at you primeval titan!)
The format is super fast. I foresee death's shadow being banned, and I think if it does get banned then infect will take its place, so it may just not change the decks performance at all.
Those negatives aside, I think if it resolves, it's more than likely a scoop from your opponent, so its still worth testing.
Congrats! Would you mind posting your list sans one Lightning Bolt?

How does the singleton creeping tar pit and the 2 mana leaks feel? I have been using logic knot as a singletons instead.
I got 3-0 today
Round 1 was 2-0 against Mono red goblins. On the draw
I knew what i was playing against from when i went to states a few month back. Opening hand was strong with a anger of the gods to finish the job. She made a misplay by letting my summon sick baby jace live and instead take me to 4. She attempted to bolt it before i could draw and in response i drew it and flipped it. After that she realized dreadbore was a sorcery not a instant and scooped.
-3 cryptic command -2 Baby Jace +2 Echoing Truth +1 Anger of the gods +1 Damnation +1 Izzet Staticaster
Opening hand actually had 1 land, 2 visions, 1 echoing truth, and various removal. I debated on mulling several times before keeping since i was on the play. Drew the land i needed first draw and was ecstatic. She never had a creature stick and could only bolt me down to 6. This game was odd in the fact i couldn't locate any creature till about turn 7 which i drew a single Snappy that won me the game.
Round 2 2-0 against Affinity on the play
He didnt run inkmoth nexus since he likes to buy locally and we have 15 or so infect decks running around.
He realized what i was playing in about half a second when i left a bloodstained mire on the field and passed turn. He scooped on turn 4 stating he knew when i dropped a 5th land he had no chance after in had used a cryptic to tap and bounce after his uptap step.
-3 cryptic command and +1 Anger of the Gods +1 Damnation +1 Echoing Truth
He scooped after mulling to 4 with no creatures. Apparently he had never gotten a single spell other then a single mox opal and thoughtcast with lands every other time.
2-1 Against Infect was in the play. He rolled snake eyes and said "im going second?"
This guy was really salty from the first turn when i killed his elf. He ended up calling the judge so much the judge got tired of his Bs calls and DQ him before turn 6 on our first game. The judge was nice enough to say it was 2-1 so he would not complain. I think he got kicked frim the store, but i dropped after round 3 since i was not feeling it and my friend offered to buy chinese since he had a String of bad luck and was 0-3.
Post list later phones about dead.

0-2 against U-Tron : Sundering Titan destroyed me. Wasn't able to grind through it and having that much mana for the opponent was too rough to handle. It felt close in game 1, but not in game 2.
0-2 against Eldrazi and Taxes : not much to say, I was pretty much locked out of the game because of the fatties. Didn't kept up with the tempo for long (4-5 turns max).
0-2 against Ad Nauseam : got overloaded with Pact of Negation game 1 and some more counterspell game 2. Felt I couldn't win.
I haven't taken notes, but I vividly remember that I was feeling good about the deck, but I was also hesitating because it's the first time I play it in and event. I took time to make decisions, but I'm not sure I made the good ones. I have to get used to efficiency (use all the ressources in the graveyard for example) and all the synergies in the deck (i.e. Kolaghan's Command with Snapcaster Mage for example). The worst part I think was sideboarding and keeping hands... The latter was the hardest : didn't know much what to keep or not. I mean, from common sense, I knew what was keepable, but I couldn't say if I should mulligan to get more counterspells or more board presence.
Second event, 4 rounds, 1-3:
0-2 against Affinity : I felt that I needed more sweepers, more 2 for 1 cards like Electrolyze to clean the board. I wish I had like 3 Supreme Verdict effect, but having to trade 1 for 1 in that matchup wasn't good enough. I tried to grind out game 1, it worked to some point, but I ran out of ressources and blockers.
0-2 against UB Faeries : I felt bad loosing to that deck. Kind of fringe, was surprised by some odd cards and Bitterblossom wasn't manageable. I couldn't deal with that, remove it or trade for the flyers, so I got out of gaz once again.
2-0 against Sultai Delirium : the only games where I felt I made no mistakes, everything went as it should in a Grixis control deck. I got down to 1 life and stabilized slowly but surely to make sure to lock out the game with some Creeping Tar Pit beatdown. Same for game 2
1-2 against Burn : aside Crypt Incursion, not much to do. I had a good fight honestly, but got burned out and the last game, the deck was sleeping.
In all, not a good night at all. I'm learning, it will slowly get better all Summer, but it'll take time because there's no free win with Grixis it seems I'm feeling I need more sweepers mainboard and also more counterspells. Strangely, I thought that Spell Snare would be narrow and not that good, but it was fine. On the other hand, Countersquall was a dead card against Affinity, Faeries, U-Tron threats, etc. Cryptic Command was good, but I wished most of the times that I was Damnation instead. I wished also most of the games that Kolaghan's Command was more like Electrolyze to deal with small creatures.
Any comments or suggestions to tune the board are welcome. Cheers!
How does the singleton creeping tar pit and the 2 mana leaks feel? I have been using logic knot as a singletons instead.
Manlands are more and more a liability with Fatal Push.
Not sure if your just screwing around or you didnt realize fatal push didnt really change all that much removal wise. All fatal push did was unify black removal under one banner for the most part. Before you had stuff like Ultimate Price, Dismember, Go for the throat, Murderous Cut, Disfigure, Smother, Doom Blade for the most part. Manlands were a liability prior to the printing of fatal push due to various removal and including up to Ghost Quarter and Tectonic Edge even some enchantment and artifacts. You play them for the late game options and power level.

I can understand losing to some of the games due to lack of experience with both the deck and against people with it, but im curious as to your matchup on affinity. Even though our removal is slightly different by about 3 cards which are basically all 1cmc more then mine and just more powerful. You use 1 Terminate 1 Dreadbore 1 Damnation while i use 2 Fatal Push 1 Anger of the Gods instead i feel Affinity is one the few decks were are favored for mainboard and in the Sideboard without actually adding cards for them. Mind telling me as much about the match as possible so i can try and help? Other then burn thats probably the one matchup i have played against multiple times with success otherwise i see them rarely if ever.

Not sure why you deny his argument here, but Push costs one less mana than the other spells you mention, Push is played in more copies in more archetypes, and currently lies in top tier decks. GQ is a land you find in non-top tier decks for the most part, and Tec Edge is not played in enough relevant decks anymore.
The person you respond to isn't "screwing around", he's stating a fact. Creature lands are more exposed nowadays, and the decision to cut some copies is worth mentioning.

First event, 3 rounds, 0-3:
Cheers!
