Yes, I'm aware my sideboard is sort of wonky. I was hedging on too many matchups, imo, and I think that I have a couple changes I'm going to make to it.
Round 1: Restore Balance
He spent the first 5 turns just playing border posts. I was super confused for a bit before I remembered that I had read about this deck once or twice. I combo'd him turn 5.
I didn't think that my removal would do anything, whereas hitting his border posts seemed important. I had an early Remand and held onto it for the entire game (I didn't want to get cascaded). He dropped a Tezzeret to animate a border post, but I ended up just comboing the turn after with a Pestermite.
2-0
Round 2: Merfolk
Game 1 was pretty easy. He never landed a Vial and tapped out on turn 3 to play a Merrow Reejeray. I responded with a Pestermite and Twinned the next turn.
Out: 2 Remands, 1 Electrolyze, 1 Inquisition of Kozilek.
In: 2 Anger of the Gods, 1 Kolaghan's Command, 1 Negate
I'm not a big fan of Remand in this matchup. Their deck is so efficient and they're likely able to replay their cards, on top of Vial just giving them free dudes. I didn't draw very well, and they led off with an Aether Vial. Despite having Bolt/Snap/Bolt, I still lost to a Master of Waves with double Mutavault backup.
Out: 1 Negate
In: 1 Inquisition
I had an unreal hand. I went Bolt->Terminate->Snap/Bolt->Kommand and later Anger of the Gods. Unfortunately, my draws after that sucked (even with an active Loothouse) and I ended up getting beaten down by 2 Reejerays and a Lord of Atlantis with no way to close out the game. After I died, I took a look at the top card of my library to see: an Exarch, which would have let me dodge lethal that turn. I already had Twin in my hand as well, but oh well
Side note: I'm fairly certain my sideboarding for this match was wrong. I liked bringing in the Anger of the Gods and Kolaghan's Command, but I also think that Engineered Explosives and Vedalken Shackles would have been great. I'm not sure if I would bring out IoK for them, but it's probably what I would do. They tend to dump their hand fairly quickly, leaving IoK outside of turn 1 being an incredibly mediocre card. Any advice would be appreciated.
1-2
Round 3: Burn
I was terrified of this matchup. I previously played Storm and Grixis Delver, which has made me extremely wary of Burn in general. He led off with a Grim Lavamancer (which ate a Bolt) into Eidolon of the Great Revel. I had to take 4 (ouch) to Snap/Bolt it off of the table. I got Spiked and double Bolted to death. Oh well. I totally misplayed that opening sequence with the Bolt on the Lavamancer. I might have had a shot if I had kept it for the Eidolon instead of taking a bunch off of a Snap/Bolt.
He started off kind of slow with Lava Spike into Boros Charm with no creatures. I got to Inquistion away one of them turn 1 (which saved my life) and noted that he had a Destructive Revelry, which invalidated my Exarch/Twin in hand (as I had no countermagic backup besides a Remand, which wouldn't save me against that without getting to turn 6). He ended up dropping a Goblin Guide, which drew me a land before dying to Bolt. Snap/Bolt and Exarch beatdown got me there.
I didn't change my sideboard in between games (as I didn't really like anything in there besides Jace, which I think is just a bit too slow). He again had a bit of a slow hand with no creatures and just a Lava Spike. I took a couple more points of burn, then Inquisitioned away a Searing Blaze, leaving him with 2 Destructive Revelry in hand. I followed up with an Exarch->Twin with Twin in hand. I ate the first Revelry, which seemed to ease his mind a bit, because he tapped down to 2 to play an Eidolon. I followed it up with another Exarch tapping down his Stomping Ground and leaving him with 1 mana, which allowed me to drop another Twin for the GG.
2-1.
Round 4: Merfolk
Oh crap, not Merfolk again. I was on the play and had an obscene hand with 2 Bolts, a Snapcaster, an Exarch and some fetches. I blind kept and was rewarded. He led off with a Vial (uh oh), but I drew a Kommand. I bolted his first creature, then Snap/Bolted a Mutavault and blocked another Mutavault with the Snapcaster (which felt so good). With him then so low on mana, I was able to Kommand to kill his vial and shoot down his Silvergill Adept. He was running out of cards at this point, which he exacerbated by playing out a Curse Catcher into Master of Waves. This gave me an opening to Twin him, which I took.
Out: 2 Remand, 1 Electrolyze, 1 Cryptic Command.
In: 2 Anger of the Gods, 1 Kolaghan's Command, 1 Negate
I feel like Cryptic is too slow and liable to be blown out by Spell Pierce or Dispel, and Electrolyze doesn't do enough damage for its mana cost. Kommand does 2 damage as well, but has a ton of added upside.
