the sylvan package has proven to be incredibly useful all ready, after only playing against bw tokens, burn and mono U tron. Having tutorable evasion/graveyard hate/Land Destruction is my super secret tech.
generally speaking, I feel like in situations where necropede may have been better that sylvan scrying I was still just fine searching up another inkmoth nexus and sitting back on it
or getting a sejiri steppe and(in the case of burn) setting an attacker to pro red for the kill, usually with another protection spell as backup.
spellskite is a real problem and I think at least 2 main dismember is right, but maybe a split if dismember/gut shot could be better. That depends on whether the meta
is heavily delver/cruise or if it shifts to more combo like ascendancy or midrangey stuff like pod.
I will be attending the next available modern event I can get to, and I will put the report here afterwords.
Im actually looking at Tom Ross builds for U/G versions of Infect. I came up witht his, and I think it has some good things going for it.
There is 12 protection cards, which means we want to take it easy against some decks which are removal heavy. Attack small, and have enough to protect against burn or destruction.
I think 4 of Noble Hierarch need to be there, and you should replace distortion strike with them since you are playing Blighted Agent. Become Immense is a nice inclusion but in my opinion the deck only can accommodate a single copy, unless you are playing Gitaxian Probe.
Worried more about removal. Local meta runs high on u/b, or just burn in general. So for those matchups I need as much protection as I can get. Distortion strike allows me to get poison through without the need or trample as well.
Noble Hierarch is good, just pricy. And Id like to see how I do without the extra buff .At worst she is a +1/+1 per turn, unless she eats removal as well.
Shuffled up my super old list from January-February. No Wild Defiance or Virdian Corrupter. I was originally going to make it UG and have Ichorclaw Myr, but I just never got around to it and figured I would just shuffle up the old list to see how it goes at a small tournament.
0-2 RW Lockdown
2-1 UWR Control
2-1 Rhinos on a Boat (Willy Edel's Junk splash Blue deck)
Beat 2 real decks and lost to the random tier 3 deck because I mulled to 5 and then game 2 he Chalice of the Void + Blood Moon me. Not too worried about that loss, but in testing Infect has been pretty solid so I might take it to an upcoming PPTQ or GPT. Attending a GP in 3 months so I'm going back and forth on whether I want to play it in a Delver + Burn meta.
This was the old list I played. It needs some much needed updates soon.
Tempted to try the tutorable lands package in the SB with Sylvan Scrying MD. :)) Tormods Crypts can come out since Storm and Goryo's Vengeance decka have been dead lately; yayy space for Gut Shots for testing! :))
Okay, I have no idea how to use Ghost Quarter/Tectonic Edge against Scapeshift. Help? :))
Against Scapeshift, you can Tectonic Edge a non-basic mountain (ie. Stomping Ground or Steam Vents) to slow them down. Also if they attempt to go off with 7 lands on the board by fetching 6 mountains and a Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle, while all the Valakut triggers are on the stack, you can destroy one of their non-basic mountains, then when all the triggers try to resolve there are no longer 5 other mountains on the board. This results in only 1 trigger successfully resolving, the trigger from the mountain that you destroyed, because it still sees 5 other mountains. Of course a good Scapeshift player will be well aware of that and won't go off until 8 land. So mainly you just kill a non-basic mountain once they get to 4 land to slow them down.
Ghost Quarter doesn't work for Scapeshift because they just search out a basic mountain, but it is great against Tron because you can kill the Urza lands before they reach Tron. Also, one thing to be aware of in the Mono U Tron match-up is you can stop the Academy Ruins / Mindslaver combo with either Ghost Quarter or Tectonic Edge.
I was never that worried about RG Tron, so I didn't run Ghost Quarter, but Mono U Tron and Scapeshift gave me a few issues, so I started running a single Tectonic Edge in the side as an option to find with Sylvan Scrying. It is probably good against Celestial Colonnade in UWR Control too, but I have never actually tried that out.
Yes, it's normal. Just laugh it off. He thinks you're a loser and yet he lost to you, so what does that make him? lol
Getting salty on Cockatrice is stupid because there are no prizes on the line and you can just start a new game with someone else in less than a minute anyway.
She is an expensive removal/permission target. So I think her value is slightly overrated. As for ranger's guile. It's more for extra protection from a burn happy meta.
Play more creatures (i.e. Ichorclaw Myr). You should have at least 12.
Cut the Distortion Strikes for them. It does very little since Blighted Agent is already unblockable, Inkmoth Nexus has flying and Ichorclaw Myr discourages blocking.
Removal is very taxed when playing against infect so using removal on a Hierach adds a level of decision that they'll have to go through and introduce misplay points. It also helps cast every one of your spells and also adds damage.
The heavy burn probably should have been stated in the post to help us discuss your list
Fair enough. And yes, I meant she is expensive to purchase. 200$ for 4 cards. I have other protection cards in the deck that are meant to stave-off removal I don't need 200$ worth of more removal fodder lol
Her exalted is good, though. I'll see how I do without her. If I need the extra oomph, I may consider her.
For my MonoGreen Infect list I swapped the 2 Spellskites into the MD, and made space for Gut Shots in the SB since UR/w Delve Cruise decks are truly an issue. I think I'll try the 1-of Tectonic Edge too since I haven't won against Scapeshift yet. Sylvan Scrying build again; SB looks like this:
A friend didn´t have cards to play the modern mocs and we built an infect list togheter, he finished a respectable 5-2 He also used the same list to classify with a nice 5-1
Sadly the next day i tried it on dailies myself and went 0-4 in two dailies
Feed the clain is a tech he brought to beat burn, but he was lucky enough to face zero on the mocs.
On the dailies i faced 2 burns, and i lost aginst both. Eidolon is just GG. That was teh reason i stopped playing infect in first place.
Only thing I can really recommend is making room for at least 3 nature's claim and 2 spellkite. I went against a burn deck at FNM and I pulled out a win with a spellkite and a few nature's clam.
Someone told me about another card (not specifically in this deck, though): Vampiric Link
The idea is, if you put this on the red Eidolon, it deals no damage to you, while it slowly kills the Burn player because they take damage from their spells too. That is, if they don't kill their own Eidolon first and 2-for-1 themselves. You're in a better position to win regardless.
I would play Disfigure simply because it's less dead against other decks, but if you want to really beat Eidolon, Vampiric Link is there.

Still thinking if 1 Sejiri Steppe in the SB is good to include in my list with Sylvan Scryings. Hmmm...
