23 land and 5 of them only produce colorless mana. Then you have to kinda pray you have interaction early from the few cards that answer something. That deck looks rough to pilot IMO but congrats on your 5-0!
has anyone tried the grixis thopter foundry list that was the daily deck a couple days ago on scg? it got my attention. going to pick up some cards and try it myself. gonna change the mana base a bit though.
Yes I like it a lot. It is the most consistent in my opinion. Only change I made was cutting the 4th AV for a vendilion clique.
I need some advice for fnm tonight. This is my current sb.
2 Anger of the Gods
1 Damnation
1 Go for the Throat
1 Magma Spray
1 Engineered Explosives
1 Spellskite
2 Crumble to Dust
2 Dispel
1 Negate
2 Kalitas
1 Ashiok
My meta is pretty various. There's at least one of every deck in the format.
My main question is should I run Kalitas in the board or should I stick with trying to keep tempo and add a 2nd magma spray and something else?
I find it a bit conflicting to play Kalitas sometimes, like it interrupts my tempo and I take a turn off from controlling them to play him. Just my thoughts but what are your opinions?
one card i would suggest that has played very good for me would be Kozilek's return. Chapin recently wrote about how he lost to fish and affinity at the GP thanks to having no ways to handle master of waves or etched champion.
as far as kalitas, i feel that any creature matchup without cheap removal for her crumbles once she resolves. solves a fair number of problematic aggro matchups
Fun fact: Corey Burkhart went to the same LGS i did when i used to play all the time. We played poker together once or twice and while he was always considered one of the best magic players in the shop i never thought he'd pursue being a magic pro. Good to see him succeeding.
@Grixis724: I like bringing in Kalitas vs the Meliara combo decks, and as a threat against midrange decks. I think it makes more sense in a diverse meta to have a card that can just run away with the game instead of a few redundant removal spells
I tested Corey Buckhart list from GP Los Angeles today. My thoughts:
I loved playing Cryptic.
I think it needs more threats. Maybe 2 Tasigur 2 Angler?
It could also use a mainboard Anger or Damnation
4 AV is too much I think. At least in my aggro meta.
I miss Kalitas.
I forgot to add one very important point in my opinion: I HATED how random Thought Scour is. Every scour I casted last night put game winning topdecks in the yard and drew me lands when I was already flooding. I know it's confirmation bias, but I don't want to deal with randomness.
All things considered, I tried to get a compromise between Corey list and the more midrangey Kalitas lists. Main reason being I loved playing Cryptic, it's just amazing in almost every situation. So I made some quick changes and want to test them soon.
-4 Thought Scour
-1 Tasigur
-1 AV
-1 Remand
-1 Cryptic
-1 Dreadbore
+2 Kalitas
+3 Inquisition of Kozilek
+2 Mana Leak
+1 Slaughter Pact
+1 Darkslick Shores.
3 Cryptic main might still be too much. Also Cryptic's UUU and Kalitas' BB might be awkward sometimes.

It depends on your meta. I took Keranos out because it was for Jund and other Control and for both AV are already superb.
With Kalitas main I think Vampiric Link is good enough as 1 copy on the side. No need for two. If there's Burn in your meta I would definitely keep 1, and replace the other with a Negate (amazing in the Burn MU and in many others).
As for board wipes, I run 1-1-1 split of Kozilek's Return, Anger of the Gods and Damnation. Against wide strategies any will do you good, and it's great to have a diverse suite of wipes. Kozilek's Return will help with protection to red and manlands (instant speed). Anger deals with Finks, Voice and the like. Damnation kills everything out of the x/3 range.
Well I went 4-0 tonight. Vendilion Clique in place of the 4th AV was such a clutch move. It performed very well. Overall I'm very impressed with the deck. Might swap out the magma spray for a Kozileks return but idk, I didnt play against any g/w variants. Deck is hella flexible and this version is super mana efficient.

What did you end up doing with your sideboard?
The exact one I listed.
2 Anger
1 Damnation
1 Go for the Throat
1 Magma Spray
1 EE
1 Spellskite
2 Kalitas
2 Dispel
1 Negate
2 Crumble to Dust
1 Ashiok
Like the guy above you said, this build is probably weak to merfolk so I'm considering using a 3rd anger over the magma spray, but I sort of want the option to pay 1 mana early and hit something early.
Might actually cut the 2 Kalitas and add 1 Spray and 1 EE. Then Id have a better chance against tokens and merfolk, not to mention spray is good against affinity. I also wanted 1 more doom blade type of card to deal with eldrazi, and I need some type of answer to etched champion.
Maybe I'm trying too hard, but I do like the extra spot removal instead of always relying on sweepers (keep them in of course).
So if I'm looking to change 3-4 cards in here, what would your suggestions be?

If you count EE you have 4 sweepers which combined with the what, 11 pieces of spot removal, should be fine. If you want more turn one plays i think you should take out the Go For the Throat. Its pick your poision but i read an article once that said if you have a really bad match up dont over compensate but over side boarding, just ignore it. Hope you dont play it lol.
I'm no expert, so dont take my advice as etched in stone. The only thing i see going wrong with taking out the Kalitas for more removal is a lack of finishers.
Played Grixis Delver last night to a 3-1. Loss was to Jeskai Nahiri. I played the Overturf list except:
-1 Spell Snare
+1 Grim Lavamancer
I must say I drew the Lavamancer a lot and it was INSANE. It helped me 1 for 1 with a Voice of Resurgence (huge problem for us) and it decimated Affinity. It even feels pretty OK at pressuring Control since it has this weird inevitability though it does die rather easily. Would probably play a 2nd in a Grixis Control 75. Also helped me get the "crap" out of my graveyard for Tasigur.

This could be genius, my friend. I've been grinding against a friend's merfolk deck in preparation for WMCQ (since counterspell based delver lists are so weak to their harbingers and vials/caverns) and have been hard pressed to find an answer to their fish without running out of gas. Will be trying 1 in the side.

Just about every control list I've played is good against Merfolk so far and Grixis was a deck I was really scared of while on merfolk. Also highly recommend Izzet Staticaster as a former merfolk player (you were probably playing this card already but maybe you never brought it in). You're Bolting/Terminating lords so she cleans up the Master of Waves tokens making it MUCH easier to deal with (just block with Snapcaster/Tasigur/Clique now), Silvergills, and Cursecatchers. Also relevant: She breaks Kira shield.