I drew up a hand with 3 fetches, an Anger of the Gods, Exarch, Remand and Kommand. I would have preferred a Bolt or Spell Snare over Remand, but I liked the hand enough to keep it (Anger is great). I focused on fetching tapped lands to preserve my life total a bit, during which he went turn 2 Silvergill Adept and vialed out Phantasmal Image copying Adept to draw another card, then tapped out on turn 3 for a Kira, Great Glass Spinner.
I tapped out for Anger, then went Bolt and Snap/Bolt on his next two plays. I stumbled a bit afterwards for a turn or two, during which he played 2 Master of Waves. During this time, however, I picked up another Exarch and Twin. This was where he stumbled: he went into the redzone with his Master of Waves and the tokens. I went to block with a Snapcaster mage, after which it registered with him that Master doesn't have pro Blue (whoops). He Vapor Snagged it before damage to save it, reducing the amount of damage I would take. He then made his second mistake of tapping out to replay the Master, to which I responded with Exarch into Twin.
Overall 3-1, felt great.
Some notes: Sorry if my report was boring. I don't write many of these. I felt like this thread could use more love, and I would like some sideboarding help.
Assuming I kept my sideboard the same, I think this is how I would board against the decks I played (now that I've been able to sit down and give it some thought):
I also played a few games against Abzan and UWR after the tournament, which led me to this:
Abzan
Out: 3 Splinter Twin, 3 Deceiver Exarch
In: 1 Blood Moon, 1 Keranos, 1 Vedalken Shackles, 1 Engineered explosives, 1 Jace, 1 Kolaghan's Command
Thoughts, suggestions? Am I a complete idiot? Also, how do you guys like Darkslick Shores? I'm tempted to go -1 Watery Grave and -1 Steam Vents for 2 Darkslick.
I think my major problem tonight was my hesitation to take out my Remands. I think you're right and that I should probably have been pulling all 4 of them during a few of those matchups.
Your point with Murderous Cut is also completely valid. I didn't even think about Cut dodging Eidolon. Batterskull is definitely too slow, though. It's not terribly often that I get to turn 5 on the draw and feel comfortable enough to tap out for Batterskull. On top of that, it gives them another target for Destructive Revelry (which is sort of good since it's not hitting a Twin, but it's awful in that it just killed your 5 drop and domed you for 2).
And yeah, Ashiok is in there for BGx. I usually like to leave in at least 1 of each combo piece, but it's probably way greedy and Ashiok would be way better.
What do you think of Sower of Temptation?
I'm tempted (no pun intended) to run a transitional SB this weekend and board into full grixis control against BGx (Sowers, Ashioks, Jace, etc.)
Also: What do you think of thoughtseize main/sideboard? Alot of lists seem to fluctuate.
@MrM0nd4y Why not bring in Kommand against Burn on the play? I feel as though more often than not it will kill a creature and discard a burn spell due to the low land count that burn players typically run.
-What do you guys feel about hand disruption in the sideboard as opposed to mainboarding it?
-Is 23 lands a good amount?
-I sort of want to add either another Jace or Keranos to my board but I already am running 2 Bitterblossom for the grindy matchups and I think another card for those matchups might be too much
-In what matchups should I completely side the combo out in? I'm still fairly new to this deck and would like some tips on it. Also any general tips and tricks to piloting this deck would be helpful.
-I'm currently not running any spellskites. Should I though? It does get a lot of decks like Boggles, Infect and the mirror but I don't know what I should really take out if I were to put them in.
What's the opinion on discard in general in grixis twin? It seems like it's better in the sideboard rather than the mainboard, and probably as a two-of. However, between Inquisition/Thoughtseize/Duress what do you all find to be the most efficient discard package?
-What do you guys feel about hand disruption in the sideboard as opposed to mainboarding it?
Both ways are fine, imo. I've enjoyed maindecking it, but I also wouldn't mind siding it out for another Cryptic and something like a Dispel or another Electrolyze.
-Is 23 lands a good amount?
Yes. More is a bit overkill, less can give you pretty bad mulligans.
-I sort of want to add either another Jace or Keranos to my board but I already am running 2 Bitterblossom for the grindy matchups and I think another card for those matchups might be too much
Then don't. Bitterblossom should be fine with the other two as a one of. Otherwise, take out one BB and replace it with them if you think they're better at the grindy games.

