I'd be stoked if it was Mindshrieker! That card is legit awesome.

Kanister did not make Top 8, but Luis Salvatto made it with Lantern! The other Top 8 decks are 2x Humans, Traverse Shadow, Abzan, Mardu Pyromancer, an Izzet midrange deck, and Hollow One Aggro.

Luis Salvatto had a truly masterful performance to get into top 8 especially his last match. In order to guarantee top 8 he had to play against his teammate from Brazil who was on 5 color humans and neither were in the position to ID so they had to play it out. Game 1 with the board locked down, Luis was still facing death the next turn from Kessig Malcontents. He used whir to go get Orb which would have given him the complete lock, only to find he hadn't placed it back in his maindeck from his sideboarding of his last match. He had mistakenly left in a second cage, and after deliberation was given a game loss. So after the agony of losing game 1 that he certainly would have won while playing for top 8 of a pro tour, he proceeded to play flawlessly for the next 2 games and basically 3-0d to guarantee a top 8 seat. Not only that but his previous match he defeated grixis control piloted by Cory Burkhart (basically the god of grixis control) with a deck that had 4 MB K command. Truly enjoyable to watch.
I was much more impressed that he beat Grixis Control than 5c Humans. Especially a Grixis list in the hands of someone who is considered an expert at piloting the deck. Humans is typically a very good matchup, whereas Grixis Control is abysmal. I wish I could have seen more of the Grixis matchup, to see what lines were used. The only part I did see was when Corey Thought Scour'd him to draw a Snapcaster, which allowed him to draw into an Inquisition of Kozilek which I figured would allow him to discard the Snapcaster. There was a Cryptic Command on top when they cut away, if I recall correctly.
ProTour mentioned something about Sam Black's roommate released a 35 page write up of Lantern Control. Anyone have a link to this? I'm kinda interested in what he has to say.

Ancient stirrings sets a pretty unfair double standard.... Getting to look at 5 cards is 40% more powerful than the blue cantrips that let you look at 3 cards that are "too powerful" for modern.

Yes but ancient stirrings is not avaliable to use in any ole deck that is running green, unlike all the blue cantrips that were banned. You have to use stirrings in very specific decks, and the decks that use it currently are not considered opressive to the format.

Ponder lets you look at 4 cards and has no restrictions. Or are we going to ban Commune with Dinosaurs too?

twitch chat was hilarious. you would think that Lantern is the next eldrazi winter. All the complaining about slow games and Luis never even came close to draawing or playing too slowly. Masterful performance. Huge influx of players going to try to play Lantern, realize it's the hardest deck to pilot in modern, lose a bunch of matches and then give it up.
I know, I loved his motions, moving cards straight from the library to the battlefield. I'm going to try to change my game a lot based on that.

On account of the 7 active reports in this thread right now, I'm just going to say that if you want to talk about bans please take it to the State of Modern thread.
Consider this a warning to the entire thread, and if you continue to break the rules you will be infracted and locked out of this site harder than Luis locked out Gerry T in the finals.
So anyone still convinced that the Whir list isn't better than the Golgari List?
