I was playing some modern today (just 3 rounds, ended 2:1). Lost against Affinity.
Nothing that special, game 1 I was able to deal with his only threat using discard. Game 2 I was screwed.
Game 3 though was interesting: He played an Etched Champion I was absolutely not able to deal with.
He attacked me once with a Cranial Plating attached, I was able to play Zealous Persecution, so I took only 5 by killing some of his smaller dudes and making he Champion smaller. Then I drew Disenchant. I was able to kill the Plating. Still that stupid Champion kept attacking me, and my Spirit Tokens just looked silly ^^'
So do you have any idea how to deal with that thing ? I basically had just one option: Persecution into Snappy - Persecution. But that's 6 mana and 2 cards...
I came up with Engineered Explosives and Damnation/Wrath of God/Supreme Verdict.
Are there other possibilities that I missed so far ?
What are you guys / girls playing as affinity-hate in the side ?
Yo, I have been messing around with my list from boredome (I have actually gotten it together but haven't gotten any time to test it because work.) I have swapped around the list substantially, and its looking something like:
Still no Snappy, but I already had a pair of Geist laying around in an essentially abandoned deck, alongside a pair of Sword of Feast and Famine, so I wanted to give it a run. I removed a bit of random stuff to MB more removal, hopefully it'll be enough that i can keep the board clear for Geist to survive, and if I can keep a sword on him things will be even easier. I am not sure this list is even close to good, but I would like some opinions on whether this brew could be viable. (Also, my manabase is pitiful, but thats something that will be fixed with time and effort

Thanks for reading and maybe answering ^^
I was going to say something cute like don't forget sorin, solemn visitor ultimate, but honestly I have really liked the wraths in the board. They may just be a crutch, but I swear this deck needs a two for one removal bad.
It's worth noting that in paper I own a batterskull, which is just great with wrath, but on mtgo I don't want to shell out so much for it, so I use blood baron of vizkopa and it still is fine since I usually curve wrath into baron in those match ups. He is so good btw. Sometimes I question whether he should actually be in instead of batterskull. He just completely shuts down some decks.
I just played this vs. Elves and have no idea how it would win... I don't see sweepers in the sideboard basically ever, either.
Hand disruption, removal on their anthem guys, zealous persecution (maybe), and EE. Those are kinda your only hope in the matchup, seems somewhat annoying if you can't get Collected Company out of their hand or can't kill their key components. Maybe if it gets more popular you can swap out some SB slots for ***? Not super ideal in a deck that uses creatures as the major threats but if you clear the board, and strip the hand, you got time to rebuild.
I just don't see how that deck beats Twin, a key player in most modern metas. Maybe if it starts going golgari for the hand disruption/removal?
Whats funny is with the lilis, tasigurs and souls, the Esper control thread is going to tell him to come right back here with his "midrange" deck
I believe he wants a different control approach, and I actually like it. But the thing is he's trying to get to a pure control spot and we're not, yet on the other thread that's their goal. In the Esper Control thread -and I don't know why- they seem to hate Liliana of the Veil and Lingering Souls. I understand that Lili and countermagic don't really get along all that much, but she could be a hell of a Sideboard card.
My advice:
If you want to hold up mana and cards in had for a pure control list, cut lilis off the deck or move them to the board.
I'd Cut one Sphinx's Revelation.
I wouldn't run more than 2 Snapcasters with that spell suite
Your deck is 62 Cards MB (Maybe -1 Snapcaster -1 Rev?)
You should be running 25/26 lands instead of 24
Supreme Verdict can be relevant
Some number of Think Twice/Anticipate seem reasonable

In Lorwyn's brief evenings, the sun pauses at the horizon long enough for a certain species of violet to bloom with the fragrance of mischief.
A problem I've been having (which is one I think with most aggro decks) is running out of steam. If you are forced on the back foot early against a faster deck (let's say affinity or delver or what have you) and forced to use your removal before dropping your mentor, the deck pretty much fizzles. This could just be bad play on my part, situation depending but it's probably better to take hits and get the engine going. But even still, when your hand is empty it takes so much to come back. I was running 1-2 esper charms as a way to at least get some card draw, but I have since cut them. I'm thinking of going back though. Blue is generally lacking raw card advantage at low cmc, but has anyone had any success with spells to refill your hand? Maybe Jace Beleren or something?

Modern: UWR Breach, UWB Esper control
Legacy: UW RiP/Helm, UR Sneak and Show
It is, but this deck runs a lot of 1 for 1 removal, mitigated by snaps. I'm fully admitting that I'm making poor decisions with moves to make and what not, so that's something I need to work on. But I just feel like some way of getting caught back up would be great. It especially hurts when you have to mulligan.

What's going on guys I am really enjoying the outcomes of this deck been play testing with it alot to get ready for a local IQ. Here is my list I could really use some help with Tron my deck usually switches out creatures like ojutai for baneslayer angel or tasigur it all depends on how I am feeling honestly, could use some criticisms thanks. After reading this thread I am defintely going to pick up some tectonic edges and have been wanting to test with a cavern of souls just haven't had time to grab one.
Hello guys, Just dropping in from the BW tokens thread, finally picked up my playset of mentors so I'm ready to have them put in some work. Honestly don't know if they will be better in a pure tokens strategy or here where they generate advantage through excessive tempo. I love playing blue so nows as good a time as any to splash. Hopefully you'll see me around more often.
As of right now I'm missing 3 Creeping Tar Pits, 1 Slaughter Pact, the Spell Snares, Tasigurs, and murderous cuts. So I'm replacing all of that with mediocre placeholders like Smother, mana leak, geist, and dismember. Until I actually pick up the replacements, working with what I got.
Playtested with a hyper Aggresive version of BW tokens and got stomped. Never did any damage, his tokens were better than mine. Early aggression kept me on thr backfoot the entire game. Sideboard options for that deck?

EE, Disenchant (maybe). But the spellsnares are very relevant in this matchup and I see that you don't currently have them. Tasigur also really useful in this matchup, although you do have to rely on disrupting their anthem effects in some way.
@ABC123x
Tron is just going to be a rough matchup. It's true for any midrange thoughtseize deck, our more aggressive starts nonwithstanding. Board for hand discard, hope they stymie themselves or you get an early kill and they lack any meaningful interaction. I could maybe see going Ghost Quarter (Tec Edge is less relevant here IMO since the magic number is often 3). But that's a lot of slots for a matchup that you just have to hope you get lucky in. I'd scratch it off as a "loss unless lucky" and move on.

Zealous Persecution is my go-to answer. I currently run a single one main and one in the side. It is crushing vs a lot of decks atm.