I like Inquisition the most. Our manabase is somewhat painful and Thoughtseize exacerbates that. I'm currently liking two in the main, but as I said moving them to the side is also absolutely fine.
Ok, you've sold me on running two Olivia as opposed to one. Also, thanks for actually explaining Olivia in more detail. All of my friends just tell me how good she is without actually explaining why to me, so thanks for that.
I really enjoyed your in-depth explanation of each card and why it was there. It was really insightful to me, being very new to Grixis Twin.

I need tips on the jund matchup im on hinijosas build with ts instead of duress.
my board probably isnt what it should be but i have stuff in the mail that will hopefully be here by this pptq on the 13th
right now i have...
bitterblossom x2
dispel x1
murderous cut x1
spell pierce x1
engineered explosives x1
kolaghan's command x1
Spellskite x2
dragon's claw x2
dismember x1
rending volley x1
Shatterstorm x2
i have a keranos and 2 anger of the gods in the mail.
Im very new to twin so any suggestions will be very much appreciated.
I don't like cut. The deck already delves enough that snap caster is a 3 of. I also don't like dragons claw. Is burn really an issue for you? I would think 2 spellskite, dispel, and all the discard would be enough.
@Joelle_Van_Dyne: Amazing write up Joelle!
However I don't quiet agree with running Thoughtseize over IoK or Duress. I have tested all three over the last couple of months and the extra damage from Thoughtseize is surprising significant plus there is very little we care about that TS gets that IoK doesn't.

ive just heard that burn is a large portion of the meta in texas so i had that in when i was playing grixis delver.
i plan to take out 2 dragons claw and 1 Shatterstorm for a keranos and 2 anger of the gods
@Magix: I admit I've only played Bloom Titan a couple of times but I have generally found the match-up to be pretty good. Discard and counter magic disrupt their early plays while Exarch/Mite/Terminate make winning through Prime Time difficult. That said Fulminator Mage+Kolaghan's Command+Snapcaster Mage is disgusting value.

That little combo is why I picked up the Grixis list.
What do you guys think about Slay? Saw it in a list from SCG. It seems pretty good against BG/x, and is an out to Prime Time. It would just be a 1-of in the board over Dismember/Murderous Cut. I think Dismember is probably the best because it's better in the mirror.
I would agree with this except that I think Batterskull is not good now. It's helpful to have a win-con like this vs. our average match-ups, but not essential. I also think Spellskite is really good. I also think you want another removal spell in the board like Murderous Cut/Dismember/Slaughter Pact or something like that. So that leaves 7 slots. Here's the options as I see it.
Vs. BG/x - Jace AoT, Sower, Olivia
Vs. Tron/Amulet/3-color decks - Blood Moon
Vs. Collective Company/creatures - Anger of the Gods, Pyroclasm, Engineered Explosives
I don't know how much help against these decks we need.
hmm then i guess they just got better hand the. Probably will need to tune my sideboard.
Still thinking if i should use pyroclasm instead of anger and a 2nd piece of Olivia instead of sower.

I don't know how much help against these decks we need.
just got rekt by those 2 - 0 yesterday during a GPT.
Infect should be even easier, as most of their stuff straight up dies to Bolt, not even counting Terminate or Kommand.
